Video Transcript for SmartStraps Carbon-X Ratchet Tie-Down Straps with Double J-Hooks Review

Hey guys, it's Randy here at etrailer.com. Today. We're going to be taking a look at some straps from cargo smart. It's going to be inch and a half wide, medium to heavier duty straps, 14 feet long. And they're going to have a safe working load limit of 1,667 pounds. So makes some very well suited for a lot of different applications in your small, medium and even larger trailers, enclosed trailers, pickup, truck beds, things like that.

I think you'll find them really handy. And we're going to have one, you can see the one we've got on the front of the quad here. Now, it's going to be a camouflage strap with a cammo flat as ratchet. And if you're not trying to sneak up on anything, we're also going to have one with kind of a carbon fiber finish with the yellow strap. A little bit more visibility on this one.Outside of that, they're identically the same.

All the features, all the functions are going to be the same. So let's go take a look at the ratchet on the cammo one. I'll tell you what I like, I'll tell you what I don't like. And then we can move on to kind of figuring out how it works and how that ratchet mechanism works and stuff like that. Now, the overall strap material is I think is very nice.

It has the somewhat smooth type rather than it being more coarse, it's a polyester, very durable, very abrasion resistant. And the size of the handle I like a lot. And see as we open it up, it's nice and large. You get plenty of room to get your fingers in there. Its about three is what you're looking at.

Our release is nice, you can see that's going to be right here, plastic covering on it.Kind of protect your fingers. But if you look in the ratchet mechanism, the steel portion only comes up about midway. It's going to end there, that leaves us with the plastic on the rest of it. I think that's going to be pretty durable, it's something that's going to hold up for a while, but I would imagine if you're into kind of throw them around here, there, a lot of times you throw them off on the ground or something like that. If you're a little bit rougher with stuff, I think I'd go with something different. Maybe like the etrailer four-pack strap set that we've got. It doesn't have quite the safe working load limit as this one but it does seem to be more durable. I'd kind of lean that way. I like the finish on it you know cammo, you're going to be using on your hunting full wheel or something, I guess that's nice.Or if you go with the carbon fiber look, it looks a little bit nicer but it doesn't add a whole lot of effectiveness to the strap and it doesn't necessarily make the strap any better. It just appears a little bit nicer. Now, unlike the cammo strap, this one does have a keeper on it. I like that. And if I we're going to pick either using that cammo one or this one, I would go with this one. But we want to just get the middle of our rash where we can see right through the center slit there. At that point, we'll push that strap through it now. That keeper does make it a little bit more difficult but it comes through there fairly easy. We're just going to loop that right back over the top. We can pull our slack out and that's what lets us adjust the link. And once we've got that slack pulled up, this one use a ratchet handle, get it nice and secure. At that point, we're ready to tidy up our excess. And this is really the biggest aggravation to using straps, getting these secured off nice. So that's why I appreciate that this has the keeper on it. Just put it down there and we'll use that to wrap around. And once we get that nice and snug, we won't have to worry about that going anywhere. Now, the hooks I really like on these straps, it's a double J hook design, so that's going to give us superior strength and durability. Single piece comes around, it's going to have a little weld there at the end. And they're held by an inch and a half inside there to get around these larger items even like this big D-ring, very easy to get them around and secure. And the only thing I would really want these to have on the hook side would be a keeper.A lot of them will have a little spring keeper on there, where once you hook them around they'll stay attached even if you don't have tension on them. If you've used straps before you know that a lot of times you'll hook that side up, you get over here, mess with your ratchet. And then by the time you get everything connected here that one's come off, you'll have to go re-hook it. So if it had keepers, I'd like them more. I like the way the hooks are but I think that would be one addition they could put on it to make it just a little bit better. So as you can see guys, I think this is a nice solid set of straps. Like I said before, I think if you really beat these things up and you're always throwing them around or something like that, you might have some issues with cracking or breaking that handle. But outside of that, I think they'll do a good job. We've got plenty of capacity to them, 1,667 pounds for something that's nice and small and compact like this, I really like. So I think you'll like them, as long as you don't throw them around too much.
