Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

etrailer.com Technical Support

TRAILER HITCHTRAILER HITCH INSTALLATION WAS EASY, INSTRUCTIONS WERE VERY GOOD.

Have not installed yet. However, all the items seem to be in the box at first examination. The mounting looks like it will work. The shipping was fast. Getting your product out after it has been bought was also quick. Looks to be in good condition. No billing problems. Would recommend this site and product to others.

I watched the on line video before I started. What a big help. I had this hitch installed in 45 min. The fit was perfect for my 2010 Ford Focus. Also ordered the T-harnes for the lights, again it was very easy to install.Great fit.

by:

Suggest having a helper to hold up hitch while you attach the hitch under the car. Not all people have access to a car lift, so you have to work under car on your back. Could only torque one bolt this way. The others are as tight as I could get them, which is probably greater than the 50 ft/lbs they call for. Liked the fish wires supplied with the kit. I used a small vise grip on it just to make sure I didn't lose control of the wire.

by:

THE HITCH WAS INSTALLED WITHOUT INCIDENT HOWEVER I WAS NOT TOLD THAT HITCH LACKED A BALL AND BALL HITCH ARM/MOUNT AND DUE TO ITS VERY SMALL SIZE AND DIFFICULTY IN LOCATING ONE AND THE COST OF THE BALL AND MOUNT, ANY SAVINGS THAT I INITIALLY ENJOYED WERE TOTALLY NEGATED BY THE WHOLLY UNEXPECTED EXPENSE.

by:

First off I would have given this an excellent rating however... part way through the install I realized the left attachment arm had been bent! Must have happened during shipping. So after some slight modifications (bending) it went in as intended. The wires included in kit to pull washers and bolts through frame rail make this install a snap. I did this by myself in driveway on the ground in about an hour. Would have been a half hour if it weren't for it being bent. I think if Etrailer is the one packaging these things, they need to add some foam to box to keep it from slamming around in the box.

by:

Everything was going fine until I tried getting the last two bolts in.These are the bolts that are behind the bumber. The holes didnt line up on the drivers side. I had to drill frame in order to get bolt thru.
All in all it worked out ok.Instructions were easy to follow. For both the hitch and the wiring kit. This is the second hitch I've puchased.I would purchase another hitch if needed for another auto.

Ford Edge

Straightforward install and a perfect fit, of course. The estimate of 5" from hitch bolt hole to outside edge of bumper is pretty accurate. I chose this hitch because my bike rack protrudes 6" from the bolt hole and with this hitch I have about an inch of clearance from the bumper to the rack. (I chose this hitch over the Curt because the Curt sits an inch deeper under the car. I'm glad I did because it would have been a pretty tight fit if the rack were an inch farther under the car.)

If at all possible have someone hold the hitch for you while you bolt it to the car (like they do in the video). I found myself home alone and it was tricky to do it solo while laying on the ground under the vehicle. Though I did eventually discover that the notch in the Focus jack that is meant to hold the car also holds one end of the rack perfectly while you work on the other end. Still, performing the install alone meant that it took me more like 90 minutes start to finish rather than the 30 that eTrailer estimates.

Make sure you have a deep-ish 11/16" socket for the job. Probably 2 inches deep should do. I had to purchase one midway through the job (not included in the aforementioned 90 minutes) because the standard socket was bottoming out on the carriage bolts before I could torque them to spec.

I only removed the rear-most (closest to the bumper) exhaust hanger and was able to manage the job, but the rack bolt that ends up directly above the exhaust was difficult to torque down due to obstruction by the muffler.

The hitch is of excellent quality. It arrived quickly and safely, eTrailer.com's customer service and installation video were excellent, and the hitch does its job.

I recieved my order in a timely manner withthe free shipping I recieved with my purchase. The installation was very easy with the directions supplied by etrailer.com and I was able to use my hitch right away with the confidence in knowing I installed a quality product myself. I will certainly make future purchases from etrailer.com because of the money I saved and the great service provided!

I am amazed at how quickly the product came in the mail. It was packed perfect, and the directions couldn't have been written any more clearly! Took me about 35 minutes to do with the help of a friend. Would highly recommend this product and company to anyone!

  • Can I Tow Over 2,000 lbs w/ a 2011 Ford Focus?
No, and neither is your Focus. I'm not sure which model your 2011 Ford Focus is but none of them have a towing capacity over 2,000 lbs unless yours has a diesel engine. The Curt Hitch item # C11319 is a class I hitch which means it tops out at 2,000 lbs. The only other hitch available is the Draw-Tite item # 24805 but it's got the same specs. Since you are planning on towing you will also need a wiring harness item # 56014 and a ball mount kit item # e47DR. If you have any additional...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2008 Ford Focus
The Draw Tite Hitch part # 24805 that you referenced would be an excellent choice for a hitch to install the Swagman XC Bike Rack part # S64650 that you also referenced. This rack should sit low enough to allow you to install your bike racks easily, but not so low that you would have ground clearance problems. Check out the review video I attached for the bike rack. As far as a shop to install the hitch, any local garage to you should have no problem installing the hitch. You would not...

  • Tongue Weight Limit for Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24805
Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24805, which you referenced, has a maximum tongue weight of 200 lbs. There are a few ways that you can determine the trailer tongue weight once it is loaded and ready to tow. The best way would be to use a tongue weight scale, # e99044, for the most accurate reading. Tongue weight is typically 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight, but not always. So if an estimate will not do using a scale or one of the methods in the link I have included to...

  • Fit of Draw-Tite Class I Trailer Hitch 24805 on 2008 Ford Focus
The Draw-Tite Class I hitch you referenced, part # 24805 is a fit for both the coupe and the sedan models of the 2008 Ford Focus. The hitch has a 2000 lb towing/ 200 lb tongue weight capacity (tongue weight is the amount of weight pushing down on the trailer ball). This capacity could be limited by the towing capacity of your Focus, if it's less than 2000 lbs. Check your owner's manual or with your Ford dealer for the towing capacity of your Focus. To complete your towing set-up, you'll...

This is a Class I trailer hitch receiver with a max Tongue Weight of 200 lbs and a max Gross Trailer Weight of 2,000 lbs. I have attached an installation video for you to check out of this hitch being installed on a similar Focus.

  • What is the Tongue Weight Capacity of Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch 24805 for a 2009 Ford Focus
The capacity you are looking for is the tongue weight capacity. Tongue weight is the term used for how much vertical load can be on the hitch. For trailer hitch # 24802 for your 2009 Ford Focus the tongue weight capacity is 200 pounds. You will want to check the Focus owners manual to see if it has a tongue weight capacity. Whichever is lower, the hitch or the vehicle, that is the capacity you will need to go by. I have included a link to a video showing installation of the hitch and a...
