Video Transcript for Checking Out the Camco RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer Dogbone

Today we're going to take a look at the Camco 50 amp RV power defender circuit analyzer. This circuit analyzer will plug into your 50 amp receptacle at an RV park to test for improper wiring. This is a 125 volt circuit analyzer which will help protect your RV from improperly wired electrical boxes and power surges. Right up at the top here there's four diagnostic lights which will indicate faults before you even connect your 50 amp electrical cord so that you can avoid damage to your RV. Right down here on the bottom is a chart that'll show you, when lights are showing, what the problem might be. If you notice on each end here, they have built in power grip handles. Makes unplugging very easy.

Right up here, this is what'll plug in. This is the 50 amp male end. This will plug into your 50 amp receptacle. Right down here is the 50 amp female end. This is what'll connect to you RV's 50 amp electrical cord. If you notice both ends, the plugs are yellow.

It makes it easy to see in any low light conditions. The box here is a weather resistant PVC and polycarbonate which will protect any electrical components. Overall length on this item, from end to end, is 27 and a half inches and the wire gage used in this is three six-gage and one ten-gage wire. That should do it for the review on the Camco 50 amp RV power defender circuit analyzer.

  • What is the Difference Between a Power Analyzer and a Surge Protector 50 Amp Adapter
An analyzer such as # CAM55313 has diagnostic lights to indicate faults so that you can avoid damage to your RV. This model also offers surge protection. A model that offers only surge protection would not have any diagnostics. But some have both. There is also the Power Defender # CAM55306 that takes surge protection a step further by having the ability to detect too much AND too little power and disconnect and reconnected as needed.

  • Recommended Adapter and Surge Protector for 50 Amp System to 30 Amp Shore Power
With your 50 amp camper system, I recommend using the Power Grip RV Power Maximizer - 50 Amp Female to 15 Amp Male and 30 Amp Male # CAM55025 to allow you to plug into 30 amp power supplies. Then you will use a surge protector like # CAM55306 for multiple surge protection or # CAM55313 for single time surge protection. Many people use the Camco Power Grip Cable with Lock # CAM44290 to protect their investment. Unless you convert your entire system to 30 amp, I don't recommend using a...

  • Differences Between Camco Circuit Analyzers and Power Defenders
You are correct. The 30 Camco RV Power Defender Voltage Protector # CAM55301 is like a circuit breaker and automatically resets if there's a surge whereas the 50 amp Circuit Analyzer part # CAM55313 is like a fuse and it only can handle one surge. For a 50 amp breaker style you'd need the part # CAM55306.

  • Comparison of Camco Circuit Analyzers and Voltage Protectors
Camco Power Defender voltage protectors, parts # CAM55301 and # CAM55306, have a bit more protection than the circuit analyzers, parts # CAM55310, # CAM55312, and # CAM55313. Both the analyzers and protectors have diagnostic lights for faults but beyond that the analyzers are just surge protectors. The voltage protectors go a little further by detecting the voltage and shutting off if the voltage level falls below 102V or goes over 132V. The voltage protectors also reset themselves...

  • Comparing the Camco RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer and Voltage Protector
The Camco RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer part # CAM55313 and Camco RV Power Defender Voltage Protector part # CAM55306 are similar in that they both work to protect the trailer from power surges and have diagnostic lights to help with troubleshooting. However, the Voltage Protector goes a bit beyond this as the voltage detection system is much more sophisticated sensing both high and low voltages in addition to surges. The Circuit Analyzer can only detects power surges, not high and...

  • When Does the Camco Circuit Analyzer Dogbone Part # CAM55313 Reset After a Spike
Yes, the Camco RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer Dogbone part # CAM55313 will act just like a normal surge protector. The analyzers senses incoming current when plugged into an outlet and will detect malfunctions such as open circuits, high voltage etc. The internal circuit board will shut down the flow of power if it senses a spike or other dangerous condition, and won't allow the power to flow again until the problem is corrected or the voltage drops down to a safe level. There is not...

  • Surge Protector When Using Adapter to Connect 50 Amp Camper to 30 Amp Service
In order to plug a 50 amp camper into a 30 amp hookup at a campsite you will indeed need an adapter, for which the Mighty Cord # A10-3050FHVP will work perfectly. With this particular setup you would still want to use a 50 amp surge protector like # CAM55313 for one time surge protection or # CAM55306 that will automatically reset and can be used again and again. Since your camper is rated for 50 amps you just have to protect against surges over this, so you wouldn't need to lower the...

  • Availability of 50-Amp RV Dogbone
We offer Camco RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer Dogbone # CAM55313 which is for 125-volt/50-amp applications. It measures 27-1/2-inches. The unit's diagnostic lights indicate faults before you connect your 50-amp electrical cord to help protect your RV from improperly wired electrical boxes and power surges. Built-in handles on both ends make unplugging easy.

  • Does Camco RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer CAM55313 Have a Fuse/Breaker That Needs to Be Reset
The idea behind the # CAM55313 RV Power Defender is that you'd plug it into the power source and let it analyze the incoming power to ensure it's safe before plugging your RV into it. The unit doesn't use a breaker or a fuse, it's actually a bit more sophisticated than that. The internal circuit board will shut down the flow of power if it senses a spike or other dangerous condition, and won't allow the power to flow again until the problem is corrected or the voltage drops down to a...

  • Recommended RV Power Monitor/Defender for 50-Amp Service
No, instead you will want to use the 50-amp version of the Camco Power Defender, which is their part # CAM55313. This provides the same circuit analyzer and voltage monitoring functions along with surge suppression but in the 50-amp capacity you need. A similar but better option is their RV Power Defender Voltage Monitor # CAM55306 which provides those functions but adds the ability to automatically disconnect when dangerous incoming voltage levels are detected. It will automatically...

  • When Going from 30 Amp Power Source to 50 Amp RV What Power Amperage Circuit Protection is Needed
You want circuit protection to protect your RV's wiring which is rated for 50 amp....so you'd want to go with 50 amp circuit protection. For that we have the part # CAM55306 which automatically resets or the part # CAM55313 which is more like a fuse and is internally damaged and needs to be replaced in the event of a surge. To adapt this to a 30 amp power source you'd want the part # A10-3050FHVP and you'd be set.

  • Does Yamaha Generator Need Grounding Rod when Used with 50 Amp Travel Trailer
You do not need to drive a grounding rod into the ground at your campsites when using your Yamaha generator (or any standard generator) to power your 50 amp RV. Surge protector is probably still a good idea although your Yamaha generator is pretty advanced and most likely would not need one under most circumstances. For a 50 amp circuit defender we have the part # CAM55313 which will work great.

  • Does Camco RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer Dogbone CAM55313 Correct Miswired Outlets
The Camco RV Power Defender Circuit Analyzer Dogbone # CAM55313 will tell you if the power outlet at an RV park is wired properly to prevent damage to the connected RV's electrics, but it does not correct for any mis-wired outlets. It is a warning device only. My contact at Camco confirmed that when three of the four LED indicator lights are lit yellow on the main body of the unit the outlet is wired correctly. They also offer a similar unit, their Power Defender Voltage Analyzer # CAM55310....
