Get More Utility Out of Your Vehicle

trailer mate hitch installed

You don't need a heavy-duty truck to get out there with your gear. With 4,000 lbs of towing capacity and 400 lbs of tongue weight, this hitch is built for everyday use. It's right at home carrying a cargo tray for a weekend trip, taking bikes out to the trailhead, or even hauling a trailer to the hardware store. The 2" receiver is what most racks, trays, and ball mounts are designed for, so chances are the gear you already have (or the gear you want) will slide right in. You shouldn't have to hunt for an adapter to make your accessory work. And it's Class III, which means it's strong enough for regular use, not just occasional hauling.

Custom Installation

This hitch bolts directly to the frame using included hardware and the tools most folks already have in the garage. There's no need to drill into the vehicle or weld anything in place, and you won't be cutting up the bumper just to make it fit. It's designed for a simple install whether you're putting it on yourself or having a shop handle it. If you'd rather not DIY, we can help you find a local installer using our dealer locator.

Tested and Proven

This hitch meets SAE J684 standards, so it's been tested to handle its rated capacity under real towing conditions. You may not spend time thinking about certifications, but they matter when you're pulling weight. This one covers strength, performance, and structural integrity, so you're working with something that's actually been proven, not just claimed.

Video Transcript for Easily Install Your Trailer Mate Class III Trailer Hitch - 2024 Hyundai Palisade

Hi everyone, Jesse here with Etrailer. Today we'll be taking a look at and I'll show you how to install the Trailer Mate Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver on our 2024 Hyundai Palisade. Adding a hitch to a Palisade really makes a ton of sense. These things have three rows of seats, so whenever you have all those seats filled up with people, you really run out of storage space inside the vehicle. So once you have this hitch installed, that gives you the ability to add extra storage space outside the vehicle, whether it be a bike rack or cargo carrier, or you can even do some towing with it. Just remember if you plan on doing any kind of towing with your vehicle, there are a few other things that you'll need to get it ready.

That includes trailer wiring so that you're safe and legal out there on the road, and also a ball mount among some other things. I'd understand if you have any questions or concerns about what you need to get your vehicle ready to tow, reach out to us, we'd be happy to help you out. And we'll take a closer look at our hitch installed on our neighbor's vehicle. So we can see our cross beams are gonna be hidden behind our fascia, so all you can really see is this receiver. And our receiver does not come with your normal reinforced collar, which isn't really that big of a deal unless you have a certain anti-rattle device that needs that collar.

Otherwise, it's gonna work just the same as any other receiver opening. And it's gonna be your standard two inch by two inch opening, so most of your accessories will slide right in there. Behind that is another standard 5/8 inch pinhole. The pin and clip not included with the hitch. However, we have many options available here at Etrailer.

Also, any accessory that you add on will most likely come with one included. On the bottom for your towing is a nice wire type safety cable loop. Very easy to access with whatever style safety cable you might have. For example, an S style like that, or even a large clevis like this. We'll take some quick measurements starting with our ground clearance.

From the ground to the top of the inside of our collar is 13 and a half inches. And then from the center of our pinhole to the edge of our bumper is right at about five and a half inches. That's a number you'll wanna keep in mind for any folding accessories that you might add on to ensure they don't make contact with the vehicle. As for the weight capacities with this hitch, we have a gross trailer weight of 4,000 pounds. That's the amount of weight that you can pull behind the vehicle. And then a maximum tongue weight of 400 pounds. That's the amount of weight pushing down on the hitch. Always be sure to double check your vehicle's owner's manual, compare those numbers, and go off the lowest rated component. All in all, if you're looking to add a hitch to the back of your Palisade, you really can't go wrong with the Trailer Mate option. As for the installation, it's a very simple process. You do have to get up under your vehicle and lower your exhaust. If you're not looking to do that yourself, check out our installer locator. You can find someone local to you that'll be happy to get you set up. If you are looking to see how this gets installed, then follow along and I'll walk you through the process. To begin our installation, you'll want to lower down your spare to get that out of your way, and then we're gonna move on to lowering our exhaust. So before you lower it down, make sure you have something supporting it. I'm using a cam strap since I'm all the way up in the air. If you're working on the ground, you can just use a floor jack. We'll move on to our first exhaust hanger. It's gonna be right here, and I did spray it down with some soapy water, and I'm just using a pry bar to pop that off, and then we'll move on to the next one. This one's kind of by your passenger rear tire. It is a little trickier to get any kind of angle on. Then we'll move onto this center one. And this one you could still use a pry bar to get leverage, but I'm just gonna use my exhaust hanger tool to make quick work of it. On the driver's side, we have this plastic box that we'll need to remove. This is held in by two 14 millimeters. These are just plastic, so you will have to kind of pull down on them as you unthread it. And then we have some push pin fasteners along the outside here. So with these, helps to have a trim panel tool like this, or you can just use a flathead screwdriver. We just wanna get that center portion taken out so we can take the whole thing out. So we get those three off and then we can pull this out and set it aside. Now we'll locate our mounting holes. So on both sides of our vehicle, we're gonna have these holes going through our frame rail, and each of those holes will get a long bolt with a conical tooth washer with those teeth facing towards the hitch. Slide that through. On the other side, you'll get another conical tooth washer once again, teeth facing in and a nut. At this point, I'd recommend grabbing an extra set of hands. I have my friend Daniel here to help me out. We're gonna get his end up above the exhaust first, and then we'll get our mounting holes all lined up and push one bolt with the conical tooth washer through. That'll hold it in place so we can get the rest of our hardware installed. The bolts on the passenger side are kind of tricky because you have this heat shield here, so you could either just bend that heat shield out of your way or do what I do and take a flathead screwdriver and just use it as a punch, hammering the end of it, getting that bolt all the way through. Once you have all the hardware started, we can move on to tightening it down. You'll need a 13/16 inch socket and a three quarter inch wrench. (tool whirring) Then I'll go over our hardware with our torque wrench to make sure that it's torqued down to the specification in the instructions. (tool beeps) Once you have everything torque down, all that's left is to get your spare tire and your exhaust hung back up and also reinstall that plastic box. Otherwise that's gonna do it for our look at and installation of the Trailer Mate Custom Fit Trailer Hitch Receiver on our 2024 Hyundai Palisade.

Perfect fit!!

Fit perfect works great

by:

The hitch was about 1/4 to 1/2” narrow. Would feel better about it if it was wider. I think I got it cinched up snug.

by:

Arrived quickly, nothing was damaged or missing, well packaged, and already installed. Went super easy, fit like a glove on our 2025 Palisade SEL!

by:

This did not fit a 2026 Hyundai Palisade as advertised. eTrailer customer service was less than helpful.
