Rough terrain and sudden dips can slam your suspension hard at full travel. These Timbren Active Off-Road Bumpstops use progressive-rate rubber springs that absorb the impact before it becomes a jarring stop. Instead of a harsh metal-to-metal hit, the axle energy is cushioned for smooth, predictable, and quiet engagement and disengagement. You get a steady, comfortable ride even when the suspension maxes out.
Whether it’s gear in the bed or equipment out back, this setup keeps your rear suspension performing strong. With a 2,000-lb standard weight capacity and a 4,800-lb bump load rating, these bumpstops step in when you need extra cushion under load. The support helps control squat and keeps the vehicle steady so steering and braking stay consistent when hauling or running rough trails.
Factory bumpstops wear fast when pushed hard. These are made from a natural rubber compound that stays flexible and effective even after years of off-road use. The steel brackets and disks are laser cut for precision, then coated with a durable powder finish to resist rust and corrosion. It’s a setup built to handle real-world punishment without giving up performance.
Getting set up is straightforward thanks to the included U-bolt flip kit. Everything is designed for simple installation so you can bolt it on without extra parts or complicated steps. Once fitted, you’re ready to roll with smoother travel, better control, and suspension protection that lasts for the long haul.

Great product bolstering the towing capability of the new softer rear coil spring suspension on the Gen 4 Tacoma. BTW, my 2024 Off Road rides great compared to my previous Tacomas.
Bought these for Dad's Toyota TRD off-road to pull his new 3500# camper. They work to soften the load and lessen the squat but there's no space between them and the frame, so they are constantly providing resistance and not letting suspension work before engaging. He's only done short towa with it since, so we'll see how it works over time and when unloaded.
Been using the front and rear Timbrens on MY 2020 Nissan Frontier King Cab SV 4x4
These do what they're built to do. I overland a lot so when the truck gets weighed down with gear she tends to squat a little and when I go through bumpy areas the factory stops would slam the frame. No any more with these Active Bump Stops. A much smoother ride and less body roll when cornering.
I had no problems with the installation. It only took about 15 minutes to put these on! There is adjustment space on the brackets to let u be able to center product over rear axles. The pictures below show the product installed while my 4 runner is both raised up for installation and after lowering it down. When lowered down and jack removed I have about an inch clearance.
Installation was a breeze! Followed the instructions and lifted the truck up using a jack under my hitch, loosened the u-bolts, removed the factory bump stops and installed the timbrens! Took 5 minutes for each side, and 5 minutes to setup and take down setup. 15 minutes max. Very easy to do. I believe I am going to need a 1” spacer as I have 1.5” Icon add-a-leaf packs in order to get them to engage while towing.
I’ve been running the ActiveOffRoad bumpstops on my vehicles for several years and have installed several sets on friends and customers vehicles as well. I highly recommend them as the finishing touch to any performance suspension upgrade, as they reduce any hash bottom-out situations to virtually nothing. Also the SES models greatly improve ride and load capabilities on stock vehicles, also with a much improved ride. Wonderful products!
My 2013 4runner was squatting in the rear when I coupled my 6X12 motorcycle trailer. I was very happy to have found the Timbren bump stop to simply bolt on and fix the problem. However.....during the installation I noticed I had to use ALL of the adjustment slot on the unit to TRY to center on the rear axle. I oriented the units as far towards the rear as the adjustment would allow.
When I coupled my trailer to the 4runner it correctly forced the Timbren bump stop to contact the axle and this is where the problem is.
The Timbren bump stop CAN NOT be adjusted far enough towards the rear to accomplish a centering on the axle. There is a 25% overhang of the bump stop on the axle front. When I communicated with Timbren about this they said" it's a good installation and it's ok". It is not ok.
Imagine that all of the force of a fully loaded truck will be negotiating curves, potholes, swoops and other hazards of the road at highway speeds. All of this stress is distributed on 75% of the product. It can't work as well as if it was 100% distribution. I felt the product was overpriced to begin with. After paying a premium price I expected a custom proper fit.
I can't recommend this product for Toyota 4runner owners.
Made a huge difference on my 5th gen. Have king suspension on it and used with toytec drop kit. Smoothed it out. Should have done this upgrade years ago. Pictures show oem, and timbren compressed on a curb. Even though they are active off-road I’m sure it will help with towing as well. Easy install.
While towing my boat (2021 Tracker Pro Guide V-175/Mercury 115 ProXS, ~3,200lbs) in my 2021 Toyota 4Runner SR5 Premium, I noticed a significant rear squat. Additionally, fellow motorists would flag me for “high beaming” when I was not. This squatting in the rear raised the front end and subsequent headlight alignment. After much research and review, I purchased the Timbren SES and installed it. With the vehicle hitch unloaded, the SES rides approximately 1.250” above the rear axel. With the boat loaded onto the hitch, the Timbren SES contacts the axel and holds the load firmly, maintaining a level vehicle. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the ride was not greatly effected. Matter of fact, the vehicle rides much better while towing than before installing the SES. With the 3rd row seating in use, and the vehicle full of passengers, the rear passengers complained of a very bumpy ride and I noticed a very rough feel with hard bumps from the rear. After installing the Timbren SES, even with the boat on the hitch and the vehicle fully loaded, my 4Runner remains level and the ride is substantially improved. If you have 3rd row seating and/or plan on towing ANYTHING with your 4Runner, you absolutely need the Timbren SES. Installation is a breeze. Easiest accessory you’ll ever upgrade.
I had these on my Tacoma and liked the way they worked so much that I got a set for my new to me Tundra. You don't notice anything until you put a load on the truck. Then you feel more stable under load and don't have to worry as much about the leaf springs. The install was done in 15 minutes
These installed just like the instructions on your website. I think they will help with hauling loads to the landfill for me. That’s about as off road as I go.
It was easy to install. I will pull a heavy trailer next week for about 500 miles and know better then how well it works.
Disappointed to find the bracket paint was chipped off in several places. Easy installation. Hopefully performs as advertised.
No issues. Bump stops were easy to install. 10 minutes tops. Etrailer is a great company to order from.
Not sure how I would rate these Timbrens the application would not work on my truck. When installed on my truck, there was not enough clearance brake and other lines on drives side axle to feel comfortable with. Also, the temperance sat approximately 3 1/2 inches off of the axle when truck is in unloaded Did not look like it was going to sit on Timbrens axle flat plate. I believe this is a good product just not a product that’s going to work for me.
I returned the product back to etrailer as of now I have no issues for my refund. Customer service was great to work with no complaints there. Still not decided if I’m going to try something else for pulling our travel trailer.
Install on a 2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road was simple and quick. Transformed the ride quality over large bumps and works great for towing! I’ve run airbags and heavier springs on trucks before and the bump stops are an excellent alternative to both.
So far, they’re excellent. I have a 24’ Taco w/ SuperPacific X1 camper. The bumpstops even out the ride when the rig is full. Great addition. Great Quality. Easy install.
Easy install (2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport 4X4) of the quality Timbren bump stops. Took about 30 minutes, taking my time. Just raises the rear end about six inches with a floor jack and a block of wood, six bolts total. I have not tried towing my camper yet but I did buy some heavy windows and there was no sag. The bump stops are crazily overbuilt compared to the factory (see picture) and are a simple upgrade if you have sag when towing or carry heavy loads in the bed (for reference, the Timbren stops are roughly one inch above my axle when unloaded.)
Makes me want to go hook up my camper just to see where she sits, but I have no doubt that the Timbrens will eliminate any dip in the back. Recommended for build quality, ease of install and economy (compared to air bags or other alternatives)
Install is straight forward. I would note that on my 2025 hybrid I had to cut the tie wraps from the remove wire clip and use my own zip ties. The spacing between tie wraps was far too short to simply move the clip to the new location on the timbren bracket.
If you remove your tire, it's extremely easy to access and install (at least on my 2026 4runner). I took a measurement to my hitch, with no load. It was 19 1/2". Then I attached my rv and with the factory bumpstops, it was 17 1/8". Then after the Timbren install, same load, it was 18 1/8". It reduced the "sag" by 1". Plus, I think the 4runner handles better on bumpy roads and turns.
easy to install good product..
I installed these on a customers truck. They we're easy to install and have not heard a complaint from customer. So must be good.
The kit arrived fine, but the small parts were in what looked like a sandwich bag. Everything looked new, but it definitely looked like I was sent an open box item.
