Spring chains are really just another name for a traction device that does not actually use metal chains, although nobody actually calls them spring chains so Subaru's designation in the owners manual for these devices is somewhat odd.

Nonetheless, it can be the law in some areas to have some type of traction device, so if that the case for you there are a couple of options I recommend for your 2020 Subaru Impreza, assuming you have the standard 205/55-16 tires.

The first option are cables, the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains # PW1034.

Despite the name, these aren't chains at all, and have a Class S designation for wheel well clearance so they fit vehicles with limited wheel well space. With these I recommend tensioner in order to get the best fit, the Glacier Multi-Arm Rubber Adjusters # PW105.

The other option are snow socks, the ISSE Hybrid Snow Socks # TCH62.

Snow socks, which work by creating friction between your tire and the snow, are great because they are simple to use and fit snugly around your tire, without anything protruding that might come into contact with a wheel well. I have added links below to video reviews for you to check out as well of both the cables and the snow socks.
