Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Received the product very quickly and this is definitely a solid hitch. I had it professionally installed and they found some alignment issues with my 2023 BMW X1 that required grinding to get the fit. The professional installers also noted that there was an error in the instructions, where initially the assumed the bumper would not need to be removed for the install and it did require removal.

Super solid after a year. I literally never think about this hitch which is ideal. I use it just for my bike rack and it’s sturdy.

I had some issues finding a hitch for my BMW X1 2024; BM does not seem to make a hitch for this vehicle and within 2 hours of my home, all suppliers/garages were back ordered for hitches that would fit. A friend suggested I call etrailer and make sure what they offered was a ‘certified fit’, so Kate at etrailer mentioned this one. Kate suggested the garage should watch the installation videos to make sure they can actually install this, and so they did. I had it delivered to a garage that accepts to install hitches (even ones they didn’t order themselves). Long story short, this hitch was perfect for my BMW X1 2024.

I'll rate my new hitch for my BMW X1excellent. It's actually my 2nd hitch, as I mounted one on my previous car (Jetta Sportswagon).
I don't have a lift, but put the car on 2 wooden platforms to get it further 8-10 inches for ground to have more space underneath to perform the installation. Installation was straight forward. There was one little snag. The carriage bolt that are installed with the "reverse pull-wire technique" is slightly larger that 1inch (please see attached photo). I had bought a Milwaukee 1" hole saw (as per instructions) and I couldn't get the carriage bolt through the hole. A little filing around the edges of the hole cured the problem. Other than that - it worked like a charm and I'm very pleased with the installation. Tomorrow I'll get the electric wiring done and expect this to be fairly easy as well.

Its still going strong. No issues.

by:

Great fit. I had to use a file to make the holes a bit bigger in order to fit the mounting hardware. I painted edges of the holes with anticorrosive paint.
I used a table saw to cut the heat shield. I did only one cut. I did two short cuts on both ends and I bent the front part so it fits perfectly. No piece was discarded.

This Draw-Tite receiver went in perfectly on my 2016 X1 with the sport package. The hitch was great and is nicely tucked away as much as possible below the lower fascia. I combined this with a Tekonsha custom wire harness that was plug-and-play, for a flawless setup. And the X1 towed a 1,400-lb load (pictured) without any issues whatsoever.

by:

it is a good product.. once you get it installed.. The instructions and the video with it, says to use a 1" hole saw to cut your holes in the vehicle frame ... however, 1" is not big enough for the hardware. It needs to be bigger.. I could not get the spacers to fit into a 1" hole.. had to file it out so it was bigger.. and you talk about a chore... try filing on a hole around the exhaust. I finally got it, but it would have been a LOT easier if I had done a bigger hole. And once you do your 1" hole, you can't use a hole saw to make a bigger one... just saying. So a relatively easy job turned into a major endeavor.

I'm very pleased with all steps of this purchase and install.
The sales staff were all very attentive, with great communication with what I needed, the purchase, shipping and a follow up. The install was much easier after watching the e-trailer install video. I'm not sure how they could improve any of it.

by:

Excellent strength and accuracy of dimensions for BMW X1 F48. Easy install. Arrived a bit nicked up and needed touch up paint on the scratches. Instructions do not cover bumper fascia removal on M Sport model which has a very difficult to unsnap fascia. Very satisfied overall.

The challenge--to haul bicycles with a BMW X1. There aren't a lot of good options, given that very few bike carriers are recommended to strap onto the rear door, and few roof racks fit this vehicle. Hence, we ordered this product. I paid to have it installed, so I can't say how easily it mounted. The labor charge was $185. It fits beautifully, just peeking out from under the lower rear body panel.

One thing I didn't think about was weight. This hitch weighs around 30 lbs, not a trivial amount of weight on a vehicle of this size. Can I feel it? Yes, I think so. Is it a problem? Not for me. However, when added to my 40+ lb Yakima Ridgeback bike carrier and two lightweight bikes, I suspect it will be significant.

Overall, this is probably the best of the few available options for carrying bikes with this vehicle. Thanks again to etrailer.com, my go-to vendor.

Great! Excellent product

This was the best customer experience purchase I have had in years….from getting expert and quick advice over the phone from a product specialist before purchase to communication during shipping (which was insanely fast) and follow up afterwards from one of their customer service reps….etrailer is fantastic!!!!

This rack is great for my Yakima Ridgeback Bike Rack and my 2017 BMW X1! I purchased this rack a year ago from etrailer.com and the rack arrived quickly and in perfect condition. I went to a local trailer shop in NJ and they were able to install the rack with ease the same day . I primarily use the trailer for my Yakima Ridgeback 4 Bike Rack and things have been great! The only small issue I had is that the Yakima Bike Rack attachment mechanism is a little bit sharp and can scratch the inside of the rack if you're not careful; this happened the first time I used the bike rack. I was able to easily fix the scratch with some heavy duty spray paint and now that I am more careful with putting the rack on taking it off I have not had any issues. Definitely recommend!

We purchased the trailer hitch a couple months ago and had it installed on our 2016 BMW X1 at an auto shop that specializes in BMWs. The guys who did the installation were impressed with the product design and installation instructions. They said it took them about 90 minutes to do the install.

We are very happy with the way the installed trailer hitch looks on the car. We are using it with a Thule bike rack, and it has worked well the few times we have used it so far.

by:

this product is great. the unit mounts under the rear with relative ease. one heat shield can not be reused. but other than that it works like a champ. this hitch is mounted to two major bolts on the frame and two bolts that go through the floor. the installation is straightforward. but if you are not mechanicaly inclined dont do it.
i would not overload this hitch. otherwise great product.

by:
2017 BMW X1

Product looks solid and well designed. All hidden except for the 2" receiver. The instructions for the hitch were fine, but the instructions for the heat shield were poor and not usable. I basically had to keep trimming and trial fitting to get the outer piece to fit. Overall time to install was over 3 hrs and I have a lift and have done lots of work on cars. A lot of time was spent getting the heat shield trimmed and mounted.

by:

I’m very pleased with the trailer hitch that I ordered from you. My only problem was finding a local installer but after that problem was solved, I’ve been very happy using the product for my bike rack.

by:
2023 BMW X1

The product seems to be ok but the packing and delivery was poor. As you can see in the photo the hitch broke the thin cardboard box and was protruding out and was dragging on whatever surface it was rolled across. The paint is scraped down to bare metal in those areas.

by:
2017 BMW X1

This hitch receiver was straightforward to install and has worked great for everything that we have needed on our 2017 BMW X1. If I need hitch kits for other vehicles in the future I will definitely come to etrailer.com.

Were very satisfied with the product. Have primarily used it for a bike rack. Very clean look like a factory type install versus an aftermarket add on. Thanks!

by:

Super easy to install on my 2019 BMW X1 using the instructions provided. I was taking my time and all in with clean up it took about 2 hours. I bought 2 car ramps [online] to help raise the car up. Other than that just needed the right drill bit and tools.

I've been using it for a year now for bikes and it's been great. It rides low enough where it looks OK with the car, but not so low as to be a problem backing up driveways etc.

by:
2017 BMW X1

The instructional videos for etrailer.com are awesome. Very informative and thorough. This is the second hitch I have purchased and both installations have gone very well, I was able to accomplish the most recent install alone with no assistance.

Nice product fro Draw-Tite...

This was the fourth hitch I've installed from etrailer. Just like the first three it was easy. Instructions are plain and simple; follow them and you can't go wrong. Thanks etrailer :-)

  • Can Draw-Tite Max-Frame Hitch Hold Young Electric 2-Bike E-bike Rack On 2016 BMW X1 xDrive28i
Hi Flash; the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch # 76018 has a tongue weight capacity of 675 lbs which is more than enough for that bike rack and your e-bikes. The limiting factor is likely the tongue weight capacity of your vehicle. Make sure 2016 BMW X1 xDrive28i is capable of handling the weight of your bikes plus the rack. Any big trips planned with your e-bikes once you get the hitch installed?

  • Will the Draw-Tite Hitch 76018 Fit the 2023 BMW X1xDrive 28i?
Hey Robert! I checked with Draw-Tite and their Max-Frame Trailer Hitch item # 76018 will indeed fit the xDrive 28i model of the 2023 BMW X1. We haven't had a chance to install one on a 2023 yet, which is why we only have the 2021 photos. The Draw-Tite Hitch item # 76018 is custom fit and bolts to your BMW with included hardware. It is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver that has a 4,500 lbs towing capacity and a 675 lbs maximum tongue weight. What are you looking to do with a hitch?

  • Best Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch For 2025 BMW X1 M35i
Hello Stacy, thanks for reaching out. As far as the Draw-Tite hitch for the 2025 BMW X1, the # 76018 is the correct choice. The 76923 is only for the 2016-2023 model so that would not be correct. The # 76018 on the other hand is confirmed to fit the 2025 X1, so that is exactly what you will need. What will you be using the hitch for? Pulling a trailer, or a bike rack?

  • Comparing Draw-Tite Max-Frame and Hidden Hitch for 2025 BMW X1
Hey Stacy! You really won't notice any kind of performance difference between the Draw-Tite Hidden Hitch # DT54YR and Draw-Tite Max-Frame # 76018. The Max-Frame has a higher capacity but you're limited by the towing capacity of your vehicle so the Hidden Hitch will work just as well. The main difference here is the appearance. If you don't mind the receiver hanging down at the rear and want to save some money I would get the # 76018. If you want to maintain your factory look and only...

Hi Walter; definitely understand price being a big factor, especially if you're only using it for a bike rack, and we do have a good option for your 2023 BMW X1. The least expensive hitch for your X1 is the following part from Draw-Tite: - Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76018 The # 76018 has a nice hidden design so only the receiver is showing, helping your BMW keep its aesthetic, and is also the reason it has very good ground clearance. • Trailer Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2018 BMW X1
The hitch I recommend for your 2018 BMW X1 is the Draw Tite part # 76018 because it has the best capacities of the hitches we offer for your vehicle, has a concealed crosstube, and also has a bracket storing a trailer wiring connector. I attached an install video and picture for this for you to check out as well. The trailer wiring kit I recommend is the ZCI part # 119250KIT because it installs without requiring any splicing to your vehicle wiring and because it has the most reliable converter...

  • Will Draw-Tite Max-Frame Hitch Fit 2025 BMW X1 With M-Sport Package
Hi Mark; the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch # 76018 will fit your 2025 BMW X1. The hitch fits all models of the X1, including those with the M-Sport package. There will be some interference with the hands-free sensor but, it will still work by placing your foot on either side of the receiver as seen in the video below. If you installed the Hidden Hitch by Draw-Tite # DT54YR instead it would maintain the full functionality when the receiver is removed and not in use.
