Its kinda pricey. Is there something else less expensive. Also, the term 5inch from center pin hitch to bumper is unclear.

Expert Reply:

Yes, you can use the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11416 on your 2021 Honda HR-V LX, to be able to carry 2 bikes. This receiver will fit all trim levels and both the FWD and AWD drive types. As you are going to be carrying a bike rack an important measurement is the hitch pin center to bumper measurement which we find to be 5" when installed in our shop.

Curt does require the use of their Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap # 18050 when using any hitch mounted carrying accessory.

You must use a Class I compatible bike rack like the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack # SH12B. This rack will work very well with your HR-V as it will sit 7-1/2" from the hitch pin center when folded up leaving you 2-1/2" clearance. It has a keyed alike bike lock strap and hitch pin lock that has an anti-rattle feature built in. The rack can support 2 bikes weighing up to 40lbs each. The rack will tilt away from your HR-V allowing you access to the rear storage area when you have bikes loaded.

If you need to be able to carry 3 bikes with your HR-V, you will need to use the 2" EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7322. This will allow you to use a RockyMounts MonoRail Bike Rack # RKY10004-10005. This rack will convert to carry 2 or 3 bikes by removing the front bike rack.

You will need to install a Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118673 so that you will be able to use Auxiliary Lights # C53201 on the bike rack. This will allow drivers behind you clear view of tail lights as your current tail lights will be impaired by the bikes loaded on your carrier. The 4-way harness can also be used if you intend to tow any small trailers to control the tail lights on the trailer.

For a more affordable bike rack the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider Bike Rack # HR1000Z will carry up to two 50lb bicycles and it uses a frame mount to secure the bikes on the rack. This is also compatible with the Class I receiver that you have. I have added a picture of the 5" measurement that I mentioned being the distance we measured when we installed the Curt Receiver # C11416 on a similar HR-V. This distance is from the center of the hitch pin hole that secures the bike rack in the receiver to the rear portion of your bumper. This measurement is important to ensure that your accessories do not contact the rear bumper on your HR-V.
