Video Transcript for Camco RV Wiring - Power Adapter - CAM55025 Review

Today were going to review part #: CAM55025. This is the Camco Powergrip RV power maximizer. What this maximizer will allow you to do is when you pull into an RV park and you might have an option of a 15 amp or a 30 amp electrical outlet and your RV has a 50 amp power cord what you can end up doing, you can plug this female end right here and thats to your RVs 50 amp power plug and then with these two ends that are divided off here you could actually, instead of getting one or the other, if you plug both these in you can get a 45 amps of combined power. This male end right here is 15 amps. This one right here, this 30 amp male end will plug into a 30 amp receptacle. If you plug both of these in at the RV park you can get a combined 45 amps going to your RV instead of having to just choose between one or the other.

As you can see on this end and on this one right here there are built in handles. What thatll allow you to do on these connectors is when you plug these in some times, when you go to unplug them theyre a little hard to pull out. With these handles right here, this Powergrip handle will allow you to pull these connections out a lot easier. As youll notice, all the connectors on here, the female and the two male ends, are yellow in color, very bright yellow. Thatll make it easy to see if youre in any low light conditions when you pull into the RV park.

That should do it for the review on part #: CAM55025, the Camco Powergrip RV power maximizer. .

I bought this Camco Power Grip a year ago and have used it daily for eight of the last 12 months. I have a 50 amp RV and am plugged into a 30 amp service and would often kick the breaker with routine use. I was limited on the use of electrical appliances. Since purchasing the Power Grip I have much better use of my electrical system. I can even run both AC units at the same time which I have done occasionally. I highly recommend this product. 547660

Never worked correctly like advertised always tripped breakers where ever it was hooked up. Also have a surge protector on the camper and these two products are not compatible with each other. Waste of money 674362

This is a great alternative to the 30 to 50 amp dogbone that I already own. For those times when I need (or want) to run the AC, microwave, water heater and fridge at the same time and only have a 30 amp connection available this will come in handy. I've run a separate 15 amp extension cord a couple of times to set up an outside kitchen and I don't think I've ever found a 30 amp plug without the 15 amp sockets right there too. As long as they're not GFCI this cable will give me 45 amps in the trailer when there's no 50 amp connection. Or - like last year on New Years Eve when the 50 amp circuit only had one side working - and you're forced to use the 30 amp socket or nothing at all. 559132

Comments
Even better now that I carry a 15 amp socket. I can change out the GFCI outlet if thats all thats available and change it back before I leave, of course . Thanks John G. For the hint...

I haven’t used my power grip yet but I bought it because my uncle has one. It works great we were camping and the campsite only had 30amp hookup. My RV has a 50amp plug and I used a 30amp adapter but the power kept shutting off. My uncle used his power grip adapter and he didn’t have any problems. That’s why I purchased my own. Everyone should have one who does RV camping. Thanks 518015

I have found that the majority of campgrounds have GFCI circuits for their 20 amp service. This device will not work with a GFCI plug so actually it can’t be used very often. That does not negate that it appears to be well made and will work under the right conditions.

  • Recommended Generator Kit and Power Adapter for 50 Amp RV System
Unfortunately we do not carry the adapter you are looking for, but I do have another option for you. My recommendation is to use a Power Grip RV Power Maximizer - 50 Amp Female to 15 Amp Male and 30 Amp Male # CAM55025 to get a generator to give you 45 amps to your 50 amp RV input. Most generators have this power ability and setup. If your combination won't allow this, I recommend the A-iPower Inverter Generators w/ Parallel Kit - Senci Motor - Portable - Gas - 120V - 3,800 Watts...

  • Connecting 50 Amp Electrical of 2019 Thor Challenger to Regular Electric Outlet for Storage Power
From your outlet, you will first use the Mighty Cord Dogbone RV Power Cord Adapter - 50 Amp Female to 15 Amp Male - 12" # A10-1550VP or the Power Grip RV Power Maximizer # CAM55025 and then the circuit protector # CAM55306 to protect your RV electrical system followed by the 50 amp power cable to your RV. There is nothing you need to do differently inside your RV as it is already designed for your refrigerator and other appliances to function.

  • Recommended 30 Amp Supply To 50 Amp RV Adapter And Surge Protector
For your 2018 Wildcat 262RGX with 50 amp service, I recommend the Camco RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer Dogbone - 125V - 50 Amp # CAM55313. This will prevent your system from a surge that could hurt your trailer's electrical components. This needs to be run behind your adapter when using a 30 amp service, but can be plugged directly into your power supply when a 50 amp service is available. For your adapter, I recommend the Power Grip RV Power Maximizer - 50 Amp Female to 15 Amp...

  • How Big Of a Generator Is Needed for 50 Amps
In order to get 50 amps you will need around a 10,000 wattt generator like the Firman 10,000-Watt Portable Generator part # 333-P08003 which is what I recommend. This generator actually has a 50 amp service port so you would not need any sort of adapter like the Power Grip RV Power Maximizer part # CAM55025 to plug your shore power cord into this.

  • Will 15 Amp Plug Be Energized When 30 Amp Plug Is Connected on # CAM55025?
The Power Grip RV Power Maximizer - 50 Amp Female to 15 Amp Male and 30 Amp Male # CAM55025 has independent wiring connected to the 50 amp Female end. When you plug in the 30 amp male, there will not be 30 amps of power going to the smaller 3 prong male connector as that would give you a live circuit exposed to the elements. The nice thing is that when there is a 15amp circuit available that is not GFI, then you can send 45 amps to your 50 amp system. If you just need the converter...

  • Power Maximizer Recommendation for an RV with a 50 amp Receptacle
The Power Grip RV Power Maximizer # CAM55025 that you referenced will plug into the 30 amp receptacle as well as a 15 amp receptacle and will give you a combined 45 amp on a 50 amp power plug. I wish we had a version that gave you a 30 amp plug like you need. I know it' probably annoying but the only advice I could give you would be to wait till your AC is not running to run your microwave.

  • Do 15amp and 30amp Circuits have to be In Phase to Work Properly
Since the 15 amp plug and 30 amp plug both feed into the single 50 amp plug on Power Grip RV Power Maximizer # CAM55025 you would want both the 15 and 30 amp connections to both be single phase or 3 phase, whatever it happens to be. I suspect that if the 15 and 30 amp service outlets were installed at the same time then you would be good to go but if one was added at a later date you would have to inquire with the caretaker of the camp ground. Most likely camp grounds are going to use 3...

  • Can 15 Amp Plug Be Used Without 30 Amp On Camco Power Grip RV Power Maximizer
The Camco Power Grip RV Power Maximizer, part # CAM55025 can be used with the 110 plug only or with the 30 Amp plug only, or with both when you have the receptacles available. Using just the plug in a 110 receptacle will limit the input to 15 amps so you may have issues if you are trying to use any items that require more power. Based on the connectors I see on the side of your generator the Power Grip RV Power Maximizer - 50 Amp Female to 15 Amp Male and 30 Amp Male # CAM55025 will work to combine to a 50 amp connector. An AC unit that is rated for 8,000 BTU draws up to 1,800 watts when starting and 1,200 when running. Looks like your generator is 3,000 watts so it could possibly work.

No, the 15 amp and 30 amp ends are wired separately to the 50 amp female plug on the Camco Power Grip RV Power Maximizer, # CAM55025. These power wires connect to the 50 amp plug at separate poles allowing you to have 45 amps to you 50 amp trailer connection.

  • Why Won't A GFI Outlet Work With The Camco Power Maximizer?
The Power Grip RV Power Maximizer - 50 Amp Female to 15 Amp Male and 30 Amp Male # CAM55025 is not compatible with a GFI because of the function of the outlet. I reached out to my contact at Camco and they said lack of a completed uninterrupted ground circuit in the wiring will not allow it to function correctly. Their engineers have determined that it needs the uninterrupted flow that a GFI outlet cannot provide even when it is working properly.

  • 15 Amp Male Connector to 50 Amp Female Connector Recommendation
For an adapter that has just the 50 amp female connector plus a 15 amp make connector you would want the part # CAM55168. This would be what you would want to use while at your house without access to a 30 amp power source. The part # CAM55025 would be used only if you have access to both a 30 amp and 15 amp source.

  • Camco Power Grip RV Power Maximizer # CAM55025 Tripping Circuit Breakers
According to my Camco rep, if the outlets you were using at the campsites weren't GFI you might be trying to draw too much power which is throwing the breakers. Trying to draw more than 45 amps would throw the breakers. There could also be a short somewhere in the RV wiring that's causing the breakers to blow. I'd recommend making sure every lamp and appliance in the RV is shut off when you plug in. Then, begin turning on things until the circuit breakers blow.

  • Can Power Grip RV Power Maximizer # CAM55025 Work with Lower Amperage Power Sources

  • Does Power Grip RV Power Maximizer Need to Have Both Male Plugs Used at Same Time?
You do NOT have to plug in both the 15-amp and 30-amp male ends to use the Power Grip RV Power Maximizer # CAM55025. You can plug in just the 15-amp or just the 30-amp male end and it will still work. The 30 or 15 amp end not plugged in will NOT be hot; the two male ends are wired separately.

  • Could Power Grip RV Power Maximizer Plug into a 15 amp and a 20 amp Power Source
It would be possible to plug the male ends of the Power Grip RV Power Maximizer # CAM55025 to both power sources that you mentioned as long as the connectors match. On the male side of the adapter is a 15 amp plug and a 30 amp style plug. Normally a 20 amp outlet has a slightly different plug than a 15 amp. You'd have to source an adapter for that though since we don't carry one currently.

The two adapter plugs are wired independently so you can indeed just treat the unit as separate adapters if needed.
