If my handle and some of my current rod broke off with no thread on the rod now will this extension work?

The Valterra Waste Valve Extension Tube with Handle # TX9HPB can be used as a replacement, but they do thread in (see accompanying photo).
If you can no longer thread in a rod, you are going to need to replace your waste valve with something like the Valterra Waste Valve Body w/ Flexible Cable for RV Gray Water Tank - 72" # TC172 or whatever type of waste valve you need.
I have added a link to our entire selection of waste valves for you to check out.
