Features to know about

Stay Level and Confident Under Load: 5,000-lb Ride Support

When heavy loads or trailers make the rear sag, the Firestone Ride-Rite air helper springs pick up the slack. Rated for a 5,000-lb load-leveling capacity, these double-convoluted air springs sit between the frame and rear suspension to keep your vehicle level and stable under weight. That means steady steering, better braking, and headlights that stay aimed where they should—all while reducing strain on your rear axle and leaf springs.

Smooth Out the Rough Stuff: Adjustable Air Pressure from 5 psi?– 100 psi

Every load is different, and these air bags let you dial in the ride with manual inflation valves that adjust individually from 5 psi to 100 psi. Add air when you’re towing or hauling to firm things up, or drop pressure when unloaded for a smoother ride. The adjustable setup equalizes off-center loads to help reduce body roll and absorb road shock so you won’t bottom out over bumps or rough pavement.

Built to Handle Real Work: Reinforced Double-Convoluted Design

Each Ride-Rite spring uses four layers of reinforced rubber and a braided wire girdle to form a heavy-duty double-convoluted shape that boosts burst pressure and durability. Corrosion-resistant metal end plates lock in place with a rolled crimp seal to keep the bags secure mile after mile. This rugged construction softens contact between axle and frame, reduces wear on tires, and helps prevent permanent sagging in the suspension.

Firestone Ride-Rite air spring components including double-convoluted rubber bags, brackets, and hardware

Everything You Need to Get It Done: Complete Kit for Installation

The kit includes brackets, air springs, hardware, airline tubing, and separate valves for manual inflation—everything necessary for installation. The custom brackets mount to your axle and frame, providing solid attachment points for the air springs. Drilling may be required in some setups, but once installed you’ve got reliable load support that’s easy to adjust whenever duty calls.

Best airbag kit on the market! Going on 10 years and 160k miles on one kit and a year and a half on the other (two different vehicles). Firestone’s quality is excellent, their customer service is exceptional, and the kit design is simple. Quality components means ZERO air leaks in 10 years when installed properly (cut the airlines at 90 degrees with an inexpensive airline cutter or brand new razor blade). Their mounting brackets are simplified, making more room for the airbag between the axle and frame. And the double convoluted bag offers better ride quality and more suspension movement than a single convoluted bag. I’ve run a single convoluted bag setup from another reputable manufacturer and noticed a marked decrease in ride quality and comfort. I also recommend installing cradles such as those from Daystar (also 10 years on a set) to allow 100% downtravel for maintenance or off-road articulation without fear of tearing a bag. Well worth spending a little more for this USA brand kit over the cheap Chinese copy-cat kits. I tow and haul regularly - weekly, if not several times a week - and these have stood up to snowy sub freezing winters, 100 degree summer days, dusty and gravely off-highway adventures, and general use and abuse that comes from working out of a vehicle for a decade. Can’t find a better kit.

The installation was pretty straightforward, and was managed at campsite with basic tools. It is filled with Milwaukee portable air inflator and has been keeping air pressure set at. We have had good use of it to level truck after loading 5th wheel. I elected to not join both lines together so I can keep individual air pressure in case one had leak but has been fine, I might join them with optional part etrailer offered.
After 1 year and 8,000 miles has been great purchase. All bolt on, no holes to drill, I even placed fill valves in license plate to conceal installation.
Alex at etrailer was excellent as helping us find the correct kit and shipping promptly with great communication and follow up.

by:

Really quite easy installation. Honestly, the hardest part was routing the air line. (that coiled up hose!) I ended up covering the lines with cable wrapping to protect them from any rubbing or scuffing. I also don't have a compatable hitch for the mount, and didn't want to mount them through my bumper in the license plate area because I know I would step on them at some point in time. Product had all the correct parts, high quality, and super happy with it. I wish I had gotten them sooner.

by:

I just installed them and put them to work immediately and I am impressed so far! Installation was pretty simple, and they fit great even with an Old Man Emu 3" lift (7 leaf spring stack). It only took about 15 psi to level up the Tacoma even with 1000 Lbs of feed and a steel high rack on it and they handled that load over 50 miles of some very rough west Texas terrain. They seem to be very well made and heavy duty. Time will tell if they hold up but again, I am very impressed thus far!

by:

I’d really love to give these a 5 star as they massively improved the ride and porpoising of my truck with a fairly heavy truck back camper. We were shorted one bit of hardware in the kit that caused a 1 hour RT drive to the hardware store for a stupid bolt. One of the hex head flange/wedge bolts for the upper mount was missing . Simple ‘miss’ by someone but was annoying . That aside everything g was great.. instructions were clear and helpful… I’d give them a 2 of 5 for difficulty installing.. any weekend mechanic can do this. The truck rides better and is safer now so thumbs up all around except for Mr Bolt pack loader!

by:

Just what my Tundra needed to help balance load of bed and trailer.
etrailer.com and the products they offer are 100% in my opinion.
Thank You for your excellent service and follow up.

by:

Installation was really easy except for the lower brackets that attach to a lip of metal. There was another piece of metal on the axle that got in the way but i pried and then hammered the bracket into place, squeezing it in. If I didn’t I’d still be able to get the bolt through but I bet as I tightened it down it would move the base plate and wouldn’t be lined up as well. No air is leaking so far. I didn’t buy the compressor so I might screw on some Bluetooth tire pressure monitors so I’ll get notified if pressures drop below 5psi. I have a 2023 Chevy 2500 and surprisingly with 15psi and no load in the bed it rides much better! Doesn’t hop all over the place

by:

This installation took twice as long as it should have! The top plate had to be modified to clear the leaf spring U bolts and shock absorber bracket.
The Jounce doesn’t allow the installation of the 3/8@ bolts close the leaf spring that holds the brackets together. I’m not sure what to do with this now. I saw in other reviews where other people had similar issues. Not sure if it’s the universal bracket design vs having slotted holes like your video.
Any help would be appreciated.
Also both valve inserts had to be replaced!

by:

I purchased this Firestone Air suspension and installed it myself on my 2017 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab 4x4. Not having a lift, I had to use a creeper and tarps under and beside the truck to do the installation. Installation was pretty straight forward after viewing the video from etrailer a few times and using the provided diagrams. You will need good 3/4" drive hand tools for the installation. An electric or air impact wrench and ratchet also speeds things up. I then installed a mini onboard compressor with remote control for in cab or outside operation. The system has never leaked air but if it did, any time the vehicle is started, the compressor will refill the system. I keep 10 lbs. air pressure in it and raise it to 20 when I haul my dirt bike on my hitch carrier and it compensates nicely and keeps the vehicle level. All good so far.

This the 3rd truck I've used and installed myself of the Firestone 5,000lb rated airbags on, and not one has ever failed on me. I used them on a 2007.5 Chevy LMM 2500 LT Silverado, a 2020 Chevy 2500 LTZ Silverado, and yesterday I put them on my 2025 GMC 2500 Denali. I did pair my new bags with an Airlift wireless compressor, which is an awesome addition to the bags. I like the fact that etrailer did a comparison video on the Firestone and AirLift bags, and they found the Firestone bags are of better quality and can support the weight of the axle if you lift the truck off the ground by the frame. If you have never installed these bags, you do not have to lift the truck off the ground or remove your rear tires. If you're like me, and do not have access to a lift, I suggest removing your spare tire, which will give you more seating area, and you will not bonk your head into it. Two thumbs up on this kit

by:

excellent product, very easy (uncomplicated) install. anyone who is somewhat mechanically inclined can install themselves. It took me about 3.5 hours by myself with simple tools and a jack on my garage floor. Hardest part was me getting up and down from the creeper.
On my truck, (2015 GMC) i had to remove Ebrake cable brackets on both sides and reroute, not a big deal. also, did not find it necessary to remove spare tire heat shield, worked around it just fine. Routed my schrader valves through the plate screw holders for easy access.

A bad product can be salvaged with great customer service, but a great product is of no value if you don't have customer service. The great thing with Etrailer, is that here alone do you find both. What an awesome company to deal with. I will never look else where. Michelle and Tommy were outstanding in helping me choose the right kit and resolving a few install issues!!! Thank you both!!

by:

by:

I ordered this kit on feb 2nd recived it on feb 7th, with very little fabrication the kit was on in about 3 hrs. I can haul twice the amount of weight with no stress on my springs now . Etrailer was the best price on the web with excellent and fast service

by:

All the parts were there but, the upper bracket had to be modified so the holes would line up with the bottom of the frame rail, and other holes had to be drilled through the side of the frame rail. The instruction sheet needs a more user-friendly redo.

by:

The communication from trailer was excellent. From the beginning to delivery, I knew exactly where my oder was. My order arrived quickly and in great shape. I recommend etrailer for all your trailering needs.

by:

Firestone is pretty stingy with their air line. I had to go and buy some because they didn't send enough with the kit. So plan on spending another 20 dollars for air line when you buy this kit.

by:

Ordered the Firestone air bags for my 1996 dodge ram 2500 4wd they came in 3 days. The install went well took me about 1hr to do. I had to modify the upper bracket because I have a gooseneck hitch but other than that was very easy to do thanks etrailers.

by:

Great product awesome quality!!!

by:

They make all the difference. Truck rides better

by:

Works perfectly! It's so nice not having the truck sag and sway after installing the ride rite air bags. I built my own hard side pop up camper on my flatbed dually and it turned out a little heavier than I wanted but with the airbags I hardly know the camper is there.

by:

Install only took about 3 hours, modified top bracket to fit around my gooseneck, picked the rear of the truck up 3 inches and leveled it back out. It's a welding rig so it has about 3000lbs of weight in the bed, plus it pulls an rv. They seem to be holding up good so far, I'll order an on board air compressor and control soon to make it easier to adjust.

  • Air Bag Kit For 2002 Dodge Ram 3500 With In-Bed Hitch
Hi Chris! There are not a lot of options that are a fit for an 02 Dodge Ram 3500 with an in-bed gooseneck or 5th wheel hitch (which is what I assume you mean by pintle hitch, but if I am wrong, please let me know). The only option that is will be the Pacbrake Alpha HD Air Bag Suspension Kit - 5,000 lbs # PB82FV. This is a universal kit, so drilling is required and there is no compressor included. For that you will want the Air Lift Air Shock Controller Compressor System # AL25804. It's...

  • Can Air Bags be Installed on a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 with Curt Gooseneck C60734
The upper brackets for Firestone air bags # F2220 bolt through the frame but the frame brackets for Curt gooseneck hitch # C60734 do not have holes in them to accommodate this so this particular set up will not work together. If you could tell me if your Ram is a 1500, 2500, or 3500 as well as if it is 2- or 4-wheel drive, and if you already have the gooseneck hitch or air bags (or both or neither) I can see if we have some combination that will work for you.

  • Rear Air Bags for a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500
Thanks for reaching out, Chad! The kit that you referenced, # F2220, is only compatible with a 3500 - Cab and Chassis so wouldn't work for your 2500 - Pickup. The kit that would work is part # F2071. This will work on 2WD and 4WD trucks. Something to keep in mind is that it's not compatible with in-bed hitch; product mounts in same location as hitch brackets. You also need to check the distance from the outside of the frame to the inside of the tire and that it's at least 7-1/2". There...

  • What is Highest Weight Rated Firestone Air Bag Kit that Fits 1998 Dodge Ram 3500 CC
Hey Sherry, I wish we had what you are looking for but the only air bag kits we have for your 1998 Dodge Ram 3500 cab and chassis truck have a 5,000 lb capacity like the # F2220. We don't have the Red Label series for your truck due to age. 5,000 lb of additional suspension support is quite a bit though. Do you need a compressor too?

  • Air Springs for 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 Pickup
For the 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup we do have rear axle air spring kits. Air Lift rear axle kit # AL57215 fits both 2WD and 4WD versions of the 2001 Dodge Ram 3500 pickup, but please note this kit is not compatible with an in-bed 5th wheel or gooseneck hitch. We also offer kit # AL88215 for your truck which features air springs that have a built-in jounce bumper as backup in case of an air leak. This kit also does not work with in-bed hitches. • Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs for a 1998 Dodge Rame 2500 Diesel
The Firestone Vehicle Suspension, # F2220, that you have referenced would be a good choice if your 1998 Dodge Ram has Contact Overload Springs. This kit works on either 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive models that have contact overload springs. I have included a link to the installation details below. There are a couple of ways to determine if you have overload springs. On the 2500 and 3500 series Dodge Ram, there will be two extra rubber jounce bumpers installed over the spring pack on...

  • Suspension Enhancement Solution that Fits 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 with Gooseneck Hitch
At this time there are no in-bed hitches that will fit with the Firestone air bag kit # F2220 based on what Firestone states. So you'd have to remove that kit if you were serious about installing a gooseneck hitch and then use a Timbren part # TDR1525H4 for suspension enhancement and the Curt hitch part # C60734 that you referenced on your 1998 Dodge Ram 2500.

  • Will Firestone Air Bags Fit 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 4X4 With 3 Inch Lift
Yes, you can use the Firestone Air Bags on your 1998 Dodge Ram 2500. The # F2220 you were looking at are designed for trucks with contact overload springs so make sure that is what you have. With a 3" lift you're also going to need the Lift Spacers for Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2368. This is designed for vehicles with a 3" lift and from 8.5" to 9.5" between the upper and lower brackets. If you don't have contact overload springs then you need the # F2071 instead. Since...

I do have an option for you, however we do not have a rear air bag system available that is compatible with an in-bed hitch like the B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck on your 2001 Ram 2500. The mounting brackets for all of the air bag systems will use the same space on the truck frame that is needed for your gooseneck brackets.
