Option For Carrying 2 E-Bikes Using The Curt RV Bumper Hitch E-100

Updated 04/29/2024 | Published 04/23/2024

Question:

Hello, I have a RV camper that I would like to put a Kuat Transfer V 2 bike rack on for our two 48 pounds e bikes. I dont have enough room to install a 2inch receiver on the frame so I thought about the Curt RV bumper receiver E-100. I had previously put on saftey struts on the bumper which is rated for 400 pounds but I notice at the bottom of the page for the Kuat Transfer it said it cant go on the bumper. Your thoughts. Thank You.

Hello Ron. You are correct that the Kuat Transfer V2 # KU84FR is not recommended to be used on a hitch attached to a bumper. Even with the safety struts added, we still cannot recommend doing this. Using a bumper mounted hitch is definitely going to limit your options for a bike rack. Our best option for this is the Kuat Piston Pro Bike Rack # KU76ZR. This rack is rated for use on the back of a camper, and unlike the Transfer V2, the Piston Pro can be used with a bumper mounted hitch.

This rack does have a capacity of 42 lbs per bike, so I do recommend removing the batteries from your e-bikes when you transport them. This should get the weight below the 42 lb limit.

Thanks for your reply Jesse. I have one more question, I will be carrying only one e bike on the back of the travel trailer to keep the weight down so is it possible to go with the Swagman Escapee which is a little lighter and can hold a 60 lb bike to go with the Curt 4 inch bumper receiver? Thanks again.

@RonP Hey Ron, the Swagman Escapee # S39SR is a great choice. This rack is approved for use with a bumper-mounted hitch. They do recommend that the ground clearance of the hitch be at least 15" when on a travel trailer or 5th wheel, but that is really the only noteworthy stipulation.
