Jeff Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a look at this Brophy pintle hook for 2-1/2 inch hitches. Has a 36,000 pound weight capacity. Now this pintle hook, here, will provide a nice attachment point for your trailer that's equipped with a lunette ring coupler, and a lunette ring couplers are normally found on heavy duty trailers, like construction trailers, that need a secure connection on uneven terrain, but still need to allow for more movement at the attachment point than your standard ball hitches. This was designed to fit lunette ring couplers that have an inner ring diameter of 2-1/2 inches. So, basically, your lunette ring would just, pretty much, be like a round donut shape, and the inner portion has to be a diameter of at least 2-1/2 inches.
And then what you will do is the way you open this up is you just remove the pin and the clip, lift up on this handle, right here, and to raise up the top portion, it'll hold it open. And then your lunette ring, that'll be on your trailer, will just drop down on the hook, like that, push that top down and it'll lock it into place. And then to secure it, run your pin back through, oops, run your pin all the way through and then clip it, and it'll lock it into place, keep it from opening. And if you notice, the pin and clip, here, is tethered to the hook so you won't lose it. Now this is a nice forged steel construction, it's very strong and durable.
You can see it has a nice black powder coat finish over the whole hook, resists rust and corrosion. And right back here is the hitch pin hole. Now this does not come with a hitch pin, or a pin and clip, or a hitch lock, those we do sell separately on our website, and it does have a hitch pin hole of 5/8 inch diameter size, so if you already have a hitch pin and clip, or hitch lock with that size it should work on here. If not, we do sell them separately. Application, again, this is designed to slide into a 2-1/2 inch by 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch receiver.
Gross towing weight capacity on this, 36,000 pounds. Tongue weight capacity of 3000 pounds. And the last thing I wanna do is just give you some dimensions on this. We're gonna do the overall length and then we'll measure from the center of the hitch pin hole to the front. So overall, it's gonna be right at 14-3/4 inches overall length, and if we go from the center of the hitch pin hole to the very front it's right at 12 inches long.
But again, just to show you how this operates, remove the pin and the clip, lift up on your handle, there, open it up and you're ready to hook up. After it's hooked up just push down on it, take your pin, slide it all the way through and then clip it and you're all ready to go. But that should do it for the review on the Brophy pintle hook for 2-1/2 inch hitches with the 36,000 pound weight capacity..
I use this for off-road recovery behind a ram 2500 Power Wagon. Very rugged and beefy construction. Powder coating is very rugged and durable. The fit into the receiver is slightly loose, not a problem at all. I may add a clamp to limit some of the rattle. Overall, very rugged and bullet proof. Never have any worry about strength or durability.
Great pintle hitch! It operates smoothly and I love the weight rating and am comfortable pulling any of the equipment trailers we have with it behind our Ram 5500.

This 36,000 lb. pintle hitch is an extremely well made American Product. The latch is very smooth and easy to open, the Powder Coating they applied to the hitch is very good and will preserve the hitch for a long time. To my surprise when I received the pintle hitch it is stamped right into the casting 20 Ton. Very well made and rugged hitch. The product review video was very helpful and describes this pintle hitch perfectly. Also I want to thank Courtney B. for her help when I called in with a couple of questions I had in comparing this hitch with another one that is offered, while on the phone, Courtney placed my order and in less than two days I received my pintle hitch, and I am extremely pleased with it. I will be towing a 20 ton rated trailer with a 16,000 lb. excavator behind my Chevy Silverado 3500 Heavy Duty Diesel that comes with a

Great product and fits perfectly on the GMC 5500 for pulling heavy loads
I do like the strength of the product. The flaws were the actual bolt on the top piece broke off holding the locking pin first week (allen key bolt). I also have to spray or grease the top piece that opens and closes and the rain rusts the joint quickly and is almost impossible to lift up by hand. I would look to purchase another product here since the price is right, but am not happy with the day to day use of this hitch at all. I do not have a picture at the moment, but if I can, I will show some of the issues. Thanks.

I will have our customer service team reach out to you. I recommend keeping a can of rust resistant touch up paint to touch up the pintle hook from time to time. I reached out to the manufacturer who advised that keeping it oiled after each use would also help to increase the longevity.

This is a great hitch to fit our new Chevy that has the correct weight rating to pull our trailer. It is hard to find a hitch with this rating that is a slide in receiver at this price. Great buy very happy with this purchase.
Outstanding product. A bit overkill for my 16,000 lb trailer but with past experiences I'll leave the ball hitches to the amateur's.

Great product very heavy duty.
It’s slightly shorter (bearing point of pintle to pin hole) than the similar product made by curt mfg. this was just enough of a difference where it no longer Tripped my backup sensors on my 2020 ram 3500. the safety pin not only locks the pintle closed, but will also lock it in the open position as well which it a great feature. Only downside is the chain for safety pin is a tad short which isn’t a big deal.

Sounds like some piece of mind, Wil! If are still wanting something equally beefy to help with the little wiggle you are seeing, you can use part # GY28XR. This anti-rattle will definitely be able to match the weight this pintle will be towing.
