Video Transcript for Thule Roof Mounted Watersport Carriers Tie-Down Strap with Buckle Review

Hi everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today, we'll be taking a look at our Thule replacement tie-down strap with a cam buckle here at etrailer. So, this is a new replacement strap and here on my left hand is our old strap. So, notice how over time, wear and tear has happened. It's definitely discolored.

And while not so much structural damage has happened to it, there are some frays in some areas just where it's rubbed up against some sharp edges. So, you can definitely see why you might be interested in picking up a replacement strap like this if after some time your old strap has worn down, or you lost or you damaged it. So, for dimensions, your strap is going to be one inch thick and for the length is gonna be 172 inches long. So, that's actually going to be about 14 feet and four inches long. So, this is designed for your Thule water sport carriers.

We have it on our kayak carrier right here. So, let's show how to use this with your kayak carrier as we strap down our kayak. So, with different kayak carriers, you have different install processes. But what I usually do is there's an anchor on the back of the kayak carrier, I latch it onto that anchor. Kind of like wrap it around it, then we bring it around the kayak.

And then in our case, we're gonna feed it underneath the crossbar, then cinch it together with our cam buckle. Now, once you have your kayak strapped down, you will usually have excess strap just because of how long the strap is. And it does not come with a kind of excess strap band, so I recommend just using your own rubber band to tie up your excess strap. So, my personal thoughts about our Thule strap here is I do see this working with your Thule water sport carriers. If you want something to match the one that you damage, broke or lost, this is the direct replacement.

So, that's nice to see, especially if you wanna maintain this set. Now, as for the strap itself, it's kind of a thick strap as well as a long strap, which means if you do have items that don't need as much of a tension on them. Also, since this does not have a cam buckle protector as is, you might be worried about damaging your items. I prefer the more elastic straps. I think the etrailer tie-down strap kit is a great kit, especially since the strap itself is a little bit softer and more comfortable but this still works well. Although, please get the cam buckle protector as well. And that was a look here at our Thule replacement tie-down strap with a cam buckle for your Thule water sport carriers here at etrailer..

strong and actually slip into jam clamps unlike others I have used.

by:

Great straps!! I can tie down my kayak in 5 minutes. Highly recommend!

by:

It's such a great and happy relief that I was able to replace my lost tie down and rubber cover so easily and for a good price too. I highly recommend this seller. Item arrived so quickly I didn't know. Seller gave me the heads up and it made my day to find the package in my mailbox just now.

by:

Worked out great now we can tie down 2 paddle board and a kayak on top of our Kona EV.

by:

Work perfect w Thule j racks for kayaks. Super easy to use. I choose the cheapest delievery and it arrived a day early, very timely for the price. But these with confidence.

by:

Replacement strap for my canoe rack. Glad these fail before the rack rips off when the loose strap gets caught under the wheel after launching the canoe. Oops

by:

Easy to navigate site, found parts quickly, good order interface, nice shipping box. Very satisfied, recommended.

by:

Just as advertised

by:

I purchased these as extra insurance for my kayaks. I have the Thule Stacker and am looking to do two straps per boat, on either side of the Stacker. I don't wanna take any chances!

by:

Thule straps are the best (the heavy blue ones). Also picked up the rubber buckle covers with this same order. Everything arrived perfectly. The prices on etrailer for these items were a bargain compared to other sources. I really wanted some additional straps but was pensive as other sources were as much as 3 times the price here.

by:

I needed to replace just one tie-down strap for my Thule watersport system but could only find the complete set elsewhere (two straps plus two buckle protectors) for considerably more money. This was exactly what I was looking for and it was priced reasonably.

by:

The Thule straps are rugged and work great to secure kayaks and other loads to my rooftop carrier. An awesome companion is the Thule buckle protector which ensures my car's paint isn't scratched if I inadvertently drop a strap and buckle.

by:

I purchased this strap as a replacement for the Thule strap I had because the quality of the strap is much better than the off the shelf brands. I'm only replacing it because I cut it too short for the kayak I currently have.

After one year the strap is holding up nicely.

by:

Delivered when promised and as described

by:

Exactly what I ordered. These straps are definitely a better grade than most out there. Used them for years and like another reviewer, I had to buy some new ones after 10 years. Not because the old ones failed but because I bought new kayaks and the old straps I cut to custom length for the original kayaks which made them too short for the new ones.

by:

Perfect replacement for my old original with a broken buckle. Delivery was well packaged, unharmed and on time. Very satisfied in all respects.

  • How Does the Thule Stacker Hold 4 Kayaks
We have just the one kayak for demo purposes but basically with the Thule Stacker # TH830 you would have 2 kayaks on their sides on each side of the uprights. I have included a picture out of the instructions to illustrate this. Additional tie downs will be needed, # 853-5466 and # 753-2030-02.

  • Original Thule Portage Replacement Parts
The Thule Portage has gone through several redesigns, the most recent being part # TH819. This kit is compatible with all of Thule's old style Square bars and their newer Aero bars. I'd recommend getting these if you don't already have a kit, as they will be the easiest way to add gunwale/portage load stops to your setup. If you have them already, or just want to build the older style, I've included all of the replacement parts below that complete the assembly of the older style Portage....

  • Does Thule Stacker Kayak Carrier have Weight Limit
Since the Thule The Stacker # TH830 does not carry any weight (the crossbars of the roof rack do) this carrier does not have a weight limit. The only limit this carrier has is based on the length of the kayaks. As long as the boats are 10 feet or less in length like yours this would work well. To carry 2 kayaks you will need additional tie-downs for the bow and stern like part # 853-5466, and straps like part # 753-2030-02.

  • How to Transport 4 Kayaks on 2018 GMC Sierra Short Bed with Tonneau Cover
I do have a way for you to transport your 4 kayaks with your 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 but unfortunately you won't be able to add crossbars or a ladder rack system to the truck bed with the tonneau cover installed. Any truck bed crossbar system will require mounting space either on the inside of the rails or on top of them and it looks like your cover would interfere with either of these designs. Because of this your only option (if you want to keep the tonneau cover) is to go with a roof...

  • Kayak Carrier Recommendation For 2015 Toyota RAV4 with Factory Roof Rack
For your 2015 Toyota RAV4 with factory crossbars, I recommend the Yakima JayLow Folding J-Style Kayak Carrier # Y04073. It is fairly normal for elliptical and aero crossbars to be 3 inches wide x 1 inch thick. I spoke with my contact at Yakima about the JayLow fitting your factory, 3 inch wide crossbars. Since the JayLow is designed to fit aero, elliptical, and most factory crossbars, this carrier should work well on your crossbars. You would want 2 sets of these carriers to fit 2 kayaks...

  • Can 4 Kayaks Be Loaded Onto Roof of 2017 Subaru Crosstrek
Provided that you will have the necessary crossbar space and weight capacity on the roof of your 2017 Subaru Crosstrek, you can transport your 4 kayaks on the roof. I do recommend checking the weight capacity of your vehicle's roof as listed in the owner's manual to ensure that you remain under its limit. If you already have a factory or aftermarket roof rack installed, I recommend looking at the Thule The Stacker # TH830. This carrier has the ability to secure up to 4 kayaks side by...

  • Can you Carry Three Kayaks on a 2018 Honda CR-V
The owner's manual for your 2018 Honda CR-V states that the roof load capacity for your vehicle is 165 lbs. This means that weight of the kayaks, roof rack, and carrier must not exceed the above capacity. In addition to weight restraints, you are also going to have the obviously size restriction issue. One of the only options we have to haul three kayaks on the roof of a vehicle is with the Thule Stacker part # TH830. However, it is not a guarantee that you will be able to fit all three...

  • Do Bow/Stern Tie-Downs Need To Be Attached to Hood and Rear of Vehicle To Secure Kayaks
The Thule Stacker # TH830 is a great solution to secure a few 10 foot kayaks on their side. The carrier does include a set of tie-downs but you will need to add extra straps # TH855XT and # 753-2030-02 for all 3 of the kayaks. When actually securing the kayaks onto the roof of your CR-V I absolutely recommend attaching the ropes to the front and back ends of the vehicle. This prevents wind during travel from catching underneath the kayak and trying to lift it off the roof. Simply looping...

  • Carrying 3 Kayaks on a 2010 Volvo XC60 with Factory Roof Rack Made By Thule
Three kayaks would be a tight fit on the 37 inch bars on your 2010 Volvo XC60 but I think you can do it. But you would just use the Thule Stacker # TH830 since it handles up to 4 kayaks. The kayaks fit on either side of the bars so there isn't a way that it could damage the kayaks. And the kayaks are not going to weigh enough for the crossbars to damage the kayaks. The only issue is that you need to check the roof rack and roof weight capacity in the owners manual and/or consult Volvo....

  • Recommended Carrier for Transporting 4 Kayaks on 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
The Malone Stax Pro2 Kayak Carrier # MPG115MD lists a 2 kayak capacity as determined by the manufacturer. You could technically add another kayak on each side of the posts by using some additional Foam Blocks # MPG168 but this hasn't been tested so I don't recommend doing this. As you mentioned this particular carrier features a 50 pound capacity per boat anyway so it would not work for your application. Your best option is going to be with the Thule Stacker # TH830, which features the...

  • Best Way to Carry Long Kayak in Back of Short Bed Truck
Since you're already wanting to utilize your truck bed for transporting your kayak I recommend picking up the Flint Hill Goods Truck Bed Extender # FHG89ZR as it allows you to secure and support the end of your kayak that hangs out the back of your truck bed. The uprights will sit 53-1/2" from center of hitch pin hole just to give you a good idea of what to expect with this extender. Just be sure to secure your kayak with a strap like part # 753-2030-02.

  • Recommendation to Secure 3 Kayaks on 2008 GMC Acadia
In order to secure 3 kayaks to the roof of your 2008 GMC Acadia, you will need to start with a roof rack. If the roof of your Acadia has no existing side rails or crossbars, I recommend the Rhino-Rack Vortex Roof Rack System. This consists of # RRVA137B-2 for the two 54 inch Aero Crossbars, # RRRLKVA for the 2500 Series Legs, and # DK230 for the DK Fit Kit. If your Acadia does have factory installed rails that run front to back, then I instead recommend the Yakima RailBar Roof Rack # Y00447-0448....

  • Roof Rack Recommendation for 2006 Saturn Vue With Factory Chrome Rails
We have several bars that will work for your 2006 Saturn Vue with chrome rails. I recommend the Thule WingBar Evo system. The WingBars are one of the quietest crossbars on the market. They can hold up to 165 pounds, but it is always a good idea to check your owner's manual for the weight capacity of your roof. You need the Evo raised rail feet # TH710401 and the 47 inch Wingbars in either silver, # TH711200, or black, # TH711220. I've linked a video of this system on a different vehicle....

For your 4 kayaks I recommend Thule The Stacker - Rooftop Multi-Kayak Carrier # TH830. This will allow you to carry up to 4 kayaks with a max length of 10 feet on your 2017 Jeep Patriot. You will need to get additional load straps # 753-2030-02 and # 853-5466 for each additional kayak. If you want the quick draw with ratchets and strap loops, you will want # TH855XT.

To carry your kayaks on your 2007 Hummer H2 with factory roof rack, I recommend using Thule's The Stacker # TH830. This carrier can hold up to 4 kayaks vertically on your roof.
