Will Lippert Pull-Out Steps Work for You?

Pull-out steps are typically installed on travel trailers. The pull-out steps from Lippert are easy to install and fold up underneath the camper for simple storage. To ensure you choose the correct size for your application, there are a few measurements you will need to take.

Lippert Manual Mounting

The Lippert pull-out steps attach the underside of the camper chassis, directly beneath the doorway. To decide which size you'll need, locate the space available underneath your camper that lines up with the door frame, and measure the width and depth. You will need a mounting space that is at least 25-1/2" wide and 12" deep.

If it turns out you have more or less space beneath your doorway, there are other step assemblies available with bracket sizes ranging from 25-1/2" wide to 28" wide. A full list of the available steps is below.

RV Steps Outriggers

Outriggers - metal brackets that act as an extension (LC301704 - sold separately) - may be needed for installation depending on the model of your original stairs. These provide extra length if the old steps are longer or wider than the new.

Once you know where the mounting bracket will go and what size mounting bracket you need, that spot will be used as the "mounting point" to determine how many steps you will need.

How Many Steps Do You Need?

Lippert Manual Entry Height

To determine how many steps you'll need, measure from the mounting point to the ground. This is called the entry height. The entry height should roughly match the height of the steps when they're fully extended, plus 6" to 9" to account for the drop from the bottom step to the ground. This measurement will also tell you how many steps you need.

The chart below displays entry height measurements in the first column. If you determined you need a 25-1/2" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the second column. If you determined you need a 25-3/4" mounting bracket, the step part numbers with that width are in the third column. The steps for 27-1/2" mounting bracket widths are in the fourth column, and the steps for 28" mounting bracket widths are in the fifth column. Choose the bracket size that is closest to your measurements without going over.

This page's step assembly is in bold text.

How Do You Install the Steps?

To install the steps:

  1. Make sure the camper is level on flat ground
  2. Lift the steps into the mounting space and prop into place
  3. If needed, mark the mounting holes on the camper and drill

    -Set aside steps before drilling

  4. If needed, install the outriggers
  5. Align step mounting holes and secure in place with bolts and flange lock nuts

-Make sure the bracket is backed up fully against the I-beam on the chassis

    -Hardware not included

  6. Tighten hardware until snug
  7. Make sure assembly is sitting square and level
  8. Torque the hardware to 20 ft-lbs

Great fit works as described very fast shipping Will purchase futher parts from etrailer

Great no rust steps are looking as new as when delivered
David M - 06/28/2021

- LC432682

I like the steps, especially having changed from a single step to a double step. This was one of the few steps that only had a 7" rise (necessary since my camper sits low) and could be mounted with very few modifications. The steps do have a bit of flex to them, but nothing that is too aggravating or dangerous. Etrailer continues to do as they have in the past with a good product and on time (many times before time) deliveries. I would recommend these steps and etrailer!

Steps are great. I would have no problem with these steps again if I screwed them up.

I had no problems with etrailer ordering or shipping. Everything went smoothly. I have one complaint about this manufacturer as well as the others. None of them include detailed information about mounting. Not even the overall width of the units is given and the installation manual is of no use. A previous customer had asked about this unit and etrailer’s response helped me to choose this unit.

That is frustrating. Here is a video with some information about your steps they start measuring around the 2:22 mark:

Excellent replacement steps at a super great price. And they were shipped fast and free. The shipping should have cost more than I paid all total.

Still looking good

I have a 2017 RPod 180 and needed to change the one step to two steps after my wife’s knee replacement this past month. This part seemed to match closer to the current 25 7/8” width of the existing step. These steps are 25 1/2” so needed a few washers to space out. I replaced the 3/8” carriage bolt from 1” long to 1 1/2” long on one side. Reused the original on the other side. To fit this in the space I had to notch the steps at the back to fit around the frame beam. No impact on function. The steps were not fitting up to the current intended notch so I added another notch to lock them in the new position. I set the steps all the way up against the frame. This minimized the reduction in ground clearance as well as reducing the top step rise. It did require drilling new holes in the original supports. Ground clearance is ~9”. Was 10”.

I am very satisfied with etrailer's quick response to my needs and the product has served me very well since I put it in use a year ago. Highly recommended.

The Lippert dual RV Steps appear well made and well finished, and are pre-assembled (requiring only installation onto the RV). Instructions provided are clear and concise. I will be using these to replace an original equipment single step which was insufficient in height for the RV.

Still performing very well. No problens.

Rodney C - 12/19/2019

Steel will have the tendency to do that and it sucks. But we do have other step options available that will be aluminum on the mechanical parts so there will be no problem with smooth operation for a extended length of time. I've linked an option that may work for you.

I ordered an incorrectly sized pull out RV step. etrailer staff (George & Ashley) went out of their way to expedite an RA and let me use UPS return shipping at half the price I would have paid as a private individual to return the steps. Meanwhile I ordered this Lippert 2 step pull out and it mounted easily to my Scamper Kodiak by swapping OEM hangers from left to right in order to widen the mount to accommodate this step frame. Took 10 minutes to install. These steps are quite heavy duty and well constructed with Mfg. attention to design details like the no slip stair tread and rain/dirt integrated channels with drain holes, The extended and stowed positions have a positive and simply designed lock notch that ensures safety when extended or stowed for travel. I've been an etrailer customer for years because frankly they never backorder based on my experience, their install videos and staff knowledge is unsurpassed and the staff is just plain bend over backwards nice!

The steps continue to meet our needs. Very sturdy, easy to retro fit mount. Very pleased with the purchase and product.

Good product quality. A direct replacement for the original steps. I would purchase this product again.

- LC432682

Uhhh...wow! thanks for the follow up. So far, it's A+++ for customer service. I destroyed my rv steps taking a turn to tightly. There was a fair sized rock on the corner, so- demolished my steps. I ordered these as a replacement. Pulled 'em out of the box first thing when I got home, and the measurements with old stairs seem exact, even down to the bolt hole spread and size. I"ll know more this weekend when I actually try and install them (have to bang out the mounting plates to make those straight again). If nothing else, will definitely post about the customer service- you guys were excellent. I'm hoping to have a pic with the new stairs mounted (that means everything went well) :-)

Still works great! Would maybe buy a different brand, but...would get it through etrailer. You guys are great.

Great product, super fast shipping and great prices. Works great for my application with very little modification, to replace my one step with two.

- LC432682

look very good have not had time to ins tall

- LC432682

Steps look great. I am going to have to make some modifications on them because the mounting brackets on my trailer have a different bolt pattern and are wider apart then these steps, but could not find any 2 step that were the same size as the original single step.

Have worked great, my wife has been able to access the trailer easily Have been from Va. to Ark, and back and no trouble..

- LC432682

Thanks for sending the stairs promptly. I installed them with not too much difficulty. They are more difficult to operate than the ones I replaced. But they seem to be well Built and sturdy. Thanks again.

- LC432682

Good product, strong, looks good. Makes entry and exit SO much easier. Had to drill a couple extra holes, and cut a tiny strip of alum skirt next to step. ( no big deal) Install took about an hour. Happy I purchased this product. Shipping was fast and product was as described.

good product, has held up well. 2 steps are much easier than a single step.
Fred - 07/03/2019

- LC432682

Bought this to gain an extra step after lifting my travel trailer (ground clearance was awful before). It serves this purpose well. The bad- one of the support arms was bent out of the box. In bending it back the paint started chipping off. Then noticed paint coming off along every flat edge underneath. Also all of the pivot points were rusty out of the box. I also replaced the grip tape as it came off the steps after sitting in the sun a bit. Decided to just use a wire wheel on the whole thing and repainted it. I don't know if this was a return or what. I understand this is probably the cheapest double step on the site, but still isn't exactly dirt cheap. Maybe pass on this one or at least THOROUGHLY inspect before altering it in any way (I had to drill two new mounting holes and did that before I really inspected it). Never had a problem with etrailer products before so I'm going to call it a fluke.

- LC432682

The product was good quality however it was the wrong size step . Was disappointed with that issue after all I had talked in length with the manufacturer of this step along with etrailer and was assured it would fit mistakes happen but was disappointed when I had to bear the shipping cost and was given in store credit instead of a refund that being said I have ordered from etrailer in the past and have found great service and products this has been my only disappointment

- LC432682

A step above!

- LC432682

Great purchase experience. Steps were exactly as expected. Tried hard to find replacement for Toy Hauler steps that would be a direct bolt on & I succeeded. Bolt pattern exactly the same as existing. Remove & replace could not have been easier except for the challenge of getting new steps into position to insert the 4 bolts. Probably could be easier with an extra set of hands but still doable alone. Used box it came in and some stacked 2x4 to elevate and hold in position. New steps seem well made. I'm being nit-picky with 4 stars instead of 5 for 2 reasons. Folding and unfolding steps requires a little more effort than I'd like. My wife might not be happy. Old steps seemed to operate more easily. Perhaps time to break in and maybe some lubricant will improve. Also, these steps, while never feeling unsure or unsafe, are not rock solid rigid. If you're a big guy you'll feel a hint of give. In all fairness, they're the same as the steps they replaced. Perhaps one of the step support devices available would help. I suppose I traded the chance of finding steps that were more solid feeling for the chance to have an easy replacement experience. Other options may have required some new bolt hole drilling or other mods. Did not want a project. All things considered, I would still consider the steps and etrailer as a definite recommend.

- LC432682

We ordered the (2) step ladder for outside our trailer. Thanks to our new steps it is a breeze getting into the tailer, love them. The only thing I have to say UPS delivered the order left the box in the drizzling rain in the driveway. I had to walk it to my front porch, to heavy for me to pick up. UPS has been notified, thought you should know. Didn't ring the bell or knock on the door. I'm 79 years old
