  • Spring-loaded Web Clamp holds excess strap neatly in place on the ratchet handle
    • Helps prevent unused strap from tangling or flapping in the wind
  • Ratchet mechanism makes it easy to tighten down strap and maintains tension on strap
    • Long, wide handle offers a good grip
  • Heat-treated, deburred low carbon steel ratchet is plated with yellow dichromate for corrision resistance
  • Double J-hooks anchor the strap to tie-down points

Specs:

  • Strap dimensions: 2" wide x 30' long
  • Safe working load limit (WLL): 3,300 lbs
  • Maximum load (break strength): 10,000 lbs
  • Quantity: 1 ratchet strap

Note: Tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the straps being used. For example, if you are using straps with a WLL of 500 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 1,000 lbs, then you need at least 2 straps to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

Video Transcript for Erickson Ratchet Tie-Down Strap Review

Randy: Hey guys. Randy here etrailer.com.Today we're going to be taking a look at a heavy duty ratchet strap from Erickson. Now this ratchet strap's going to be absolutely one of my favorites. I own the set of straps and I really like it mainly because it has all the functions we typically expect out of a heavy duty strap. But it offers this web clamp. This is a nice heavy duty steel plastic top catch, for our excess strap. See it's got teeth right in here, comes down grips on there, and it's going to prevent that strap from coming out as we head down the road.

Now with the strap out of the way, we can get a better look at the ratcheting mechanism itself.Got a nice wide grip here, but this isn't a rubberized grip but I liked the grooves. And so, I don't know if you can see that, but there are some nice deep grooves all the way around this handle. So while it doesn't have the rubberized grip effect, it gives us something nice to hang on to. And you really don't see a difference between this and a rubber handle, except maybe comfort. The release handle's here. It's easy to get to nice and large and open.

So even if you're dealing with gloves, you shouldn't have an issue with getting your hand in there and getting it connected.Just like any other ratchet strap. If we push this all the way open, it's going to release the tension. We'll take a look at that now. At that point pull on the back there, it's going to relax that strap there, it'll allow you get connected or disconnected. To secure it back down, we're going to get that, that full open position, your handle's going to lock open.

We'll bring it to that middle position that allows us to torque down.Once we get the torque that we weren't, pull out on that release and move it all the way down to the closed position. You can see that's going to lock that handle in place. We don't have to worry about it coming undone, and that's a position it would be in as we travel. Now Erickson's put a yellow zinc finish top to bottom on the mechanisms here. That way we won't have to worry about rust. We're not going to have to worry about it binding up in here and our ratchet not working.

I've been using mine four or five years now, and really don't have any issues with the rust of whatsoever. The strap material itself is going to be two inches wide and it's 30 foot in length. So this is going to be great for just about any size load you're trying to secure. And it's really heavy duty transition, it's got a little bit of flex there to it. So it lays around things really nicely.Something else I really liked, you'll notice one side's going to be printed, it has a safe working load limit right there printed on it, so you won't have any questions on the other side is not. The reason I like that is because as we go from one side to the other, these straps worked best if we have them nice and flat. As they feed into the ratchet, we don't want it to get twisted. That takes up excess room that we don't need to take an up. So that being printed on one side, not on the other. We can ensure as we run our straps, we're running it the right way. As we feed it through our ratchet, it's going to bind up on us.Now this Jack offers the double J hook style of hook. I like it 'cause we've got two significant and thick pieces of steel going down around and making our connection. Rather than an S hook where we'll just have one. This is also going to have the yellow zinc finish on it. This type of hooks is going to be on both ends, so even they're really not going to have to worry about any type of corrosion or anything like that. Now when talking about weight limits with our stress, we always go off the safe working load limit. In our case here, it's 3,300 pounds. That's going to be really high up there. That's about as high as you'll see most ratchet straps. That's why we call these in a nice big heavy duty ones. When using straps though you always want to use them in pairs. So, we wouldn't want to secure a UTV down here with just one. We'd want to use at least two. So if one fails, we'll have a backup. Now when we compare these ratchet straps to other heavy duty ratchet straps like them. They share so many similarities that the only real difference that you're going to have is that strap keeper, or that web clamp. It makes a huge difference. That's why it's there. Generally, you're going to have to tie off the excess. If you're knot doesn't hold, it winds up whipping down the road behind you. Either causing damage to it or fraying, something like that. With this, you're able to wad it up, stick it in there, clamp it down. You really won't have to worry about it.Now to get your strap installed, we're going to start with a disassembled so you can see how it goes together. We want to start with our ratchet handle open. Kind of just like that or even all the way like that. You can see the center barrel here, there's going to be that slit in it. You want to make sure that's kinda running straight. We're going to bring our strap in and then loop it back around. We'll show you that now.So we'll come back to the end of our strap. And remember we talked about the one side printed one side, not. I liked that 'cause we know that this is going to be the upside of our strap, so keep it facing up as we run it through our ratchet. Goes right through that slit, like we said. In, loop it over and then by pulling on the end of that, that's how we'll get all that slack out of it.Once that slacks out, we'll take our J hook. You want to hook it off to your connection point there. Pull all the tension we can then send to use that ratchet handle. It's a good link. Allows us to get plenty of leverage down on the item. Pull that, bring it down, into lock position. All we'll have to do now is tidy up our excess strap.I've just taken my tag in, looped it over through my J hook and brought it back. It's going to get rid of most of that extra slack. The rest of it, we're going to put right here in our strap keeper. To do that, we just need to get these folded up. Kind of like that. Up, pull the strap through. Let that come back down. It's a good hold of it. Going to be nice and secure. At this point. Just use the appropriate number of straps. Get everything secured down. You're going to be ready to hit the road.

  • Dimensions of the Hooks and Handle on the Erickson Ratchet Strap # 58510
  • I pulled one of the Erickson Ratchet Strap # 58510 from our warehouse, and the inside diameter of the hook is 1 inch, therefore the radius of the hook is 1/2 inch, and the length of the ratcheting handle is 8-3/4 inches. Additionally the thickness of the hook is 7/8 of an inch. I have included a photo showing these dimensions for your reference. • Best Way to Carry the Max Amount of Hay Bales in a Short Bed Truck
  • As someone who has thrown quite a bit of hay in his lifetime I can say that all you really need to transport a lot of hay is quality ratchet straps and proper stacking techniques. And for straps, all you really need is 2 of them. If you try an build a cage around the truck bed you will actually limit the amount of bales you can transport since having the overhang the bed rails a bit is the best way to maximize how many you can carry. Since you have a short bed what you will want to do...

  • Ratchet Strap with Keepers Recommendation
  • Keepers are basically metal prongs that are in the opening of the hook on the ends of the straps that act as a mechanism that helps secure the strap to the surface that they attach to. A lot of times when you are trying to use ratchet straps it is difficult to keep the hook of the strap from popping out of place when ratcheting. The keepers help prevent that by putting a little tension in the hook so it stays in place. See the picture to the right for more clarification. We can offer...
