Approved for use on cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, and motorhomes - not approved for fifth wheels or towable campers

This Curt bike rack makes it easy to carry 2 fat bikes on the back of your vehicle. The platform-style rack is easier to load than a hanging rack because you don't have to lift your bikes nearly as high to get them into place. Ratcheting hooks and wheel hoops accommodate 2 bikes of most shapes and sizes. The entire rack tilts down for easy access to your cargo area, even while the bikes are loaded. And you can choose between 2 different ways to fold the rack up for storage on your vehicle when it's not in use.

Ratcheting Frame Hooks

Each center mast has 2 ratcheting hooks that move up and down independently of one another. This allows you to carry up to 2 bikes of different heights or with different frame styles. The hooks firmly grip your bikes by the top tubes, and they are cushioned to protect your bike frames from scratches and scuffs. Once you slide the hooks into position, just lock them in place.

Adjustable Wheel Hoops

Curt platform bike rack cradles

The wheel hoops are designed to fit fat bike tires up to 4-7/8" wide. These sturdy, adjustable wheel hoops let you carry bikes of different lengths. Use the built-in knobs to loosen the hoops. Then slide the hoops to the desired position along the platform base and tighten them into place.

The rack also comes with 2 sets of standard-size wheel holders that fit bike tires up to 3" wide, giving you the option to carry any combination of 2 fat or standard bikes.

Tilting and Folding Design

Curt platform bike rack in tilted position

The entire rack can be tilted down - away from your vehicle - so that you can easily access your rear cargo area, even when your bikes are loaded. Just pull the pin at the base of the rack to tilt it down.

Curt platform bike rack storage options

There are 2 ways that you can fold up the rack to store it on your vehicle when it's not in use. Option 1 lets you fold the cradle arms up towards the upright mast. Simply remove the pins and fold up the arms. Then replace the pins to secure the arms in the upright position. Option 2 lets you fold the rack up against the rear of your vehicle. First, lower the center mast by removing its pin and clip at the base and then fold the mast down forward. Then remove the pins from the base of the rack and fold up the carrier.

Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin and Adapter Sleeve

Curt platform bike rack anti-rattle hitch pin

This rack comes with an anti-rattle hitch pin. The threaded pin holds the bike rack in your hitch, and it reduces noise and movement of the rack inside your hitch. An adapter sleeve is included as well, which allows the rack to fit either a 1-1/4" or a 2" hitch receiver. Because this bike rack has a threaded shank, it is not compatible with standard hitch locks.

Video Transcript for Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack for Fat Bikes Review

Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack for Fat Bikes, part number: C18085-FB. The Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack for Fat Bikes is great for carrying up to two fat bikes, or you can also have road bikes as you see here, or mountain bikes, or bikes with alternate frames. One of the best features about this bike rack is the fact that it can tilt away from the vehicle with both bikes still attached. To do that, we come to the base of our bike rack and you're gonna see two pins; you're gonna see a smaller one here, and the larger one. We'll first remove the larger of the two pins, sliding it out like so, and then we'll remove the smaller one while holding up the bike rack a little bit. And now, holding onto the bike rack, never the bikes, let the bike rack tilt forward.

And now we have full access to our rear hatch to get what we need, and plenty of space on either side to do so. How our bikes are held into place, we're gonna have one point of contact and that's gonna be the frame at the top here. We're gonna have padded frame hooks to hold those in place, and they are padded to ensure that the frame of your bike doesn't have any scratches or abrasions on it. They are lockable, as well. To hold our tires in place we have these wheel hoops, and they do support tire sizes up to 4-7/8" wide. The hoops are adjustable by loosening and tightening the knobs here, and that's to accommodate both loading and unloading, and to fit bikes of different sizes.

We've gone ahead and taken off the bikes so we can show off some additional features. Right now we have it in the loading position, meaning it's ready to receive the bikes when necessary. However, there's a couple other storage positions we'd like to show you. The first one's gonna be what we call the "suitcase" position. And that's where we're gonna fold up both of these arms with the wheel hoops. You come to the base here, remove these pins like so, lift up the arms.

And you may need to adjust the wheel hoops as necessary to be able to push them up all the way. And we'll push that through. And this is the suitcase position. Our second storage option is to fold it flat and fold it up against the vehicle, and that's gonna be when you're parking in your garage or just parking in general. We'll first need to lower our mast here by removing this pin at the base.

Line up those holes like so. And while it's in this position, I would like to point out that you still can have access now to your rear hatch if you wanted to. To fold it up against the vehicle, we'll come to our base again and remove that large pin we did earlier, to tilt it, except this time we'll just push it straight up, lining up these holes on the side, and inserting the pin. Now that we've gone over some of the features of this bike rack, let's go ahead and show you how it installs. We'll simply lift it up into our hitch, line up the pin holes, and then install our anti-rattle bolt. You're gonna take your ratchet or your wrench depending on what you got, and really snug that down. And once you tighten that down it'll take out the shake and play in the shank and it'll make for a much smoother ride, as well. Now that we have it tightened up in our hitch, we'll fold our arms down and get it ready to receive some bikes. We'll put our hooks all the way up like you see there, by pushing those two buttons. We'll also loosen up our cradles here, our wheel hoops. And this is just so they're easily maneuverable once you start putting bikes on. With our center mast here, we pull that pin at the base, we can actually fold our mast down out of the way and make loading our first bike a little bit easier. We'll take our main mast, lift it up, and making sure we're holding onto the bike when we're doing this, re-secure the main mast with our pin here. Now we can just push down our frame hook til it's nice and secure. With our fat bike installed, now we can tighten down those wheel hoops so they don't move around when we drive. Now we can grab our second bike and load that one on. With both bikes in place, take our keys here with our lock, and lock our hooks down for a little bit of anti-theft. First we'll take it onto our slalom course. This will show you the side-to-side action, such as making turns or evasive maneuvers. Now we're at the alternating speed bumps. This will show you how it looks driving on uneven pavement or potholes. Finally, we're at the solid speed bumps, which simulates going into your driveway or parking lots. And there you have it for the Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack for Fat Bikes, part number: C18085-FB.

I received it in just 2 days, I just installed this rack with no issues other than it rocks really bad in the receiver. 492962

Thank you for your review. This curt bike rack part # C18085-FB comes with an adapter to make it fit into a 1-1/4 or a 2 hitch. I am not sure which size hitch you have but you may want to make sure the adapter is flipped to the correct size to fit into your hitch. If you have a 2 hitch and the adapter is on the 1-1/4 side then it will rock back and forth in the hitch. If you have it on the correct side then an anti-rattle device such as a roadmaster quiet hitch will help. The quiet hitch will tighten up the space between the bike rack and the hitch receiver. If you have a 2 hitch then you will need part # RM-061
Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 2" Trailer Hitches
$27.94
. If you have a 1-1/4 hitch you will need part # RM-061-125
Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 1-1/4" Trailer Hitches
$21.34
.

I received the C18085-FB Fat Tire Bike Rack yesterday. It took me about 1/2 hour to assemble the pieces. The instructions could be a bit more clear, especially when it comes to the washers but I figured it out. It appears to be a quality product. I have not had the chance to try it out but eTrailer was very helpful in helping me on the purchase. It came in 2 boxes because I ordered the Fat Tire mount which included for regular or mounting bike tire holders as well. You would pay an additional $50.00 or so to get the tire holders that are required for fat tire bikes. My tires width measures 4" wide. Another nice feature is it can support 1 1/4" or 2" hitches. It is harder to find a bike rack for fat tire bikes that would work with a 1 1/4" hitch. Most only support 2". 654179

The rack arrived on time, was very easy to install and is just great. The price was so affordable, the video very informative, the overall experience was beyond my expectations. I am 80 years young and was hesitant about purchasing an electric bike, so this was a new experience for me. Thanks. 411216

Do you have a question about this Hitch Bike Rack?

  • Carrying Two Fat Bikes with the Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack with Adapters
  • If the Curt 2 Bike Platform Rack, part # C18085 can carry two fat bikes will be determined by the weight of the bikes. Each position is limited to 45 pounds, and the individual bikes in this position can't exceed this weight capacity, even with the fat bike adapters, part # C18091 equipped onto the rack. If you're buying for two fat bikes, you can save a little bit by buying the dual Fat Bike kit, part # C18085-FB. If you have heavier fat bikes, and this rack won't work for you, I recommend...

  • Curt's 2 Bike Platform Rack for Fat Bikes # C18085-FB includes an anti-rattle threaded hitch pin that will reduce motion of the rack in your hitch but this feature prevents use of a standard hitch lock. No worries though since you can use a simple cable lock such as # CAB-10 (10-foot) or # C23666 (6-foot) to both lock your bikes to the rack and also to lock the rack to your hitch receiver by running the cable through a safety chain loop on your hitch.
