Required in most states, a safety chain acts as a backup if your trailer becomes disconnected from your tow vehicle. Attach the middle link of this zinc-coated steel chain to your trailer's coupler, and then hook the S-hooks to your hitch.

Hi there, safety-conscious haulers. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at Curt's dual S hook safety chain. These are available with either a 2,000 or 5,000 pound capacity, and both are gonna come in about four foot in length. This is an all-in-one safety chain solution for your trailer. So, you're gonna get one chain that has S links on each side. And is designed to take the center of the chain and attach it to a single point here on your trailer.
You can either weld the links on, or you could bolt it in place, or one quick way to get the chain attached to your trailers, to use D links, and that's what we ended up using today was just a couple of D links to attach our chain to it. You can get these quick links here at etrailer. And I do highly recommend those. They really make hooking safety cables to your trailer a whole lot easier. The links on our chain are gonna have a zinc plated coating on them to help protect against rust and corrosion.
So, this way, we don't have to worry about our chains succumbing to oxidation in the near future, which can weaken the links over time. So, if you got that coating on there, it's just gonna extend the life of our components here, making them last many years in service. On the ends, we'll have our S hooks attached on each side of the chain. And this gives us a quick and easy way to attach it to the safety cable attachments at the back of our vehicle. The S hooks should work with just about every shape, size and style of safety chain attachment.
There's a nice large opening here. And it's a small enough hook to where it should fit in even those smaller pesky hitches. But the opening's large enough for those thicker beefier hitches that have a very high rating on them as well. So, this way, you don't have to worry about having a small trailer that you wanna hook to your big truck and your chain's not gonna attach. You should have no problem with those bigger hitches as well.
Now, typically, these chains are designed to be attached to a single point. And when you have it attached to a single point, you would just wanna hook your chains up. But if you're hooking it up with quick links like we are and if you've got one on each side of the chain, you always wanna cross your chains. And that's only an option that you'll have when it can get up like we are here with one on each side. And crossing it will act as a cradle, so in the event of a catastrophic disconnect, it'll hold our trailer up off the pavement. If you just have a single attachment point there, you can't really cross the chain, so you don't get that feature. That's another reason why I do like having quick links. And that completes our look at Curt's dual S hook safety chain..

These are great. Nice clips on ends for attaching. Love the coating on the chains, look much better than my old ones. I do not care for cables, feel much better with chains.
Besides the Curt safety chain which measured 46 1/2" (not the original 48"), all the other products are good high quality products and match the descriptions.
Ordered safety chains for my boat trailer. No problems, easy order, came on time and were exactly as described. I will use etrailer again in the future.
Package took 11 days to get to my residence which is located 26 miles from etrailer. The delivery driver said "it's a little banged up". It looked like it fell off a yak while it was traversing the switchbacks of the Himalayans etrailer could have done a better job in packaging.
Pretty much as expected. No surprises.

The chain, as measured from tip to tip of S hooks, is 46" long - not 48" as advertised. It's a minor discrepancy and will still work for me, but Curt should correct this with their supplier.
Wonderful tow chain. I am updating/adding items to my european imported trailer. The original chain wouldn't hold a chihuahua! This little number is strong, and beautiful. I highly recommend.
