If you walk away your RV or off-grid system, you lose visibility into battery and charging performance. This unit uses built-in 4G LTE-M to send data to Victron VRM without local internet, so you can check status and alerts from anywhere.

Highlights

  • Remote Monitoring Without Local Internet: Built-in 4G LTE-M sends system data to VRM from off-grid sites.
  • Global Connectivity With Roaming Support: LTE-M with handover maintains data in moving or remote setups.
  • Central Hub for Multiple Devices: Connects 2 VE.Direct and up to 10 Victron Smart devices via Bluetooth.
  • Access to Status, History, and Alerts: VRM portal shows real-time data and logged performance remotely.
  • Integrated Relay and Digital Inputs: 2 inputs and 1 relay support monitoring and basic control tasks.
  • Low Power Draw Across System Voltages: Operates from 8V to 70V DC with reduced current at higher voltages.

Features to know about

Remote Visibility Without Local Internet

Off-grid systems are hard to keep tabs on once you leave the site, especially when there's no WiFi or wired network to lean on. This unit solves that with built-in 4G LTE-M connectivity and integration with the Victron Remote Management portal, so status, history, reports, and alarms are available remotely instead of staying stuck at the install location. It uses low power Internet of Things communication over existing 4G networks, with roaming and handover support for use in moving vehicles. You can check system performance and catch changes early without driving back just to see what's going on.

One Hub for Wired and Smart Device Monitoring

Remote monitoring gets messy fast when some devices are wired and others rely on Bluetooth. The GlobalLink 520 pulls both into one place with connection for up to 2 wired VE.Direct devices and support for connecting up to 10 Victron Smart devices via BLE. That combination matters when you want one remote view instead of piecing data together from separate connections and apps. In real use, you get a cleaner picture of what the system is doing over time without building out a more complicated monitoring setup.

Background Monitoring With Alerts and History

Manual spot checks don't tell you much about what happened between visits, and that's where small problems turn into expensive ones. Here, system monitoring and remote management feed data into VRM with access to status, history, reports, and alarms, so you're not limited to whatever the system looks like when you happen to be standing next to it. Automatic data availability in VRM keeps the information flowing in the background instead of depending on manual collection. The payoff is straightforward: you can spot trends, notice abnormal behavior sooner, and react before downtime sneaks up on you.

Extra Inputs for Basic Site Awareness and Control

Some installs need more than raw system data, especially when you want one box to watch a few extra signals at the same time. This unit adds 2 digital inputs that also function as pulse counters, 1 x NO/NC relay, and RuuviTag sensor compatibility for temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure monitoring via BLE. It also supports relay output for monitoring and control applications, giving you another layer of visibility beyond the main connected devices. In the field, that gives you a way to keep an eye on surrounding conditions and simple input or relay events from the same remote platform.

Video Transcript for Review of Victron Smart RV - GlobalLink 520 Battery Monitoring System Controller - VN95ZR

Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this Victron GlobalLink 520 Battery Monitoring System and Controller. Now, this is gonna give you a way to keep an eye on your Victron power system from anywhere, even if there's no Wi-Fi around. Think of this as a small cellular modem made specifically for your Victron gear. This is going to connect your system to Victron's VRM online portal using 4G, LTE-M, so you can check battery levels, solar performance, and system alerts, all from your phone or computer. Now, what's nice about this is this is very low maintenance.

This is going to come with a built in SIM card. There's no monthly data fees for the first five years, which is great, and you're not going to need to set up local internet or networking. This is going to connect directly to Victron devices using the VE.Direct port, like the battery monitors and MPPT charge controllers. And this can also pick up data from nearby Victron smart devices over Bluetooth. So, that makes this ideal if you're running the smaller or mid-sized system and you just want visibility without the complexity.

People typically use this for off-grid solar systems, RVs, vans, or mobile setups, marine applications, and remote sites where Wi-Fi just isn't practical. Let me give you some measurements here. Looking at the overall width, we're right at 4 7/8 inches end to end. Height, right at about 2 5/8 inches. And the depth or thickness, right at about 7/8 of an inch thick.

(measuring device clattering) So it includes everything that you see here. But if you happen to have any other questions, whether it's about this or anything else that we have here at etrailer, don't hesitate to reach out. We wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you need. Well, again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
