Video Transcript for What to Know About the Valterra Waste Valve Body w/ Flexible Cable for RV Gray Water Tank

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at the Valterra Waste Valve Body with the 72 inch long flexible cable for your RV gray water tank. Now, this is a replaceable valve for your RV's gray water tank. You can see, when it's open, you activate it, it'll open up, and that'll give you a 1 1/2 inch diameter passage that allows the waste water to travel freely when the valve is open. And then to close it, you just turn your handle, and that'll close the valve. Now, it will include everything shown here on the table.

It includes the valve body itself, the 72 inch long flexible cable, a mounting bracket, which is included if you wanna install it on your RV's side wall with the mounting hardware, and then it comes with the hardware for the valve body, comes with the two seals, one on each side, comes with the four bolts to install it with the nuts, and it even comes with an Allen wrench to loosen this Allen bolt here to allow you to attach the cable to this portion right here. Now, the cable we mentioned, it's a 72 inch flexible cable, this will let you install your valve handle where you want it, so you don't have to go searching underneath your RV for it. This will allow the handle to be converted from a hard access location to a nice simple push pull placement like the control access panel compartment. The inner wire on this cable is a stainless steel construction. Now, we mentioned, this aluminum mounting bracket here, they do include this, 'cause if you don't have room in your control access compartment, this will allow you to mount the handle to the RV's side wall.

And just to give you an idea, there's an insert there, it shows you how this handle installs into this and then you can mount it to the RV's side wall, comes with the mounting hardware. Last thing I wanna do is just give you some dimensions on this valve body. So if we measure from the bottom to the very top, 10 1/4 inches that way, 3 1/4 inches that way, and the depth at the widest point is down here, 1 1/2 inches deep. But that should do it for the review on the Valterra Waste Valve Body with the 72 inch long flexible cable for your RV gray water tank..

Product was delivered by UPS. One box was open. I had to make a phone call etrailer to make sure everything was in the box. It was disappointed in UPS.

The product is of High Quality and replaces the original equipment which lasted until 2006. I have two more which are still functioning but will be re-ordering again the same product when needed.
The only negative was the products packaging was badly beaten up when received. Fortunately all the parts were intact and nothing missing. That is NOT the fault of etrailer. I would recommend the product and etrailer too.

by:

Product was exactly what I was looking for. The customer support is very expeditious and follow through with a care for their consumers. My experience with them to date has been a pleasure and I look forward to utilizing them in the future.

The Valterra waste valve w/72 inch cable was easy to install and has performed flawlessly for the past year. I installed this product on our 5th wheel because the original location of the gray water dump valve was very difficult to reach when the slide was out.

  • Are Replacement Cables And Handles Available For A Cable-Actuated RV Waste Valve
Depending on the brand of the gate valve you will either be able to replace just the cable and handle or will have to replace the entire valve/cable/handle. LaSalle Bristol builds the cables into the housing for the valve, making them essentially trash if the cable ever becomes detached. Valterra uses a nut to hold the cable to valve, allowing for replacements to be swapped in. If you have a Valterra branded valve then you can use the following cables: 72" # TC72PB 96" # TC96PB 120" #...

  • Replacement Cable Actuated Waste Valve Options For A 2011 Keystone Montana High Country 5th Wheel
Determining the correct replacement for your old waste valves is going to depend on the brand and length of your current cables. If you have Valterra branded valves you could reuse the cables you have and avoid rerouting new cables. You could simply pick the least costly option for the black # TC372 and gray # TC172 valves and just hang onto the new cables. You can remove the four bolts holding your old valves in place and then swap in the new valves so you can void having to cut or glue...

  • Installing Seals on the Replacement Valterra Waste Valve
When installing the Valterra Waste Valve Body w/ Flexible Cable for RV Gray Water Tank, # TC172 I suggest you place the seals on the valve body. Please note the attached installation video, this is not for the exact same valve but a similar product that installs in like manner. .

  • Can the Cable on Valterra Flexible Cable Kit # TC172 be Cut Shorter
The cable part of Valterra Flexible Cable Kit # TC172 is not already installed so you could cut it to length if you wanted or needed to in order to get it positioned where you want it.

  • Measurements of Valterra Waste Valves
For the Valterra # TC372 the bolt pattern is 3-3/4", and the overall length, minus the protrusion, is 13-7/8". For the Valterra # TC172 the bolt pattern is 2-1/2", and the overall length, minus the protrusion, is 9-1/4". I have attached dimensional drawings to illustrate this and provide some additional measurements.

  • Recommended Replacement For A Broken LaSalle Bristol Cable Actuated Waste Valve
LaSalle Bristol doesn't make it so that you can replace much on their cable actuated waste valves besides just the handle so you would be better off just replacing the entire valve and cable system with Valterra's Black # TC372 and Gray # TC172. The old valves can just be unbolted and replaced with the new Valterra valves so that you don't have to cut any pipe or glue anything in. Valterra's cable system has a little rod at the end that clamps into an exposed port on the valve to easily...

  • Replacing a Bristol Waste Valve With a Valterra Waste Valve
Plumbing parts are interchangeable on RV's just as long as the fittings are the correct size. I couldn't find that exact part number but I believe I have found the Valterra equivalent. If the Bristol valve you are talking about uses the flexible cable then you can use the Valterra Flexible Cable Kit # TC172 which has a 1-1/2 inch valve or the Valterra Flexible Cable Kit # TC372 which has a 3 inch valve.

  • Are Special Tools Needed to Trim Cable of Valterra Waste Valves
We have confirmed that the cable of the Valterra waste valves like part # TC172 can be trimmed shorter. While we don't have a video that shows this process you'd need to cut the outer cable and inner cable before assembling the valve. Special tools would not be required. Some wire cutters would be all you'd need.

  • Can Waste Valve Extension Tube and Handle be Used as a Replacement
The Valterra Waste Valve Extension Tube with Handle # TX9HPB can be used as a replacement, but they do thread in (see accompanying photo). If you can no longer thread in a rod, you are going to need to replace your waste valve with something like the Valterra Waste Valve Body w/ Flexible Cable for RV Gray Water Tank - 72" # TC172 or whatever type of waste valve you need. I have added a link to our entire selection of waste valves for you to check out.

  • Are Electric Waste Valves Available for 3" and 1-1/2" Valves
Hey Jill, thanks for reaching out! We definitely have some options for you, but it looks like right now all that has been made are electronic waste valves for 3" openings, like the Valterra EZ Valve Electric Waste Valve # E1003VP - unfortunately there aren't any electric waste valves for a 1-1/2" opening. If it's an all or nothing kind of situation then you might consider the Valterra Waste Valve Bodies w/ Flexible Cables # TC1372 which can keep you from having to borderline crawl under...

  • Replacement Seals for Valterra 1-1/2 Diameter Waste Valve
The replacement seals for the Kit # TC172 can be found on our site as part # T1001-9VP. This comes both with 2 seals and with some replacement hardware. The seals should do the trick, but if you're still experiencing a drop somewhere I'd do some double checking to make sure that you have everything installed properly and that any sealant you've used elsewhere is holding up.

  • Replacement Cable for Cable Actuated RV Waste Valve
The cable itself is not available for the LaSalle Bristol Cable-Actuated RV Waste Valve # 34466N4BB96GM, However, we do carry Valterra products like the Valterra Waste Valve Body w/ Flexible Cable for RV Gray Water Tank # TC172- which do have replacement cables available. If you needed to replace the cable on a Valterra waste valve you would want to use the Valterra Cable with Valve Handle # TC96PB, which can be used with both Valterra and Bladex cable actuated waste valves.

  • Can You Reuse The Same Cable When Replacing A Waste Valve
Yes, the cable of your old waste valve can be used with your new Valterra Waste Valve Body w/ Flexible Cable for RV Gray Water Tank - 72" # TC172. The cable simply gets pushed into the valve body and tightened down with an Allen key (pictured below).

  • Can Old Cable be Used for 1-1/2" Waste Valve System
Potentially - it just depends on how your current valve is connected to the cable as well as what brand waste valve you have. For example, the Valterra Waste Valve for RV Gray Water Tank - 1-1/2" Diameter - Spigot to Hub # T1001NH has a connection that screws into place while the Valterra Waste Valve Body # TC172 has a different connection to the cable and it's a replacement for a Valterra waste valve system. Let me know what you have and I'll be happy to see if we have the correct replacement...

  • Solution for RV Waste Valves that Get Difficult to Operate Over Time
When RV waste valves get difficult to operate the issue is that the valves need to be cleaned as build up on the shaft area of the valve is causing the problem. I've read that alot of people have luck submerging the valve in a bucket of soapy water (use a more powerful dish soap if you can) which breaks down the residue that has built up in the valve. Try letting it soak for like 24 hours. This is more common when the valve is mounted in a way that the shaft of the valve is downward and...

  • Waste Valve Will Not Open With Cable Pull
The cable is normally attached to the valve using a set screw inside the housing. You would want to pry the housing open and see if the cable has come unhooked if you have the LaSalle Bristol Cable-Actuated RV Waste Valve for Gray Water Tank part # 34466N11AB60GM. There is not replacement cable available for the Lasalle Bristol so you would most likely need to replace the whole unit. If you have the Valterra brand like part # TC172 you can replace the cable with part # TC72PB.

If you have a Valterra waste valve on your 2015 Open Range 316 then it should have a set screw to secure the cable that runs to the handle. I have never inspected the OEM waste valves on a trailer before but I would be surprised if there were no set screw. Should you find that you don't have one the worst case scenario would be to replace the whole waste valve with a Valterra replacement like part # TC172 that you referenced. There isn't a set length specified for the cables for a motorhome so it's really going to take a bit of planning and measuring to determine the correct length needed. You'll want to start where the valve is going to sit and then measure over to area where you want the valve handle to sit, keeping in mind anything the cable will have to work around to get to this location. You can always go a bit bigger and just wind the cable up a bit and secure with a loom clamp to the frame or inner wall...
