Recommended Weight Distribution System w/a 2-1/2" Shank for a Trailer w/a 1,100 lbs Tongue Weight

Updated 08/10/2026 | Published 08/05/2026

Question:

Looking to get correct weight distribution hitch for my truck and trailer. Tow vehicle is F250 11,150 GVW. Trailer is Rockwood Mini Lite 2515s 7,760 GVW. Based on CAT scale from a couple of measurements, my tongue weight was 900 to 1100 pounds depending on how much I pack in the front pass through. I was thinking of getting the middle weight 1200 pounds tongue weight and 12,500 GVW. Would this work for my setup? Thank you.

It sure would David! So long as your F-250 has a 2-1/2" hitch the Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch item # WS59MR will work great. This system is going to be perfect for a 900 lbs - 1,100 lbs tongue weight and the built in scale will help you play around with how you load your trailer. So long as you stay under 1,250 lbs on the tongue weight you'll be good and at the same time not feel stiff or overrated.

The Weigh Safe True Tow Weight Distribution Hitch item # WS59MR has built in sway control that will keep your trailer in line with your F-250 when you're going down the highway and make a sudden lane change or get passed by a semi. It's really helpful when you get sideswiped by a gust of wind too. This system includes a 2-1/2" shank with a 6" drop, a lifting tool for the arms, and a 2-5/16" hitch ball.

Please note you will need room on your Rockwood trailer's coupler between 27" - 32" back from where the hitch ball mounts. This is for the sway control brackets.

What kind of gear do you pack in the front pass-through of your trailer? Feel free to answer this and throw in any other questions you have, where it says Add Comment.

This is what i used to tow a 11,400# 24’ cargo trailer from CT to AK. It worked great! 2026 F250 7.3 gas engine . I was just under the limits of the hitch and didn't have an issue. Worked great. No sway and the setup felt much more planted then when I did a test run without it. It’s worth the $$$. Also, this hitch you can reverse with, where a lot of others you cant. Having the scale built into the hitch is a game changer. No more guessing about safety.

I use this one for our Brinkley I275, which weighs about 8500 lbs. Works great. And as Chris mentioned too, the built-in scale take the guessing out of it JJK
