Features to know about

Stay Level and Confident: 3,000-lb Front Suspension Support

Heavy front-end loads like slide-outs or gear can cause sag that throws off steering and braking. These SumoSprings Rebel helper springs add up to 3,000 lbs of support at 50-percent compression to keep the front end level and stable. The microcellular urethane material cushions bumps and absorbs road shock so your ride feels smoother and more controlled even when the weight piles on.

Smooth Ride On or Off the Road: 2-Piece Design with Unlimited Suspension Travel

Uneven pavement or rough terrain can make a heavy vehicle bounce and jar uncomfortably. The two-piece design of these springs lets the suspension move freely when unloaded, separating under light conditions for a soft, comfortable ride. When loaded, the halves meet to deliver full support that keeps suspension travel unrestricted without harshness.

SumoSprings Rebel two-piece front helper springs installed on vehicle frame and axle showing separation for full suspension travel

Adapt to Every Load: Progressive Load Control

Not every trip carries the same weight, and these springs adjust automatically. Lighter loads compress the urethane easily for gentle engagement, while heavier ones push the springs up to 80 percent of their travel for firm support. The result is a steady, even stance whether you’re lightly packed or carrying serious weight.

SumoSprings Rebel helper springs compressing under vehicle load demonstrating progressive suspension support

Stay in Control Through Turns: Independent Spring Action

Body roll and off-center loads can make steering feel loose in curves or gusty conditions. Each SumoSpring works independently to balance side-to-side pressure, keeping handling consistent through turns and crosswinds. That independent movement helps reduce sway and keeps all four tires making solid contact with the road.

Built Tough for Long Service: Durable, Maintenance-Free Design

Road salt, oil, and UV rays can break down weaker materials fast. These microcellular urethane springs resist abrasion and weather damage while performing reliably from -25°F to 200°F. They expand and compress vertically with minimal side movement so nearby parts stay protected. With no air lines or pressure checks to worry about, you bolt them on once and they’re ready for the long haul.

Excellant product. RV rides great after installing Sumosprings and Shocks

Inatallation was very easy. There is no air gap between springs which makes them seem to work through all cycles. Haven't road tested them yet so we will see when I do.

I ordered this for our 2013 Newmar Canyon Star, and they were not difficult to install. Still need to take it out for a road test, but installation on the front was not bad at all. The video was really helpful with that part. It was my first suspension upgrade, but it was necessary as our bump stops were all but rotted out. The alignment at the top and bottom looks like it's going to be off until you lower it down. Appears to be a very good purchase. Road test will be the final test.

I installed these front Sumos on my 2023 Ford F53 chassis Class A Tiffin for several reasons. The factory bump stops had fallen out so something needed to be installed. I decided to invest in the Sumos to provide suspension support and get all the benefits of Sumos. I installed them, test drove the coach and am pleased with the results. They help cushion the front end and provide anti roll assistance. They work well with the Konis to soften the natural harshness of leaf springs. I’m very pleased with this addition.

Product came in within 3 days or so. Bought SUMO SPRINGS and a steering stabilizer for my 38’ Gas Motorhome and they work wonders. Highly recommed getting these items. . Feels like a different RV. 3rd time or so that I have bought from these guys, always came thru. Happy customer. And I installed front/back sumo springs and stabilizer by myself in 2hrs.
by:
The work great! Was going to go with the Air-Ride air bags in the front but folks had noted that the bags are strained when the leveling pulls the front wheels up to the point of coming off the ground. Glad we went with these. The person I put this on for is Handicap (or Handicapable as she says!) and these do not require air or making sure the pressure(s) are correct and holding.
It was a pain in the butttt get the original jounce bumper off the drivers side, but we muscled through it!! Thanks, Amy, for your help in ordering!! v

I installed the sumo springs. I followed the directions that came in the box and the video on the web site were very helpful. It took me about 2 hours to install. I am hoping that these springs will help take some of the rough ride out of our motor home as the website and many other users have claimed. I am looking forward to testing them out.
by:
Sumo springs arrived today. Very good quality product, straight forward installation took about an hour and a half to install on 2018 Bounder 35p.Have pictures of stock bump stop and new springs, no comparison, installed springs and have pictures with jacks up and jacks down. Only reason I didn’t give them a five star rating is I haven’t driven the motor home yet.

overall a great product, however no one would help me fix my issue with the mounting bracket on the bottom being a year different i need the Plate not the J hooks. Having been a last minute purchase and even with timely delivery.. was out of time to return and exchange the part.

this was not acceptable due to having to leave on the Trip to Idaho.
Neither Sumo spring int or E-tralier would go the little extra distance to ship me just the mounting plates in exchange for the J hooks seems simple enough to meet customer satisfaction issues with a minor fix Since we are supposed to be customer facing for customer satisfaction.

Having to engineer my own mounting bracket out of Plate steel (just imagine how simple this fix is (exchange and deal with the return Later) A simple thing providing the brackets or or swapping out the J hooks would solve this issue. or making a change to the mounting methods in one box.Gee what an idea customer service while solving a problem.

Guess no one is concerned it's your problem now is not an acceptable resolution and are not into Customer satisfaction or making it Right!

even if it was a customer mistake due to being the wrong year for the chassis vs the year of the for CLass A NO one was interested in helping or fixing my Issue. Bummer

Excellent product. I have a 2018 Thor motor home on the Ford chassis. After purchasing it and driving it 100 miles home in sustained 40 mile mph winds, I was starting to regret buying it. Even without wind, it was a handful to drive. I purchased the sumo spring for the front and rear. The change it the handling was way better then I expected. Even in high winds. Nothing will stop all the effects of the wind on a motor home, but I can now drive it 70 mph with confidence. The biggest change was with the side to side rocking. Driving on uneven lanes and on two lane roads with out shoulders is no longer a problem. I installed them myself without removing the tires. You have to use a right angle drill. It took me 5 hours to do it, but I’m 60 years old and slow. I plan on doing other improvements like steering stabilizer and track bar. Adding the sumo spring is the best thing anyone can do to improve handling. I actually enjoy driving my motor home now.

After looking into your order, it looks like you have a 2 wheel drive F-53 chassis with a gross vehicle weight of 22,000 lbs. And that may be the issue. It looks like this kit is designed to fit your chassis if the gross vehicle weight is between 24,000 and 26,000 lbs. You will actually need part # SSF-170-40-2. Lets go ahead and get a return label set up for you and a new order placed for the correct part.

@Barry Just realized that somehow my review got mixed up somehow. It was the Timbren rear that was missing a bolt. Sorry for mix up. It rained after I installed Sumo and the box got soaked, so It was disposed of, Today I realized that I needed that number from that box for warranty registration. Do you by any chance have it on invoice?

One year ago I installed Sumo Springs front and rear on my class A motorhome. This upgrade is the best suspension add on for improved sway control and overall handling. etrailer helped me make the proper choice based on overall vehicle weight and specific chassis. Fast shipping and fair pricing.
by:
I had the both the front and rear sumo Springs installed on my 2016 Newmar Canyon Star, by the crew at Etrailer.
The improvement in the handling was noticeable the minute I hit the road. The most noticeable effect was the reduction in the top heavy sway when cornering.
It also seems to have reduced the effect of passing semi's .
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who has a Ford F53 chassis on their motorhome.
by:
One year now, we love our SumoSprings, they helped with the front end dive when applying the brakes & with wind sway. Etrailer was easy to use & the part was shipped on time.

  • What Front SumoSprings do I Need for My 2017 Thor Class A on a Ford F-53 Chassis?
Hello Tim, Thanks for writing in, happy to help find the correct SumoSprings for the front axle. You will need to choose from the following depending on what your GVWR is. You can find that rating on the sticker inside the driver’s side door jamb, or sometimes on a plate near the driver’s seat area. If your GVWR is between 16,000 and 22,000 lbs you will want the SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs - 2 Piece - Front Axle # SSF-170-40-2. If your GVWR is between 24,000 and 26,000 lbs...

  • Recommended Sumo Springs for 2018 Ford F53 Chassis 24,000 lbs
The SumoSprings Rebel Custom Helper Springs - 2 Piece - Front Axle # SSF-173-40-2 will support the load and compress together on your motorhome all the time when there is weight. The split design is a benefit for the individual springs when the suspension travel is greater than what a single non-split design could handle. In other words, when one wheel travels lower on a turn, the spring will not take weight off the wheel so it has more weight in contact with the road for better traction....

  • Suspension Enhancement for 2021 Forest River Georgetown 36K7 Motorhome
We can get your 2021 Forest River Georgetown 36K7 set up for a smoother and more controlled ride, and the best way to do that is to add an aftermarket rear anti-sway bar because they are better constructed with higher-strength, thicker steel than OEM sway bars. This means the bars are stronger with much higher roll stiffness to combat sway, and their placement at the rear of the vehicle allows for the greatest improvement in handling. After that, to get the best overall handling, you can...

The two piece design like the part # SSF-173-40-2 does allow the suspension to work better in the top of its travel since it can allow the sections to separate uninhibited. A one piece design would work to prevent the suspension from topping all the way out which could turn into a harsher ride quality.
