Keeping your tools, bikes, or camping gear safe from the elements and theft is what this cover does best. The RetraxPRO XR uses 1" thick aluminum slats that are impact and weather resistant, giving it a 500-lb evenly distributed weight capacity. The matte black finish resists scratches and fading, and the locking handle secures the cover anywhere along the rails for flexible cargo protection. When used with a locked tailgate, your gear stays completely out of sight and protected from prying hands and harsh weather.
Opening and closing the cover is simple thanks to sealed ball-bearing rollers that glide along the side rails. There are no springs, straps, snaps, or Velcro to mess with, and the system never needs lubrication. The handle pops up when you need to move the cover and locks flat when closed, keeping dirt and water out of the mechanism. The spiral track inside the canister keeps the slats separated as they retract, preventing rubbing and wear over time.
Built-in T-slots along the side rails let you mount most T-slot-compatible ladder racks or roof rack crossbars, so you can carry bikes, kayaks, or cargo boxes above your bed while still using the cover below. It works with brands like Thule, Yakima, and Rhino-Rack. The design keeps the cover’s retracting action smooth and unobstructed even with racks installed, giving you more ways to haul without removing the tonneau.
Rain, snow, and dust stay out thanks to weather stripping and foam seals on all sides. The cover overlaps the top of the tailgate for extra protection and drains water through two included tubes routed through the bed floor. The low-profile rails sit just 1" above the bed for a clean, streamlined look that still clears most fifth-wheel setups. The canister’s angled bottom saves space so you can slide longer gear underneath.
The RetraxPRO XR arrives preassembled in its canister, and the rails clamp directly onto the bed rails—no drilling needed. Once clamped down and the drain tubes are routed, the cover is ready to go. Thanks for taking the time for such a detailed review RAMDaddy! I would say you definitely got your moneys worth on your last one with the 10 years of use! And valid points on the new cover, it does stink that the canister takes up so much room, but it is still a really nice cover. I hope you get 10 years plus out of this new one =)

Had this on my truck for over a year, outside in the elements every day and it still looks brand new. The finish is tough and durable. It rolls open and closed with ease and the locking mechanism is free and smooth. Couldnt be happier with it.
