Features to know about

Keep Control on Icy or Snow-Packed Roads: Polyolefin Fabric Grips Where Rubber Slips

These ISSE Classic Snow Socks use a tough polyolefin fabric that clings to snow and ice, creating dry friction that restores traction when the pavement disappears under a slick white layer. Instead of digging in like metal chains, the material wicks away the thin layer of water that causes tires to slide so you stay in control on steep, snow-packed roads. Drivers mention cruising up icy grades with confidence once these are on.

Stay Comfortable on Winter Drives: Smooth, Quiet, and Class S Compatible

Unlike metal links that rattle and vibrate, these snow socks run smooth and quiet so you can focus on the road. The low-profile construction meets SAE Class S clearance requirements, making them ideal when space around the tire is tight. You still get dependable traction without the harsh ride or wheel-well contact that comes with bulkier setups.

Lightweight and Easy to Handle: Stretch Fabric Centers Itself as You Drive

When the snow starts falling you don’t want to wrestle cold metal—these lightweight, stretchable socks slip over the tire easily and center themselves as you move. Elastic bands help keep them snug so they stay in place. The soft fabric won’t scratch rims, and when you’re done they fold small enough to stash in a corner of the trunk.

Built for Repeat Use: Durable, Washable Construction That Lasts

Each pair is made from thick, tightly woven polyolefin that stands up to heavy use on snow or ice without tearing. They’re machine-washable, so you can clean and reuse them all season. A maximum speed rating of 30 mph keeps the fabric working at its best, meeting Department of Transportation requirements in all states. Gloves and a tote bag are included for easy storage after every trip.

Confirming Your Fit

If you know your tire size, you may think you won't need to test fit your new chains. But there are a lot of variables that can affect whether chains will fit your specific tires, including your tire type, the amount of air pressure in the tire, the amount of tread wear, and the tire manufacturer.

We recommend that you order chains as early in the season as possible to give yourself plenty of time to test fit the chains and reorder if needed. This way, you won't be stuck out in the cold later with snow chains that don't fit.

You can test fit these chains in your garage or driveway, but you'll want to wait until there's snow on the ground to actually drive with them. Likewise, if you're out in the snow and come across bare pavement, you'll want to pull over and remove the chains. These chains can cause damage to the bare pavement, your garage floor, or your vehicle if they break from the wear of riding on a harsh surface.

by:

Needed snow traction in a hurry, and etrailer came through for us.

by:

Five star is for the service I received and the fact that the product arrived in a timely manner and fit as advertised. I tried them on the car and they were a piece of cake to install.

by:

Shipping arrived exactly when predicted.

by:

I have not used the product yet, but they look exactly as represented on the website. Small enough to keep in the trunk storage compartment through the winter. Etrailer had them shipped and delivered within 3 days. Always great service!

by:

I ordered these just to have on hand as we prepare for a winter trip to the southwest. I can't really testify as to how they work because I have yet to use them but etrailer is once again a pleasure to work with.

by:

This review is for the basic ordering of the product. We haven't needed to use the snow socks yet so can't comment on the product. We were able to order and receive the items with ease and in a timely fashion. We received what we ordered. YAY

by:

First, these are for a trip in January, so I have not used them yet, but what I can say at this point is that I'm very happy to have found something that will work on my Forester which has no clearance for chains or most cables. The Forester is great for snow, but nothing is great on black ice, so these will provide some added safety if needed. Etrailer's excellent online guidance led me to these. Thank you.

by:

While I have not yet utilized the tire socks, the biggest reason to have them is simply to be compliant with the law where chains must be carried. For that purpose the product is perfect! Super light weight and far less of a hassle than dealing with steel cables or chains.

by:

Wow. I was hoping these would work as reviewed and they did! Living on a hill, these socks saved me from sliding all the way home. My tires lost traction on a snowy hill; I pulled over and relatively quickly (and easily!) slipped the snow covers over my tires. Once on, I completed my drive down the snow covered road in control. My husband's going to get a pair (he was impressed how well they worked) and I plan to get these for my adult children. Well worth the cost and peace of mind knowing I have these in my car.

by:

I would like to say great but I have not needed them. Ran into snow several times last yr but my XC90 just plowed thru without a problem. I have a friend who used them last yr - took about 5 min to put them on and we had good traction in icy hardpack. I still keep them in the car just in case. Would not be without them.

by:

I haven't had a chance to use the product, but I did test the fit and they certainly install easy enough. I occasionally have to drive from the coast over the mountains to into the valley and during the winter we are required by law to carry chains or something similar on 2-wheel drive vehicles...and the storms can come seemingly out of nowhere in the high elevations...so now I am prepared. The construction of these is very good.

Not to mention, the customer service from etrailer was very good. Initially there was a slight problem with the delivery date, but they managed to rectify that without any problems. Thank you.

by:

Does not fit over the tire even though our tire size is listed.

by:

Watch the sizing folks. The web site said to get size 74 for our 225/60/18 tires but when they arrived, the size chart on the package said size 70 was needed. I hope this was fixed on the web site. etrailer was very good about understanding the problem and returning the original package, sending me a pre-paid return label for the UPS guy. I ordered the new ones after they received the originals and credited my account. Easily a five star rating if it were not for the step of returning and reordering.

We bought tire socks for our Subaru because the owners manual says NOT to use chains. But, when snowing in the mountains of Oregon, chains are sometimes required. We'll probably be fine without, being all wheel drive, but the police don't think so. There are hefty fines for driving without at least having chains in your possession.

by:

Terrible decision to get these. They were supposed to fit on my tires (based on the specs). When I needed them in a bad snowstorm, I could not go more than 20 MPH. They would slide off one side or the other. I was blocking traffic trying to get them to stay on. Had to nurse the car without these or chains to an auto shop and buy a set of cables that fit. Had to go over the I-80 Donner Summit from Truckee and would not have made it with these "snow socks". I would be happy to sell these once used socks for half of what I paid for them.

by:

Living in Arizona we don't have a lot of use for these when we do need them it is critical that they can go on easily and work. This is one of the few places I could send my tire size and have the unit match pacifically for my tires which gives me peace of mind knowing that when I do have to use them they will fit.

by:

Really great price and fast delivery.

by:

I live in Dallas, TX so we don’t get snow but ice and sleet and available a couple times a year. I put these on my Subaru Outback and was able to drive around the local neighborhood streets that were iced over. Stopping went well a and starting did not have any wheel spin.

by:

These things are great. So easy to put on & take off, gave me great traction going up & down steep snowy hill with small car & ordinary tires.

by:

Took over a year for a sufficiently snowy day to come, but these tire socks were quite straightforward to install. Didn't notice excessive slipping around while driving.

by:

They work good, this is my second set. If they rip can they be repaired?

No, I am sorry as if they rip then they would need to be replaced. You will want to make sure that they are not used on bare roads. Only use snow socks on snowy or icy surfaces.

by:

Honestly I can’t believe how well these work. I was able to cruse up steep snow packed roads with ease.

by:

Have not used them often but, they do the job. Not used them in deep snow either.
So far no complaints and they do not require lots storage area. My mini is short on space.

by:

Snow socks arrived in great condition. Actually hoping I don't have to use them, but nice to know I've got them in the event of a "snow or ice weather event"! Great service, product, and shipping.

by:

Purchased for the safety of traveling through mountains out west. Have to have it in slippery conditions or state patrol won’t let you proceed. Light to pack, easy stowage, relatively easy to install, but unlike chains is tough fabric. Unsure how effective they work as we did not have need to use. More of insurance to have than not.

by:

Not impressed with this product at all. If you are driving on snow, meaning absolutely no pavement or rough surface, they may be useful... but a short distance after the chain requirement point mine were shredded and all but useless.

Im not sure what type of road surface you were driving on when your snow socks shredded, but they arent meant for use on bare pavement, only on snow or ice.

  • Tire Traction Device for 2020 Subaru Impreza With 205/55-16 Tires
Spring chains are really just another name for a traction device that does not actually use metal chains, although nobody actually calls them spring chains so Subaru's designation in the owners manual for these devices is somewhat odd. Nonetheless, it can be the law in some areas to have some type of traction device, so if that the case for you there are a couple of options I recommend for your 2020 Subaru Impreza, assuming you have the standard 205/55-16 tires. The first option are...

However with that being said, we certainly understand certain states and conditions require the use of them therefore the choice will be ultimately up to you. It looks from my research like you have 205/55R16 or 205/50R17 size tires on your 2012 Subaru Impreza WRX hatchback. The only alternative to chains I can recommend for your vehicle is the Titan Chain ISSE Hybrid Snow Socks - Size 62 - 1 Pair, # TCH62. Carbon steel rivets on fabric provide extra grip compared to standard snow socks....

Therefore, this leaves you with two options which are snow socks or snow cables. The ISSE Hybrid Snow Socks part # TCH62 will be a confirmed fit as long as you have the standard 225/40-18 tires.
