You're checking battery levels in an RV but don't want another display. This IP65-rated monitor uses a 99.6% accurate shunt and the VictronConnect app to show state of charge and usage, so you get precise data without adding a screen.
When a basic voltage gauge stops telling you enough, adding a separate screen usually means more panel space, more wiring, and more clutter. The SmartShunt skips the onboard display and pushes real-time battery performance data through the VictronConnect app instead. You can check state of charge, voltage, current, amp hours, number of charge cycles, and time remaining, all from the same monitor. In a tight install or a clean electrical bay, you get detailed battery information without cutting in another panel.
Trying to judge battery condition from voltage by itself can leave you guessing, especially once your system starts seeing regular loads and charging cycles. This monitor uses 99.6 percent accurate shunt measurement technology, so it tracks actual battery usage and performance instead of giving you a rough snapshot. The unit is rated at 1,000 amps with a 50 mV voltage drop, and it supports battery capacities from 1 to 9,999 Ah. You end up with battery data you can actually use when you're checking consumption, watching charge recovery, or figuring out how much runtime is left.
A lot of battery monitor upgrades get dragged out by extra hardware, added cable runs, and trying to find somewhere to mount a display. This setup trims that back with Bluetooth monitoring and configuration through the app, plus installation flexibility for new or existing systems. It also supports easy retrofitting with minimal wiring and reduced cable clutter. When you're updating an existing battery setup, you can add detailed monitoring without turning the job into a full dashboard rework.
Some monitors only give you local readings, which becomes a problem once you want battery data feeding into the rest of the system. The SmartShunt includes VE.Smart Networking over Bluetooth for wireless data sharing and a VE.Direct port for connection to a GX device (sold separately) and VRM access. It can transmit battery voltage, current, and temperature to connected chargers, and the auxiliary connection can be configured for second battery monitoring, midpoint monitoring, or temperature sensing. As the system grows, the battery monitor keeps feeding useful data instead of getting boxed into a standalone role.

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer. Let's take a quick look at this Victron SmartShunt Battery Monitor. Now, this is a smart shunt battery monitor. Think of it as kind of like the brain that tells you exactly what your battery system is up to without needing a screen mounted to the wall. So, instead of having a physical display, this is going to use Bluetooth to send all of the data straight to your phone or tablet through Victron's VictronConnect app.
So, from there, you're gonna be able to see things like your battery voltage, your current draw, your state of charge, and how much runtime you have left. Now, most people actually prefer this setup because it's cleaner, it's cheaper, and it's easier to install. And the shunt itself is rated for up to 1,000 amps, so it is built for high current systems. So, this is gonna be perfect for RVs, vans, boats, or off-grid solar setups. It uses a 50-millivolt shunt, which is the industry standard for accurate current measurements.
And one nice bonus is that this is IP65-rated, meaning that it's sealed against dust and water spray. So, that's gonna make this a great option for marine environments or anywhere moisture might be an issue. And this is also going to play well with other Victron gear. You're gonna be able to connect it to a Victron GX device using the VE.Direct port if you want system-wide monitoring, and it has auxiliary input. So, you're gonna be able to optionally track a second battery midpoint voltage or temperature.
Instructions are going to be included with this, so you're going to get exactly what you see here. And let me go ahead and give you some measurements here just so you have a good idea of the size. This might be kind of tricky, but looking at the overall length here, at the longest point, we're sitting pretty close to 6-5/8 inches long. The width might be the tricky measurement here. I'm attempting to measure basically from front to back here, and that's including the back of these terminals.
So, let's see how well we can do here. That's not in frame. We move that down just a little bit more. So, I'm gonna say we're sitting right at about, I'm gonna say about two, 2-5/8 inches wide or so. You can see that on the ruler there. And then the height, right at about 2-3/4 inches tall. So, hopefully, those measurements were somewhat easy to see, understandable, and helpful. But if you happen to have any other questions, whether it's about this SmartShunt Battery monitor or anything else that we have here at etrailer, don't hesitate to reach out because we do wanna make sure that you're getting exactly what you need. Well, again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
