This Dutton-Lainson single-speed, light-duty winch is designed for multipurpose horizontal pulling operations.The description of this item is confusing; it states both wire rope & polyester strap leading me to think that it may include the rope/strap. This is also furthered by images showing the winch with the nylon strap. Before placing my order I contacted customer service and asked them twice, I was told by one person that the strap was included. I was also told that if it was missing for whatever reason they'd send me the strap. Another person, via phone, told me that it was not included.
At this point it was either place the order and possibly be missing the strap, or place the order and have an extra strap for no reason which I would have to ship back on my dime to return.
I placed my order just for the winch, banking that the first customer service person was correct and the strap was included. When I received the order and no strap was included I contacted customer service and was told that I was misinformed by one of their customer service reps and that they could send me a prepaid shipping label to return it. I then asked if instead I could get some sort of discount or free shipping on placing the order for the strap I needed for the winch, since I was given the wrong info. I was told no both via chat and phone. Customer support would rather pay to ship the item back to them, rather than giving me free shipping on my new order for the strap and also gain an additional sale. Makes no sense to me.
Overall this item gets one star because of the poor description/images. Hopefully etrailer updates this listing, or at least this review helps someone get all the right parts they need without having to reorder/wait longer.
Got the product. Looks just like the picture and works just like a winch.
I have an elevated house on the Texas Coast and I plan on using this winch to hoist my kayak up from driveway under the house to the crossbeams supporting the house. Will mount the winch on one of the pillar post with lag bolts, fasten the rope from the kayak hoist to the winch, and turn the handle. No pulling or lifting.
Combined bunk rollers and a keel roller (along with winch and lumber) to create a way to lift and store our 22' kayak. Works like a dream, though the winch does show some slight signs of rust. Not a huge surprise given our location on salt water.
Winch is well made. A great value. I've installed it on my garage wall and using it to hoist my kayaks up to the ceiling where they are stored. Works great! Now I don't need a second person to help.
Came with a cable with clamp, which was unexpected. I will use with a strap which mounts to the wheel with a bolt, which was include with the strap, which I had to cut shorter by a 1/4 to clear the winch rotation.
I am extremely happy with the quality of your hitch and that it is American made!
I am going to mount it to use as the mechanism to raise and lower my fish basket into the lake!

Good product. Still working perfectly.
These are used with an external tent trailer pole and rope lift system sold here locally in Oregon City Oregon. They worked flawlessly last year- stone axe simple. That's a good thing! Will be used again in a couple of weeks. So much more reliable than the ridiculously complex internal cable hoist. What a broken, snarled up mess! I pulled them all out and just use these now!
Box was beaten up but no damage to ite ms
The winch arrived promptly and was easy to install; I have used it for a year without any trouble. In May the winch post on my trailer broke and I had to replace it. The winch was easily moved to the new winch post and work perfectly.

The winch continues to work great!
Great replacement winch for my small sailboat trailer. The cogs in my old winch were broken, so having a smooth working winch is amazing. The swiveling plastic ergonomic handle is much better than my old bent steel bar handle. Dimensions of the winch mounting holes on the website would have been helpful. I ended up having to drill a 3/8" hole in my trailer frame to mount it, which was not a problem, but it just wasn't a quick bolt-on replacement.
I bought this as an exact replacement for the damaged winch on my small boat trailer. Very well constructed and was easy to install. Haven't used it yet, but don't expect any issues either.
I bought the 2" wide x 15' long strap made by DL as well. Strap fit nice and was perfect length, but it did not come with correct bolt to use with this winch.
I ordered the trailer winch as part of the school project for my daughter. The winch which was needed to pull a smaller weight was more than she needed but in general the winch was of great quality and worked out very well. Worked out well! Thank you.
This little,winch is going to the Goats, show goats that is. A few cranks of the handle will raise Jello. my contending Grand Champion Full Blood Boer nanny in her grooming lift for a final brushing before the big show.
Perfect little winch, at the right price for this run of grooming stands. Pics available later.

I bought the winch last spring specifically to attempt to straighten up a 25 foot tall spruce tree that had been bent over by high winds. Using the winch, wire cable and a little engineering to moor the winch, the task was successfully completed and the tree is doing just fine.
Used winch to replace large umbrella plastic geared crank. Very solid winch, compact, and solved my problem of old crank breaking. Lokks like this will last a lifetime.
Item DL14125 is a good item and it will work for me but I was hoping the reel had a slightly larger capacity. It is made with good material.
I made a small derrick and bolted the winch to it to raise my pump and piping from my water well. I am using 1/4 inch poly rope and the reel will hold only 50 feet of rope tightly rung.
I replaced a 20 year old winch on my trailer with this product. Although I had to drill a new hole to mount, the operation of the winch is flawless. I also odered a winch strap to replace the rope on my old winch. One problem, the strap needed to be mounted to the winch with a screw, that was not provided. It would have made things easier if the screw had been included!
Am very happy with what l got. Am using it to fix my large free standing unbrula. The regular device that makes it go up and down somehow malfunctioned. Because it is a sealed unit completely enclosed, l had to cut into the metal. Took the cord that goes up through the center of the arm out. Put a couple pulleys on and used your wench to make it go up and down.
Nice replacement item. The 20ft strap will not fit on this model though I would have gotten the 15ft strap for this unit.

Good winch. Handle can only be installed on one side only (left); not a huge problem, but it would be nice to have the option to install the handle on either side
