Features to know about

Why Do I Need A Built-In Tongue Weight Scale?

Weigh Safe Pintle Hitch with Tongue Weight Scale

Without a built-in scale, you've got two choices: haul the trailer to a weigh station or mess with a separate gauge. This hitch saves that trip. The built-in scale shows how much tongue weight's pressing down on your truck. Too much squats the rear end and lifts your steering. Too little and the trailers dancing all over the road. Now you can balance your load before you ever leave the spot where you hooked up.

Do I Need Separate Hitches To Tow Different Trailers?

Weigh Safe Pintle Hitch with Pintle Hook Weigh Safe Pintle Hitch with Ball Mount

Many heavy-duty jobs use more than one kind of trailer. You might haul a skid steer on an equipment trailer in the morning and switch to a dump or cargo trailer that afternoon. Normally that means changing hitches or hauling extra gear, but not with this setup. The pintle hook and ball mount use the same assembly, so you can switch between them without unbolting or swapping anything on your truck. It's not just convenient, it's a real time saver.

Weigh Safe Pintle Hitch with Two Balls

The hitch includes 2" and 2-5/16" balls for standard couplers. The smaller size fits most utility trailers and landscape trailers, while the larger one handles heavier enclosed trailers and equipment trailers. You can swap them by pulling the pin and dropping in the other ball, which helps cut downtime when you need to make a quick switch.

If you have a heavy duty truck and you are always bouncing between different trailers, this Weigh Safe WS52ER pintle hitch really makes life easier. I like that the built in scale tells me right away if my load is balanced because I have seen too many guys at the jobsite guessing and then fighting sway down the highway. With this you hook up and know, no second guessing and no extra trip to the scales. I was impressed by how quick it is to go from the pintle hook for a skid steer trailer with a lunette ring to the two and five sixteenths ball for a big enclosed work trailer or even dropping to the two inch ball for something smaller like a camper. It is rated up to twenty two thousand pounds, and it feels like it, all steel, heavy in your hands, and built to take a beating. I do not love that it only works in the drop position, but most of the folks I see using this such as contractors, farmers, or RV owners hauling toy haulers are pulling tall, heavy trailers behind big trucks anyway. For that crowd, I think it is a really smart investment because it is safe, adaptable, and saves a lot of hassle when you are switching between jobs or heading out with different trailers on the weekend.

  • Will Weigh Safe Pintle Hitch # WS97WR Work With GM Multi-Pro Tailgate?
Hello Matt, thanks for reaching out. While this is not something we have specifically tested, in all likelihood, yes, the Weigh Safe Pintle Hitch # WS97WR would obstruct the multipro tailgate on the 2024 GMC 2500 AT4. Typically for vehicles with the fold down tailgate, you would want to use a ball mount that is made specifically to work with that tailgate like part # BWTS20066BMP. This does not have a pintle attachment though. What kind of trailer do you have? Does it have a lunette ring?

  • Can 2.5" Weigh Safe Pintle Hitch Be Used In Rise Position?
No, Chris, the adjustable # WS97WR and # WS52ER, and all Weigh Safe pintle hitches, are only to be used in the drop position. The sliding ball mount with built-in scale is designed for safe use in the downward position only, no matter which attachment you have on it (pintle or ball). Are you mainly needing rise for one specific trailer, or do most of your trailers sit pretty tall already? You may end up needing a pintle hitch that can be in the rise position, such as the BandW Tow and...

  • Does The Weigh Safe Pintle Hitch Get Locked Down Over The Ball When Towing With The Hitch Ball ?
Good question, Terry. When you’re towing on the hitch ball, the pintle latch doesn’t close over it like on some other hitches - the coupler itself secures to the ball. The latch is only used in the pintle configuration with a lunette ring, and it gets easily swapped out with the included 2" or 2-5/16" ball (no tools required). Check out the video I attached. Do you know if you need up to 6" drop # WS52ER, or up to 8" drop # WS97WR ? Do you switch back and forth often, or are you mainly...

  • Do I Hook Safety Chains To Pintle Hitch Or The Truck? Weigh Safe Pintle Ball Setup
Kyle, your safety chains attach to the receiver hitch loops on the truck, not to the pintle hitch itself. That’s standard practice for both pintle and ball towing setups. Do you know if you need the 6" drop # WS52ER or the 8" drop version # WS97WR from Weigh Safe? I've attached a pic to help you determine. Also, these have built-in tongue weight scales and can swap from pintle to ball, so it's super unique and premium! What trailers are you planning to pull most often with chains - equipment,...

  • Adjustable Drop Hitch With Pintle And Balls for Lifted F350 That Sits Higher Than Trailer
Good morning, Shawn. For taller trucks like your F-350, the # WS97WR with 8 inch drop is usually the better choice, but it really comes down to you measuring to see how much difference there is between the truck's receiver and the trailer's coupler or lunette ring. Both the 6" drop version # WS52ER and 8" drop version # WS97WR carry the same 22K rating. Have you had a chance to measure your coupler height against your receiver, so you know exactly how much you’ll need? See attached picture...

  • Which Adjustable Pintle Hitch And Ball Mount Combo Is Best For 20K Dump Trailer? 2-1/2" Receiver
Hunter, the Weigh Safe Pintle Hitch 8" drop # WS97WR is rated to 22,000 lbs GTW, so your 20K rated trailer is within limits - just make sure your truck and receiver are rated high enough too. With that much weight, the built-in scale is a big advantage to confirm you’ve got proper tongue weight before rolling out. I do recommend weighing your trailer to make sure when fully loaded, it doesn't exceed the weight rating of this hitch. Do you usually load that dump trailer to full capacity,...

  • Is There A Difference Between Weigh Safe Pintle Drop Hitch 6" WS52ER And 8" WS97WR?
Jacob, the only difference is the range. The # WS52ER gives you up to 6 inch of drop, while the # WS97WR goes to 8. Both are built on a 2.5 inch shank, both are rated 22K GTW / 2,200 lbs tongue weight, and both include the pintle plus 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch balls with the built-in scale. And since you mentioned height, the 6" version is about 9" tall overall, while the 8" version is about 11" overall. Do you already know how much your trailers need, or are you still measuring that out?

  • Adjustable Drop Hitch For Lunette Ring On 20,000lb Equipment Trailer
Yes, Jon, and hello from Missouri! The Weigh Safe Adjustable Drop Hitch 8" # WS97WR is rated for 22,000 lbs GTW and 2,200 lbs tongue weight, so it’s built to handle a heavy-duty equipment trailer like yours with a lunette ring. The 8" drop also helps if your truck sits tall, keeping the trailer level for safer towing. Also if you have trailers with 2" or 2-5/16" couplers, this will work for that as well with the pull of a pin. Do you usually run that trailer fully loaded, or does it...

  • What Are The Weight Ratings Of Each Ball And Pintle Attachment On Weigh Safe Pintle Hitch WS97WR ?
Hey there Caleb! Both the 2 inch and 2-5/16 inch balls supplied with the # WS97WR (adjustable 8" drop) fall under the same 22,000-lb hitch rating. Just make sure the ball matches your trailer coupler size, and always go by the lowest-rated part of your setup truck, hitch, or trailer. It also has a pintle attachment (also 22k) that can easily be swapped on with a simple pull of a pin. Do you have multiple trailers with different coupler sizes, or do you mainly stick with one?

  • Can I Use Adapter Sleeve In 3" Receiver Or 2-1/2" Receiver For Weigh Safe Pintle Hitch W/Scale?
Don, you won’t be able to use the 3" Weigh Safe hitches (# WS64WR or # WS89WR) in a 2-1/2" receiver - the shank is too large. If you actually have a 3" receiver, you could use a reducer sleeve like the etrailer # e33YR to step down to 2-1/2" and run the # WS97WR. But honestly, if you’ve got a 3" receiver, you’re better off sticking with the 3" version - the # WS64WR (6" drop) or # WS89WR (8" drop) - for a direct fit and maximum strength. Do you know for sure if your Silverado came with...

  • Do I Need Different Safety Chains When Swapping From Coupler To Pintle Hitch? - Weigh Safe
No worries, Eddie - your safety chains attach to the receiver hitch loops just like with a ball mount. The pintle portion doesn’t have chain tabs. Just make sure you’re crossing them under the coupler or ring for proper safety setup. I see you were looking at the 2" 15K with 8" drop from Weigh Safe # WS59WR with the built-in scale. You can also get the 8" drop in 2.5" receiver size (22K) with part # WS97WR, or the 8" drop in 3" receiver size (also 22K) with part # WS89WR. What truck and...
