An example of sag on a vehicle's rear axle under a heavy load

Whether you're hauling heavy loads in your bed or cargo area or you're towing a trailer, you will often see the rear of your vehicle sag while the front end rises. In these cases, the rear axle is handling not only the weight of the cargo, but also more of the vehicle's weight. Because less weight is on the front axle, the front tires are making less contact with the road. Overall handling - traction, steering, and braking - is negatively affected. But the resistance from Timbren's Suspension Enhancement System works with your factory suspension to keep your vehicle level and improve your driving experience.

Diagram of the Timbren spring installed

The Timbren system comes with custom-fit brackets that are bolted onto each frame rail above the rear axle. Hollow rubber springs are bolted to the bottom of the bracket and hang down to where the bottom of the spring sits, 1" above the axle. The inch of clearance allows the existing factory suspension to operate normally under light loads and standard terrain, ensuring the smooth, comfortable ride that you are used to.

Animation of a standard Timbren rubber spring

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Systems are designed to work progressively. When the hollow rubber springs are compressed, the convoluted design causes them to quickly collapse along the folds. Once the folds are compacted, the stacked barrel shape increases resistance, stiffening the suspension and keeping your vehicle level.

Timbren suspension system works to prevent body roll

Each hollow rubber spring works independently to support the driver's side or passenger's side of your vehicle. This is helpful when you swerve or make sharp turns. Each spring is activated when it is needed, so body roll is greatly reduced. The independent action also works well when you are hauling off-center loads.

An example of a trailers swaying

Because the vehicle handles better with the springs, less turbulence will be passed along to the trailer, and this helps to keep the trailer in line. Your driving comfort is further enhanced if the trailer does begin to sway (from a gust of wind or a passing semi), because the movement from the trailer is not transferred to your vehicle. This also works to make the sway subside more quickly.

An empty truck on a bumpy road without Timbren

Another great feature of the rubber construction is that the springs absorb most of the road shock, creating a smoother, more stable ride overall when loaded. Wear and tear on the factory suspension is also lessened because the rubber springs work to prevent bottoming out on rough roads.

Timbren Suspension Enhancement Compared to the Competition

Timbren's Suspension Enhancement Systems are much easier to install than air springs - there are no air hoses to run, no compressors or gauges to hook up, and no manual adjustments to make. The rubber construction makes Timbren's springs more elastic than similar products constructed of microcellular urethane. And more elasticity allows for a more comfortable ride when loaded or towing because the rubber has more travel.

Video Transcript for The Low-Down on the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System-TURMDE

Hello everybody, this is Jeff from etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 2000-2005 international 2,000 and 5,000 series trucks and on a custom fit part like this, always like to recommend for you to go to our website, use the fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle. And it'll show you if this'll work for your application. Now this kit will improve your suspension, handling and safety of your vehicle.

It will provide additional support as needed. So, you always have a nice, smooth, comfortable ride, and it will allow the leaf spring ample movement while cushioning any light loads. It will become more rigid as more weight is added. So increased stability provides great performance while hauling heavy loads, and it does reduce vehicle sag. These will work independently side-to-side, help compensate for any off-center loads and will reduce body roll when you're swerving and turning corners. These will act as shock absorbers.

Taking the brunt of any bumps and rough roads, helps extend the life of your vehicle's suspension. This kit will include these two hollow rubber springs, the vehicle-specific brackets and the hardware included for nice simple installation. It comes with a nice set of detailed instructions. Now, basically this will replace your bump stop assembly. And these brackets here we'll install around the rear axle and then your spring go right on to install right on top of that.

The specs on this, the capacity is 15,000 pounds, but you do want to make sure not to exceed the vehicle's weight-carrying capacity, but that should do it for the review on the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System.

I haven't installed these yet, but they were just what I was looking for to take the "squat" out of my truck while pulling my toy hauler.
These along with my WDH should level the truck just fine.

by:

These are the hardest ride you could possibly get loaded or unloaded I would not recomend timbrens to anyone. Had to eat the cost and replace them with air bags. (Aweful product)

Happy with this purchase. Keeps the truck level and the ride smooth.

by:

The supplied bolts are too short. Finding the right bolts added to time to do the install.

The jounce springs are 1/2 inch from axle. I'm sure the ride will be very harsh even when not loaded...

by:

by:

Product looks good. Now if only they came with an installer.

by:

Always great experience.

I recently purchased a 2024 tundra hybrid platinum. With this being the luxury addition the rear suspension is lacking when in comes to towing when I would hook to my 7x16 enclosed trailer my truck really saved.
I purchased and installed the timbren ses stops and no more sag. The ride of my truck remains smooth when unloaded and the timbrens also stopef the side to side rocking. Will post another after I tow a few times.

by:

Easy to install on my 2022 RST Silverado, took approx 10 minutes start to finish.

  • Installation Location for Timbren SES on 2024 Chevy Silverado 5500
Hey Travis! The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TURMDE installs to the side of your springs. This will replace the existing bump stop. I'm sorry to say we don't have any pictures or videos of a 5500/6500 since that isn't something we see very often. A customer would have to bring one in for installation for us to get those. If you decide to install these we would appreciate any pictures you sent in so we could add them to the product page. If you need anything feel free to...

  • Suspension Enhancement for 2024 Chevrolet 5500/6500
Hi Travis; I'm assuming these are 2024 models since you were looking at the 2024 F-550. The best thing I can offer is the Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TURMDE. With all that weight in the back I'm sure there is a lot less weight on the front axle which is a big part of your problem. These are going to give you additional support in the rear to level the trucks and smooth out the ride. They have a massive 15,000 lb capacity so they can handle that rear weight on your service...

  • Suspension Enhancement to Help Sag on 2022 Chevy Silverado 6500
The best option for suspension enhancement for your 2022 Chevy Silverado 6500 to help with its sag is going to be Timbrens to help support the added weight in the rear. The correct part number for your Chevy is the following: - Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TURMDE The reason why the Timbrens # TURMDE are the best is they take the brunt of the added weight from your gear (in your case your tools and equipment), and engage to counteract sag and body roll, helping level and...

  • Will The Timbren Suspension Create a Harsh Ride On 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 6500 Chassis With Crane?
The Timbren Rear Suspension Enhancement System # TURMDE for your 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 6500 will help to reduce sag and body roll while you are driving. With the suspension on your Silverado already having so much weight on the back from the crane as well as the welder and box you will not notice as harsh of a ride like you experienced when they were on your 2018 Chevrolet Colorado. The springs they use on small trucks like your Colorado I feel are way to stiff as they are often rated...

  • What Timbrens do You Recommend for My 2022 Chevy Silverado 4500?
For a great set of rear Timbrens for your 2022 Chevy Silverado 4500, I recommend the # TURMDE. Not only do these provide your truck with 15,000 pounds of load-leveling capacity, they help prolong the overall life of your factory suspension. The installation is a super easy process that comes with all required hardware included for a bolt-on job.
