Mounting Lippert Double Steps on Shasta Freeport Motorhome

Question:
We are replacing our stock 24 inch single step with a Lippert # LC432682 double step to our 2001 29 foot Shasta Freeport Class C motorhome. Unfortunately, the original step was mounted with 3 inch bolt holes and the new steps have 7 inch bolt holes. Upon extensive research of double step mfrs, it appears that there are no double steps available with 3 inch bolt holes, leaving us with 2 options. Drill new holes in the double step at 3 inch to accommodate the 3 inch bolt pattern or, grind off the existing rear studs and weld new studs at 7 inch spacing. I'm concerned that, if we use the 3 inch bolt spacing, the steps might be susceptible to flex or bounce. Maybe we could add a 25 inch x 4 inch gusset plate with appropriate bolt hole pattern mounted between the step flange and the securing nuts to provide more rigidity? This would be the easiest option since we don't have to grind and weld but, as I said, Im concerned about the rigidity of the double steps, especially on the lowest step. I would appreciate any comments that would help us decide. Thx very much.

I have a solution to help you install your Lippert Manual Double Step # LC432682. While your gusset plate idea would work, if you are concerned with stability I recommend using the Lippert Outriggers # LC301704 to help you mount the steps to your motorhome. The outriggers attach to the steps and the frame of your motorhome; mounting hardware # LC118155-72 will give you the correct bolts for assembly.
