Features to know about

Tighter Handling on the Road: Adjustable 1-1/8" Rear Sway Bar

Body roll doesn’t just make driving uncomfortable — it robs you of control. The solid 1-1/8" chromoly steel bar ties the rear axle to the frame to keep things level through corners and quick maneuvers. With three adjustment points, you can dial in the stiffness to match your load or driving style for a more planted, confident ride.

Confident Control in Wind and Traffic: Reduced Side-to-Side Movement

Crosswinds and passing trucks can make a rig feel like it’s dancing on the highway. This adjustable rear anti-sway bar keeps the chassis steady by minimizing side-to-side sway. The result is a more predictable ride that stays level, even when the road or weather throw you off balance. You’ll feel the difference in every stretch of open highway.

Less Fatigue on Long Drives: Stable, Predictable Handling

Long hauls shouldn’t leave you fighting the wheel. By cutting down on body roll and sway, this setup helps you stay straight and relaxed behind the wheel. You’ll spend less energy correcting your line and more time enjoying the drive, whether it’s a weekend trip or a cross-country run.

Built to Last: 4140 Chromoly Steel and Polyurethane Bushings

This isn’t a lightweight setup. The thick 4140 chromoly steel bar delivers serious strength, while tough polyurethane bushings resist oil, gas, and ozone for consistent support over time. Both the bar and brackets are finished in corrosion-resistant powder coat — silver vein on the bar, black on the brackets — so it stays solid and good-looking through years of use.

Straightforward Installation: Bolt-On Design with Hardware Included

No drilling, no guesswork. Everything you need is in the box — zinc-plated mounting hardware, detailed instructions, and bushing lube. The kit reuses the existing end links and bolts right up for an easy, driveway-friendly install. Once it’s on, you’re set for a more stable, confidence-inspiring drive.

Video Transcript for Hellwig Big Wig Rear Anti-Sway Bar Manufacturer Discussion

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer, and today I'm with Vern from Hellwig, and we have some sway bars here and I've put sway bars on my own personal vehicles for kind of more of a motor sport feel. And so something like this makes a world of difference. First turn, just everyday driving. But I've also installed larger ones. This is for an F53 RV chassis and you wouldn't expect an RV to make a huge difference with sway bars or think about performance, but they're top heavy. And the first thing you notice as soon as you put one of these on, just stabilize it.

So what exactly does a sway bar do You know, a sway bar really works to keep a vehicle level at all time. And a level vehicle is a safe vehicle. So you have, when you go into a corner or hit a curb, going over a curb, your vehicle wants to go side to side. And that sway bar actively works to bring you back to level every time. So how does one take a sway bar and get it mounted up to their vehicle So typically, it's a pretty simple.

It mounts in four places. So you can see here, here is the sway bar, it mounts to the axle and then at the end it mounts with end lengths to the frame of the vehicle. So for instance, the end link would attach to the end of the sway bar and this would attach to the frame. So at that point it's mounted in four places, it's secure and it works, the sway bar moves with the frame rolling on the vehicle. So how does this have movement As the vehicle rolls, the sway bar is really a giant spring that wants to return to levels.

So as the vehicle rolls from side to side, it works to bring it, the spring action works to bring it right back to the level place. So is it squeaky at all or is there any road noise that comes from it You know, they come from the factory with rubber bushings. Every vehicle is a front sway bar. It comes with rubber bushings. Rubber bushings are great for when they're brand new, but rubber deteriorates.

Hellwig supplies in every kit. Urethane bushings with bushing grease. And when you mount it on there, the biggest problem with polyurethane bushings is when they dry out, they squeak. When have a hammer tone finish here and it really has little divots in it. And when you grease these up and put the polyurethane bushing on it, they really do a great job of holding that grease in there forever. You should never have to re-grease it there. So there's a rhyme and reason to our hammer tone finish. Brad So it creates little pockets, basically, to hold that lubricant in rather than pushing it out and drying out. Vern Correct, a smooth finish would, it just washes out of there pretty fast. So that's why we do the hammer tone finish. Now sway bars, I'm a big fan of them, but many people want to use jounce bumpers or airbags to kind of counteract that sway. What's your take on that We still helper springs and one thing that a jounce bumper or a helper spring can do is they can help limit sway. So what they do is they bring it to it and they come to a stop. So it does limit the sway, but only a sway bar actively works to bring it back to level. We wish we had a product that did both, but you really need a sway bar to bring it back to level. So a sway bar's actively always there fighting against it whereas your downs bumper you do have to close that gap before it engages. And really, I mean it does limit how far the vehicle will sway over. So they can still use jounce bumpers or airbags in conjunction with an aftermarket sway bar. Yeah, absolutely. And if somebody wanted to run SumoSprings or even our helper springs, they work well together. Now Hellwig also offers the Big Wig series. What is that The Big Wig series is a larger diameter sway bar really designed for the 3/4-ton and one ton truck crowd. The Big Wig really shines when you have a cab over camper or anything that creates a vehicle to be top heavy and sway more so it's really designed for a working truck. You can still use the Big Wig even if you don't tow or haul loads too. It's our adjustability. Let's use the Big Wig for that. In fact, anytime somebody has a one ton truck, I always recommend the Big Wig. So adding sway bars, just kind of to wrap everything up. I've seen the difference. I've seen the reviews I've gotten to install sway bars and see before and after. It makes a world of difference. Hard to quantify. It's something, a feel that only the driver feels and it really makes a world of difference. So if you have that top heavy feel, whether it be from a muscle car and you just want a little bit better turn in, a little bit more tight feeling and just kind of a nice planted car for more grip, or you wanna make your RV just a better driving experience and everything in between, Hellwig probably has a product for you. You know, the one thing we hear over and over is when somebody puts on a sway bar, the difference is night and day. It truly is. And once you get one installed, you'll see we're not just talking. This is truly an awesome product. And the great part about suspension additives like this is, once it's installed, there's really no real maintenance and you get the benefits of it every time you drive. So Verne, thank you so much for coming out here and representing Hellwig and giving us a little bit of a insight into sway bars. Well, we appreciate being here and look forward to taking care of your neighbors.

2016 Ram 2500
For the second time in a row ordering from etrailer, either parts were missing from my order or shipping was a problem. The sway bar works fine, once I got the right parts to install it.

Great quality part at a decent price and a quick delivery on my order. Will definitely use etrailer again!!

It was just what I needed to fix the top heavy sway on my truck camper!
by:
Instant improvement and a super simple install. 15 minutes and you are back on the road. The truck feels planted now and handles cornering and road transitions as it should. No its not a cheap one but it absolutely works.

Overall is a good product. The bar itself is good quality and the parts are good. So far so good on the sway bar. Makes my truck ride better and feel more controlled. If you’re installing this on a 2020+ silverado 2500, the way this is hung from the frame is difficult. Theres a part of assembly the requires a metal plate tack welded to a wire that has to go inside the frame of the truck. I spent about an hour and a half to install it but I ran through the install process about four times. When you push that plate into the frame you really have no control where it lands. I ended up using a small metal pick to pull the plate to the required location. Once there, I used a long screw driver to hold the plate down while I set the bolt in. I honestly think had I not used the screwdriver this plate would have never gone on. Theres a small hole right above the mounting hole to push the plate down. Theres also welded bolts that GM put under the rear shocks that have no threads and thats where the brackets go. It says to drill them out and use the provided bolts but I just went to my local auto shop and picked up bolts that fit the welded bolts. Seemed to work just fine. Once these were overcome, install was straight forward and went on pretty quick. Four stars just because the mounting is difficult compared to other products HellWig make.

I really like the fitment and performance of the product. I have installed a Hellwig anti-sway bar on my last 3 trucks and always feel an improvement the way the truck handles cornering and when pulling a load, especially when there is a cross wind.

Thanks for your review, Matt! It says a lot that this is the third truck you've equipped with a Hellwig anti-sway bar. We're glad to hear you've continued to see improvements in handling, especially when cornering, towing, and dealing with crosswinds. It really is amazing the difference an upgraded sway bar makes!

2015 toyota Tacoma
Application was a 2015 Tacoma.
Install was easy enough. For others that may read this, it would be wise your spare tire to make certain there is no interference with the sway bar.
I have a 33" spare tire, I had to make new adjustments after I tried to put spare tire back up. Infact, May be wise if you have room to leave the spare tire in and work accordingly.

The install is new, sediments are a bit subjective as to difference. But driving while unloaded I get a bit surprised that the Tacoma tracked really well around a curve. Folks at E- Trailer were great.

When lifting a jeep, body roll, increases due to the mechanical advantage of the chassis over the factory sway bars. This larger and adjustable sway bar helps correct that issue and allows for fine-tuning to driver preference.

2022 Ford F-150
Fairly easy installation and I’m not a mechanic. For the price of a professional installation, I was able to purchase all necessary tools and still save money.
by:
Easy installation

Haven’t towed with i
t yet so not sure how much it will help the sway with a 31ft travel trailer.

Upon receiving the box which came on time, I took all the pieces out to make sure I got everything I needed. Two 7/16-20 21/4 inch bolts were missing. I called Hellwig customer support and they promptly sent the replacements. The bolts were not packed with the rest of the installation materials. I also want to say that the top of the box was torn open. Many of the heavy staples had come out. The box inside was torn open and a couple of pieces had slipped out. Also someone trampled over the box because there were boot marks all around the box. Very poor quality in delivery service even though it came on time. Important parts could have fallen out and delayed installation. Not very good delivery service.
by:
This is a heavy duty sway bar. The installation was straight forward and simple.
I used the middle adjustment hole as I wanted to tow an RV. I took it on an initial test drive. This unit completely got rid of the body roll. Well please and know that a little hint, wear gloves when apply the lubricant as that is gooey!

2026 dodge Ram Pickup
I installed the 1 inch adjustable anti-sway bar on my 2026 ram rebel and it works great. Even though I only put it on the least aggressive setting, the truck handle so much better through the turns now that it did before. I will test it to a 7000 pound trailer in the next couple weeks. . Definitely recommend!. Also, E trailers Service was super friendly and super fast. I received the Hellwig antisway bar in two days after ordering

2017 dodge Ram Pickup
I put a really heavy truck camper on my 2017 ram 2500 6.7 hemi and it took turns ok but it would rock side to side a couple times over bumps and uneven roads. I wasn't sure if this would make a difference because the factory one looked pretty big but it made a huge difference. This and airbags are a must for heavy loads.
I also go it a day sooner then I thought.
Very happy.

2024 Ford F-150
Solid, sturdy and well built anti-sway bar. I installed it on my 2024 Ford F150 without removing the spare tire and the install went fairly easy. It did take some time as I was.doing it myself. An extra set of hands would make it a bit easier. Love how solid my truck feels and drives now.
by:
I only recently learned my 2023 1500 ram, which includes the tow package, uses a hollow sway bar. Disappointed in Ram.
Using the outer most setting made a significant difference over the original equipment. In fact the difference is so noticeable I’m going to fireplace the front sway bar as well.

  • Recommended Sway Bar for a Stock Height 2014 Ram 2500
Hey Shawn. The 1-1/8" Diameter Hellwig Sway Bar item # HE73GR is going to reuse the factory end links on your 2014 Ram 2500 and is designed as a simple replacement for the stock sway bar. I recommend installing the thicker 1-1/4" Diameter Hellwig Sway Bar item # HE87FR on your Ram 2500. It is designed for the stock height and has upgraded end links that replace the factory ones. The factory ones aren't strong enough for the thicker sway bar. What kind of camper do you have? You can...

  • Recommended Hellwig Anti-Sway Bar for a 2018 Ram 2500
No, you're going to want to use the Hellwig Adjustable Rear Anti-Sway Bar item # HE73GR instead. This one is also 1-1/8" but it is designed for trucks with a stock ride height or the ones that have been lifted up to 2". It is confirmed to fit the 4WD 2018 Ram 2500. The Hellwig item # HE95YR you were looking at is designed for trucks with a big aftermarket lift in the rear end and won't work with stock heights.

  • 2025 Ram Power Wagon Sway Control and SumoSprings
Hi Stephan, happy to help! I’d start with the Hellwig Adjustable Rear Anti Sway Bar, part # HE73GR. It’s a great way to address the side to side movement you’re feeling at highway speeds, especially from wind and passing traffic, and it will help keep the truck more planted and predictable. Hellwig is also a very reputable name when it comes to sway control, and this bar is designed to fit even if your truck has a lift. Since the Project M is a relatively light camper, I’d pair that with...
