Bias Tires vs. Radial Tires

Bias vs. radial tire graphic

Bias ply tires are designed for off-road or agricultural applications. They are built with thick, durable nylon cords that are positioned at a 30- to 45-degree angle to the direction of travel. The layers alternate in a crisscross pattern, making the sidewalls stiffer so that the entire tire is able to flex easily. As a result, the tire provides a smooth ride and improved handling when trailering on uneven surfaces.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

A good alternative to 20.5 x 8-10 tires

Tires came faster than expected, and full of air, so I didn't have

  • Why Do Trailer Tires Need to Be Inflated to Maximum Cold Pressure
Yes, you always want to keep your trailer tires like # AM3H470 inflated to the maximum COLD pressure indicated on their side wall. As you start your travel day the tires' pressure will naturally increase due to the higher temperature caused by friction, but this is not anything you need to compensate for. The key is to start your travel day with the cold tires inflated to their maximum pressure which is the only way you can get their full weight carrying capacity. Tire # AM3H470 will handle...

  • Recommended Tire and Wheel Combo To Replace 20.5x8.0-10 Tires On Jayco Pop Up Camper
The 20.5x8.0-10 tire that you referenced on your pop camper is the same size as the 205/65-10 tires we carry. The only options available for the 205/65-10 wheel and tire combos are the Kenda options that you were looking at. I recommend the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" Galvanized Wheel part # AM3H470 with 4 on 4 bolt pattern. They are load range E so their maximum load capacity is 1,650 lbs at 90 psi compared to the lower capacities of the other load range options. They are...

  • Tire and Wheel Combination Size 205/65-10 with 4 on 4 Bolt Pattern
You are correct that your 20.5 x 8.0 x 10 sized tires are the same as 205/65-10 sized tires. With a 4 on 4 bolt pattern we have tire and wheel combinations that I've linked for you. The highest weight capacity of our selection there is # AM3H460 and # AM3H470. They're the same tire on a different wheel. One being a white powder coat and the other is galvanized. They have a maximum capacity of 1,650 pounds at 90 psi per wheel.

  • Available Trailer Tire Sizes for 4-on-4 Wheels
In the 4-on-4 wheel bolt pattern we offer trailer wheels/tires from 8-inch up to 14-inch diameter, but no 15s. The available products in this bolt pattern are shown on the linked page. The highest weight capacity wheel/tire in this 4-on-4 pattern is a Load Range E tire in size 205/65-10, such as # AM3H460 (white) and # AM3H470 (galvanized). Both can handle up to 1,650-lbs maximum load at their 90-psi pressure. These tires have an overall diameter of 20-1/2-inches when fully inflated. You...

  • Recommended Tire/Wheel Combos For A Homemade Forklift
The closest size to 19-inches we have for a tire and wheel combo are 205/65-10. You would need a Load Range E tire for the weight you said you need to have. I have attached a link to the tire/wheel combos we offer that have those features. The Load Range E tires have a load rating of 1,650-lbs at 90 psi. For a wheel that has a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern I recommend part # AM3H490. This is a 10-ply bias ply tire. The outer diameter of this when inflated is 20.4 inches. For a 4 on 4 bolt...

  • Replacement 10 Inch Wheel and Tire for Pontoon Boat Trailer
We do have a solution for you but you are going to need to know your wheel's bolt pattern in order to get the correct wheel. Since you mentioned you had a 20.5x8.0-10 tire (which is the same size as a 205/65-10 trailer tire) we know you have a 10" diameter wheel and the options for a wheel and tire combination in that size will have either a 4 on 4" bolt pattern or the more common 5 on 4-1/2"; if you do not know your bolt pattern please take a look at the help article I've added which...

  • Replacement Trailer Wheel and Tire with Size 20.5x8.0-10
The Kenda wheel and tire part # AM3H460 is the modern tire size equivalent of what you have now mounted on a 4 lug wheel so it would work great. The wheel is white so if you prefer a metal wheel the part # AM3H470 would work as well.

Typically for wheels of this size you will have either 4 on 4 wheels, or 5 on 4-1/2 wheels. If you have 4 on 4 wheels, the Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" Galvanized Wheel - 4 on 4 - Load Range E, part # AM3H470, is my recommended wheel and tire combination. • Solution for Replacement Wheels and Tires on Pontoon Boat Trailer With Split Rims
Since those are split rims you would need tires with tubes for the wheels. Split rims have been discontinued since they are dangerous and prone to failure, so I recommend replacing the wheels as well. There is nothing that comes up for 680z9 tires, perhaps they are 6.90/6.00-9. I would double check the size. Either way it seems as though it has 9" wheels. I recommend moving to 10" wheels and tires if possible. The Kenda 205/65-10 Bias Trailer Tire with 10" Galvanized Wheel # AM3H470 would...

  • Replacement Tires Needed for a 3,250 lb Gross Weight Pontoon Boat Trailer
I did some checking and the 6.90x9 trailer tire and wheel are only available in load range C. It is possible that you could go up to a load range E tire, good for 1,650 lbs each at 90 psi which would be more in line with your gross trailer weight. You would need to determine if there is room for the extra width, 8.4 inches as compared to 6.9 inches and height, 20.4 inches as compared to 20 inches. You will also need to match the bolt pattern for the axle and change the wheel. You could...

  • Maximum Capacity 205/65-10 Trailer Tire & Wheel For Boat Trailer
All you need for the right 205/65-10 trailer tire and wheel is one that is rated either at or past the GVWR of your trailer; anything rated higher than that is paying more for capacity you aren't using. While you didn't mention the GVWR, the highest rated 205/65-10 tire and wheel is the 1,650 lbs you mentioned (there isn't anything smaller with a higher rating), and four of those are 6,600 lbs, so as long as your trailer's GVWR is less than that, go with a tire and wheel from Kenda, with...

The modern replacement tire for your 20.5x8x10 tires are 205/65-10 Bias tires which are the same size as your current tires. To answer your question about radial tires vs bias tires, radial tires do dissipate heat more efficiently which is why they are recommended for highway use, however we do not carry a ST145 R12 radial tire that has a highway speed rating. They are rated for 65 MPH so they will not provide the highway speeds you are looking for. They are only 1" larger in diameter...

If you have a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern then you can use the combo # AM3H480, but for the uncommon 5 on 5-1/2" bolt pattern use part # AM3H454.
