Speaker 1: Today on our 2018 Toyota Tacoma we're gonna be test fitting the Rhino-Rack Vortex aero roof rack system consisting of part numbers RRVA137B-2. These are the Vortex aero crossbars, 54 inches long and black, these also come in silver as part number RRVA137S-2. We'll also be using part number RRRLKVA and these will be 2500 series legs for the Vortex aero crossbars, particularly for naked roofs or fixed mounting points. We'll also be using part number DK174 and this is the custom fit kit for the Tacoma. The Rhino-Rack Vortex aero roof rack system is great for carrying a wide variety of accessories on your roof for your Tacoma and also serve as an extension if you we're to have a ladder rack installed in the truck bed. This roof rack system is very easy to install, it simply clamps around your existing door frame and all the measurements are gonna be in the instructions that you need to install this. Now it's gonna be fixed in this position so any accessories you may have double check with the crossbar spread to make sure it's gonna work with that.
The bars do have an elliptical shape to them and that coupled with the Vortex aero strip as well as the measurement strip that we cut to length that goes up underneath the bar, that's gonna cut down the wind noise and drag while you drive. One thing that the customers have brought to our attention when removing our end cap here you'll see that we have an open space here on the other side of our leg. What happens is that creates a little bit of a whistling sound when you're going down the highway or around after 45 miles per hour. What you can do is with the left over strip that you have after cutting it to length underneath, you slip that in to the empty slot and cut that to length to take up that gap or you can take left over Vortex aero strip from the top after you've cut that to length as well and put that underneath and that'll take care of that sound. Also with our end cap off you can see that we accept T-track accessories on the top side here. What you would do is you remove the Vortex aero strip, insert the T-track accessory, cut the strip to length, and replace it around it to keep that noise down. With our end cap it does come with a special tool to secure it in place.
This can be knocked out and replaced with a lock which you can find on etrailer.com to secure your roof rack to the vehicle. Also at the end of our legs here it does come with a lock already to help secure it in that portion.Next I'd like to give you a couple quick measurements. From the center of the roof to the bottom of the bar is gonna be about two and five-eighth inches. From the center to the top is gonna be about three and seven-eighth inches. That's more than enough space in between the roof rack and the roof itself for those accessories that wrap around the bars instead of going in their T-track accessories where it won't make any contact or damage your roof.
The weight capacity with the two bars combined is gonna be 165 pounds which you always want to double check with your vehicle's manual to make sure your roof can withstand those weights. Now that we've gone over some of the features of the roof rack system let's go ahead and show you how it installs. We already have our front bar installed on our truck, we have our second bar our rear bar partially assembled on our table here. Our first step is we're gonna take our 2500 series leg and start installing it on the other side. First you want to make sure that this top portion is loose because this portion is gonna be sliding in to our slot underneath our bar. We'll line it up and slide it into place.Next we'll take a measurement from this point to our bar.
Now normally we'd use our strip here with the measurement in the instructions, cut it to length, and that would take up this empty space here on the bar but for demonstration purposes we'll go ahead and leave that out. Once that is found we'll go to our screw in the center here and take our included tool and tighten that down to the bar.Next we'll start installing our custom fit kit. The rubber pads for the bottom are labeled and have an arrow facing a proper direction and again you'll find that in the instructions. Looking on the underside of it you can see it's gonna match up with our pad here so you simply just set it in place and push it down until it fits. Next we'll take our clamp and install that on the end here. We'll remove our screw here at the end here completely and we'll line up our clamp and loosely install the screw back into place just to hold it there while we install it onto our roof. Our final step is to install our end cap to our bar here, take our included tool here to tighten it up, now it can't be removed. Now we'll open up the rear doors of our truck and install the other half of our roof rack. Next we'll measure from center to center of the bars to get our crossbars spread even on both sides as well. We'll take our clamp, push it up against our doorframe here, take our included tool, and we'll just snug it up against the door frame on both drivers and passengers sides and then we'll go back and forth tightening them down evenly until their nice and torqued down on our roof and they're not going anywhere. Now as we tighten this down about five or six turns each side I would like to point out that the tool here is a torquing tool, meaning with a curve here as your tighten it down that's gonna start to straighten out, so you tighten it down with your thumb, and once it's completely straight as you tighten it that means it's ready to go and you don't need to tighten it anymore. It's designed to make sure you don't over or under tighten the clamps to the roof rack system which is actually pretty neat. The final step is gonna be installing our end caps to the end and locking them down. We'll do this on both sides and then we're ready to load up our gear and hit the road. There you have it for the Rhino-Rack Vortex aero roof rack system on our 2018 Toyota Tacoma.

This custom fit kit lets you mount 4 Rhino-Rack 2500 legs to your vehicle with a naked roof. Clamps mount to legs with bolts. Includes 4 clamps and 4 pads.I love the racks. The only thing I'm concerned is the the measurement for the front rack. It's sitting about 2/3 on the metal part of the roof of the cab with instruction measurement of 165 mm. So far it working alright or should i make adjustment for a flush fit. Photos will show.
These came as part of a 3-piece package for a roof rack. They were very well made and I would buy these again. See my full review of the Rhino Rack.
This kit fit my existing Rhino 2500 rack system and allowed me to move the rack from my Ford Escape to my Toyota Tacoma.
Great product with minimal noise/vibration
No problem carrying a 13 ft kayak and salt water fishing rods
Very pleased and would recommend!
LEGS GOING TO AERO BARS ARE STILL LOOKING GOOD AFTER 1 YEAR.
The products are of high quality, look great, function great and is easy to install.
Hudge disappointment. The way Rhino pre assembles the legs allows the nuts, washers and bolts to come loose during shipping. I was missing several pieces upon arrival because they feel out of the box. I called Etrailer about this and they were very pleasant over the phone and said they would ship the missing hardware to me Monday. After a week of waiting, I called back and they said they didn't know when they could ship the hardware because of back orders. I wish they would have notified me about this earlier because it has effected our big Maine trip and now we can't take the kayaks. They have left me no time to make a plan B unless I just buy another rack from a box store.
And outstanding rack for the value half the price of other major brands, but definitely just as good, and I’ve owned quite a few roof rack systems over the years!
Stacey was great, located what I needed, and got it to me in record time-in time for the trip
I carefully followed the instructions and didn’t have any issues. I drove from Amelia Island Florida to Upstate NY with a standup paddle board on the roof with no problems. The rack was very stable.
I don't use the roof racks often but they work well when I do
The quality of material was excellent. The instructions were perfect and I had no problems with the installation. Will be trying them out with my canoe on a camping trip this weekend and don't expect any problems.
Fit well and was easy to assemble.
Perfect on my Tacoma 2006
Great video instruction on installation. Love the quality.
I haven’t even installed the roof rack yet, I wanted to get on here and give you guys major kudos. Mariah was amazingly helpful Going through all three part numbers that made up my kit and indicating potential lead times prior to ordering. She was friendly and just made the whole experience a nice one. The items shipped the next day when I wasn’t expecting them to ship for at least a week. Highly recommend these great folks! Keep it up, this is the type of stuff that keeps America great in my opinion.
The roof rack did not work well for us because I have a bad shoulder and that made it difficult for us to take our canoe directly off the rack on the cab of our truck. Nothing wrong with the product, just our limitations.
My Rhino-Rack arrived in a very short period of time. All items were clearly marked and packaged exactly as described. I have yet to install the rack simply because I haven't had time, but the equipment is quality, sleek and the customer service was stellar!
Well built kit and it looks great installed. I wanted good looking, strong ladder/cargo rack for my Tacoma and this kit was perfect. Good installation instructions.
great !! had a little problem putting bars together, lining up on roof per instructions.
so I did items way on roof, lined up by eye and measuring tape. Whole process was done in a couple of hours. its solid, looks great and can't wait to use it. the delivery was earlier than expected. thanks for the follow up.
Assembly was very easy but steps one and two were confusing as legs were made for the euro crossbar. Fit perfectly on cab of Tacoma.
Good sturdy product. Installation instructions were a little confusing in some parts, but nothing too complicated that I couldn't figure out. Order came fast, impressed with the quality and price, and looks awesome on my truck.
Easy and fun to assemble and put on my Tacoma. Looks great.
Great roof rack. Super fast shipping.
does what it's supposed to do. good qua lity
