TorkLift SuperTruss in SuperHitch

This SuperTruss hitch extender is specially designed to work with your SuperHitch trailer hitch (sold separately). Like most products from TorkLift, the primary purpose of this extender is to help create a towing setup that fits perfectly with your truck bed camper system. Not only will you be able to extend your trailer hitch receiver out far enough to clear the overhang of your camper, but you will also maintain a high enough weight capacity so that you can tow your trailer.

Heavy-Duty Towing with a Hitch Extension

Most hitch extensions dramatically reduce the towing capacity of your hitch setup, making it difficult to tow a loaded trailer over a certain weight. The SuperTruss, though, creates such a sturdy connection with your SuperHitch trailer hitch that you can still maintain a high weight capacity. To get the highest capacity possible, use a standard weight distribution system with the TorkLift towing setup.

The SuperTruss uses both of the receivers on your TorkLift SuperHitch to ensure a sturdy, secure connection. The solid shank of the extension's top tube slides into your top receiver, and the extension's lower compression tube installs in your bottom receiver. Each tube is held in place with the hitch pins and clips that were included with your SuperHitch. The connection between the extension and your hitch is reinforced with 2 sturdy steel collars that bolt around the tubes of the SuperTruss.

To give you absolute peace of mind, lateral support chains connect to the hitch and the extension on either side of your setup. Just attach one end of each chain to the extension and secure the opposite end to your SuperHitch. Then tighten the chains with the integrated turnbuckles. These chains not only provide extra security to keep the extension in place in your hitch, but they also transfer some of the weight back from the extension to your frame-mounted hitch.

How to Determine the SuperTruss Length You Need

If the camper is mounted on the truck:

Measure from the face of the truck's rear bumper to the outside edge of the camper's bumper. This is the length of the extension that you need.

If the camper is not mounted on the truck:

1. Measure from the inside of the front of your truck bed to the outside face of the truck's rear bumper.

2. Measure the camper's overall floor length from the rubber bumpers at the front to the outside edge of the rear bumper.

3. Find the difference between these 2 figures by subtracting. The difference is the length of the extension that you need.

  • Recommendation for Towing a Trailer with a Hitch Extension
The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V Commercial Duty - 2-1/2" # C15809 is a great option for your 2011 Ram 2500 as long as you are okay with a 24 inch hitch extension like # C45048. This will give you a gross trailer weight of 8,000 lbs when used with weight distribution, so a weight distribution system would be required. Your other option is to use the TorkLift SuperHitch Original Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class V - Dual 2" Receivers # TLD1102 instead...

  • Extension on F-450 With ACME 91471
Hi Stephen; the problem with a standard extension is that it will reduce the capacity of the hitch by 50%. Assuming you can find an extension that is rated high enough your ACME 91471 is rated for 10,000 lbs. Cut that in half and you won't be able to handle your 7,500 lb requirement. With the flatbed I'm sorry to say I don't have a different solution that would allow you to use an extension and handle that weight.

  • Looking For Hitch Extender Rated For Over 5,500 lbs And Can Be Used With Weight Distribution System
Hello Doug, thanks for reaching out. I am sorry to say that such an extension does not exist. We do carry extensions for a 2" hitch, but nothing that would allow you to use a weight distribution system with a standard 2" hitch. The only potential option would be one of the TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extensions like part # TLE1521. This would require replacing the trailer hitch on your truck with a TorkLift SuperHitch which has stacked 2" receivers. The extension is 21" long and is rated...

  • Is There A Hitch Extender For 2.5" Hitch With A 7,500lb GTW Capacity
Hey Eric, The hitch extenders that we currently offer for a 2-1/2" receiver tube opening unfortunately max out at 6,000lbs GTW and wouldn't be capable of towing the trailer. You're most likely going to need to upgrade to a TorkLift SuperHitch in order to use their SuperTruss extenders, like part # TLE1521 you were looking at. If this is something you'd end up going with then let me know the year of your Ram 3500 and I can look up the correct fit.

Hey Brandon. The longest hitch extender we have is the 14" long Gen-Y Hitch item # GY89SR. This fits a 2" receiver and has a 10,000 lbs capacity but it will reduce your hitches capacity by 50% like all hitch extenders do. The 15-3/4" Long Hidden Hitch Ball Mount item # 80232 fits a 2" receiver and has a 6,000 lbs tongue weight capacity. It will not reduce your hitch's capacity. If you're using a weight distribution system, the 18" long extended Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank item # EQ90-02-4500...

Hi William, The correct TorkLift SuperHitch for your 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500 is going to depend on your bed length and then will be split by capacity. 6-1/2' Bed: 17k # TLC1212 20k # TLC1212-30 8' Bed: 17k # TLC1211 20k # TLC1211-30 From there you can measure to find the correct length TorkLift SuperTruss hitch extender by measuring. The Torklift SuperHitch part # TLC1204 is the correct fit for your 2003 Chevy Silverado 2500HD short bed. And then the correct 21 inch Torklift hitch extender is the part # TLE1521 and you'd be set! As long as you are under the weight capacities of the truck and towing components you'd have no negative affects while towing.

  • Will a Weight Distribution System Help w/an In Bed Camper and a Motorcycle Carrier?
Hey Kyle, thanks for the picture! Cute dog!! A weight distribution system like item # BXW1000 connects to a trailer's tongue and transfers some of the weight from the tow vehicle's rear axle to the front reducing tongue weight. Unless you are planning on hauling your 2024 XSR700 motorcycle behind your Tundra on a trailer there is nothing a weight distribution system will do for you. The longest extension available that will work with the factory trailer hitch receiver on your 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 is the Trailer Hitch Extender # e48YR. You will need to measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on your trailer hitch receiver to the edge of your truck bed camper to see if this extension is long enough. • Solution for Hitch Extension With 1,000 Pound TW and 10,000 Pound GTW Capacity on 2000 F-350
I have a possible solution, but none of the 14-16" extensions have a high enough capacity. The only thing that comes close is the Gen-Y # GY89SR which has a gross towing weight of 10,000 lbs, but the max tongue weight is only 500 lbs. This would also reduce the capacity of your hitch by 50% like many hitch extenders do. If you can handle it being slightly shorter, what you could use instead is the Brophy Ball Mount for 2" Hitch # BH20. This is 13-1/4" long and has the capacity you need....

  • Can I Extend My Hitch Without Using TorkLift Hitch and SuperTruss Extension
The only other extension option we carry besides the Torklift SuperTruss extender that does not cut your tongue weight in half is an extra long ball mount. Traditional extensions such as part # C45796 cut the tongue weight capacity of the hitch on the truck in half because it creates extra leverage and movement in your towing setup. The only extra long ball mount we offer that is long enough for your setup is the Hidden Hitch ball mount part # BM20 at 13-1/4 inches long. That length is...

I do have options for you but the traditional hitch extenders like the Hitch Box Extension and Reducer part # RP45292 that you are looking at will reduce your towing capacity too much to be used with your trailer most likely. Therefore, the best option I have is a weight distribution system with an extended shank, the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank part # EQ90-02-4600 and the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System part # EQ37121ET. The only hitch extender we have that will work for you is the TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension. The shortest extension they offer is part # TLE1521 which measures 21" long. The issue is the weight of your trailer and 50% reduction from the adapter. In order to use the SuperTruss you will also need the TorkLift SuperHitch Original Trailer Hitch Receiver part # TLC1212 if you have a 6-1/2' bed or part # TLC1211 if you have an 8' bed.

  • Towing a Boat Trailer with Folding Tongue Using Weight Distribution with Camper in Truck Bed
It is not a good idea to use weight distribution with a folding tongue due to the amount of force applied by the spring bars to the trailer. If you were to do it you would need to have a pole tongue adapter such as # RP58393 since the trailer does not have a traditional A-Frame. The other issue is that you would need a system rated much higher. This is because when you calculate tongue weight for weight distribution you have to add in the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle...
