Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Seems solid so far but not much use yet. I appreciated all the installation videos. I used large channel locks instead of a pry bar to wrestle off the rubber hangers when lowering the exhaust system.

After a year weve used it with our bike rack a handful of times, including a couple 4 hour drives and some gravel roads. No issues so far.

The process of ordering was very simple and delivery was great next day that was awesome. I also loved the screw kit for the installation of the hitch you guys thought of everything having the spring wires that attach to the bolts for putting through the frame of the car made mounting so much easier and your video for mounting was spot on great! I’m so happy that I bought my hitch from you guys and this is the second time I’ve bought from you keep up the great work! Will definitely be back in the future! Thank you again!

by:

Price was excellent. I was able to follow the video and install this on my CX5 with some help during the last step. The hitch receiver has performed flawlessly and very happy with purchase. I use it to mount a bicycle rack (older heavier model bike rack).

by:

The hitch fits perfectly but 2 main important instructions were missing. We have to removed the whole hitch after finishing installing it because the hanger for 2016 Mazda CX-5 is different than the newer model. So we did a double job instead of just one and it could have been prevented if the instructions were there to begin with. Thank goodness we didn't lose the bolts when we removed it and reinstall it all over again. Don't get me wrong the hitch fits it was just annoying and pain in the butt that we had to go through that. They should have tried to install this with not just the newer model but all models including the 2016 models.

by:

This hitch receiver works perfectly with no issues. Installation on my 2023 Mazda CX3 was straightforward, though it helps to have two sets of hands. I have used it over the past year mostly to pull an 8x4 ft. trailer, hauling brush and building supplies. I have also used it to mount a bike carrier and had no problems. I'm completely satisfied with it.

Ordering from etrailer was great and teir Customer Service is truly outstanding. After ordering, I noticed two possible variants on how my hitch would mount. I sent a email, with my VIN, hoping to confirm. I got a actual call later that evening confirming I had the right part. Also. The time arrived quick, with all required hardware and paperwork and the DIY installation went perfectly. I will use etrailer for future needs.

2014 Mazda CX-5

The hitch, the quality of packaging, and the speed of shipping are all excellent. My advice for installing on a 2014 Mazda CX-5: 1) You really need two sets of hands, and it is best if you raise the rear of the car up some- some form of jack stands helps. 2. Having a jack to help raise the hitch and hold some of the weight is an advantage. The rest of the job is pretty straightforward and relatively easy if you have the tools. The exhaust bumpers, I am sure, would be easier to manipulate with the special pliers, but I used a small, 8-10" crowbar and some spray lubricant and was able to get them off without too much fuss. If you have all the tools, and hands, I'd say this is a 45"-1hr job. One man and it gets tougher, but doable.

by:

We bought the trailer hitch receiver to utilize a bike rack. The hitch receiver was very easy to install, seems very well built, and the install video provided by etrailer was incredibly helpful. While this could be installed with the vehicle on the ground (Mazda CX-5), we utilized ramps that gave us an extra few inches of work space which was helpful.

This is the second one of these I’ve purchased for a Mazda CX-5. To tell the truth, I bought a truck with a hitch on it before I installed this one, so I never installed it! However, the first one I bought was great. Fairly easy to install. Everything was there. Instructions were clear. The hitch arrived in perfect condition. Once installed it worked just as it should and felt very secure. Great product!

by:

It fit perfectly and the instructions were well written and correct. That doesn’t happen very often. I installed it by myself. I used wood blocks to hold it up while I lined it up and put the nuts on the bolts.

by:

The hitch is good quality and came with all the hardware and accessories needed. The same holds true for the wiring kit.

2016 Mazda CX-5

Product Was good and fit perfectly on my car.Installation is super easy as with instructions and videos. This is my first time installing a hitch so initially I struggled as due to lack of help. After a little research and with the help of a friend Installed in 15 Mins(Research and initials trail not counted).Things to remember.
1)Car ramps will help where we can pick from [hardware store].
2)Flat head screwdriver and soap water is super good option for removing Exhaust from hangers.
3)Rubber bushes should be on top hooks and facing front side of the car(Not back side to-wards trunk).
4)Remove one facia screw(plastic clip) for easy adjustment which was not demonstrated in the video but advised in the manual.
5)Better to keep the fish wires of the back bolts to avoid pushing them inside the frame.(C-retention rings will help where manufacturer is not providing).
6)Second person will make the job easy.

Paint Quality is very very poor which is pealing out as mentioned by others in this forum.
Installed my Kuat rack which comes with stabilizer and fits perfect.
yet to test on the roads.

Pics or not so clear.

I couldn’t be any happier with this purchase. The drawtite hitch is solid and is even hidden well beneath the rear bumper, so that’s a plus. It took the mechanics less than 30 minutes to install it since it was a custom hitch. I’ve always wanted a hitch specifically for carriers and bike racks, now I have one and am very satisfied with my purchase. Thank you Etrailer for all of the research you all do and for the very informative site. It cuts my work in half. Here is a photo of my Mazda with hitch installed and an overdrive sports rack hooked to it.

I am very pleased with this product!!! I have not had any issues, it’s been reliable and still looks like a bought it yesterday. Absolutely no rust and since I do not have a carport or garage, it’s constantly exposed to outdoor conditions in Western NC many love this area, it’s temperate rain forest. Anyway, I do not regret purchasing! Love it! I keep a 3- bike rack carrier hooked up at all times bc I ride a lot! Every other day or so. The bike I own is a radrover, so it weighs about 60lbs plus. Also, I have two regular bicycles for cruising, which are lighter, but regardless, the hitch has proven to be strong and durable. One happy customer.

This is the second Draw-Tite hitch receiver I have purchased from etrailer.com. Just like the last one, this was a good value for the money, was easy to install and does exactly what I needed.

The installation video was spot on. The parts fit exactly to my car.

I recommend etrailer.com to anyone who asks where to get towing accessories.

Also... They have great customer support!

by:

This is a great quality product with excellent installation support that I have come to expect from etrailer! My hitch receiver came with all hardware and ingenious "fish wires" to install this unit making it a simple procedure. For a person like me doing this in my driveway I can say that having an assistant, while not necessary, would make this install much easier. Other suggestions to future installers is that the latest etrailer video for this Draw Tite is a must watch. Additional suggestions are: leave all 4 rubber muffler hangers on the top frame hanger posts, twist the rearward pair to point to the front of the car before mounting the unit and have a deep and shallow (standard depth) 19mm or 3/4 inch socket for your torque wrench since room is limited.

The hitch looks great! Just like the other reviews, an extrat set of hands to hold the hitch into place really helps! Once the exhaust hangers were removed, the installation went very quick. As per instructions/video/other reviewers...remember to put the rubber hangers back into place on the frame mounts BEFORE putting hitch into place. Now I’m just waiting for my bike rack to arrive and I will be ready to roll!

@Jax Hey there, the bolts on a hitch receiver usually don't come loose assuming they were torqued down correctly according to manual's specs. Did you have a shop install this back in 2024? If so, I'd have them look at it and make it right. Otherwise, you can try spraying some penetrating oil a few days in a row to let them soak, then try to tighten the bolts all the way. Only being a year or so old, I wouldn't think the hardware would be unusable. Or maybe they got cross-threaded? that would be a different story :( Either way, sorry you're dealing with that. Rusty/seized bolts are NEVER fun.

by:

Works great as advertised. Install is 4 bolts so it can easily be done yourself. Manual, videos and instructions are clear, but it helps to have a friend to help you install as you'll need to lift the car up a bit.

Super. I appreciate the fast and accurate delivery, bonus points from a fellow logi. Everything is as expected, well packaged, and install was a breeze. Managed to do it all by myself, though it would be much easier with a helper handy. Well written instructions and clear videos to add to it. Thanks and can't wait to get camping with a small trailer.

by:

This hitch does NOT fit the 2021 Mazda CX-5. While it can be installed, it touches the muffler hangers. This causes a loud rattle in the car when you go over a bump. I talked to e-trailer about this and they recommended bending the muffler hangers or modifying it in some other way that they could not explain. If you have to modify your vehicle to make something fit, then I don’t think that counts as custom fitting.

This trailer hitch was, for me, very easy to install. I did not have any special tools but with only hand tools and not even jacking the car up I was able to install it in less than an hour. I did need my daughter to provide an extra set of hands while putting the first bolts in. I was very pleased with the quality of construction and ease of installation. It looks like the hitch came the car when I purchased it new. I would strongly recommend E Trailer.

  • Can an Adapter be Used to Carry a 2 Bike Rack in 1-1/4 Receiver on a Mazda CX-5
I do have a solution for you to carry both of your bikes with your Mazda CX-5 but unfortunately an adapter like part # HTAD isn't the way that I recommend going. Not only does it cut the weight rating of your trailer hitch in half, it will also cause your bike rack to have more movement during travel. Since we don't carry Allen bike racks we don't have an adapter so instead I recommend changing out your bike rack for something like the Yakima HoldUp # Y02445 which fits a 1-1/4" receiver...

So I pulled up an online copy of your owner's manual to see if I can help you make some sense of it. One thing is for sure, the terminology is pretty misleading and can be confusing. The main takeway, I think you need to be concerned with is the gross combined vehicle rating (GCWR). It also talks about the total trailer weight (TTW) or 2,000 pounds but when you read what they define as the TTW it gets too confusing. I think you can simplify it by using the GCWR which the manual states...
