Don't replace your rack just because your hitch is bigger. This adapter lets your 2" Yakima rack fit a 2-1/2" hitch, so you don't have to buy new gear just to make your setup work.

Highlights

  • Use Your 2" Rack with a 2.5" Truck Hitch: Adapts a 2.5" receiver so your Yakima 2" bike rack or cargo carrier fits without replacing your gear.
  • Keeps Your Rack Sitting as Designed: Reduces hitch size without adding rise or drop, so your rack maintains its intended height and clearance.
  • Threaded Connection for a Tighter Fit: Installs with a threaded hitch bolt that pulls the rack tight to reduce wobble and prevent shifting while you drive.
  • Lock It to Your Vehicle: Includes a HitchLock to secure the adapter and help deter theft without needing a separate lock.
  • Extended 10" Sleeve for Added Support: Longer design adds more contact inside the hitch for better support than shorter reducers.

Features to know about

Make Your Rack Fit Your Larger Hitch

If you've upgraded to a 3/4-ton or 1-ton truck, your 2" rack won't fit a 2.5" hitch. This reducer sleeve fixes the fit so you can keep using the rack you already own instead of replacing it.

Get a Tight, Stable Connection on the Road

A loose hitch setup can shift while you drive. The threaded hitch bolt pulls the rack tight against the adapter, so it stays in place and reduces unwanted movement.

Support Your Setup Without Changing Its Position

The 10" sleeve provides more contact inside the hitch for better support, while keeping your rack at the correct height with no added rise or drop.

Video Transcript for Review of Yakima Hitch Adapters - Hitch Reducer - Y74MX

Hi everyone. Steve here with etrailer. Let's take a look at the Yakima hitch receiver reducer sleeve from two and a half to two inch, and it's 10 inches long. So if you have some of these newer vehicles, primarily trucks, they're starting to come with two and a half inch hitches versus the original two inch by two inch one that we've used for many, many years. This basically just slides into that two and a half inch hitch receiver tube, and then it gives you a two inch by two inch receiver tube that you can use for your Yakima two inch bike rack, cargo carrier, or other brands that are out there if they will fit into that same two inch by two inch opening. Now you get the two keys, the lock core here, and you get the threaded pin and clip here.

For the back here, and again, you'll just slide this into your hitch receiver on the back of your truck, that's two and a half inch. You'll basically tighten this all the way down. Then you'll use the included wrench and you'll tighten it really, really snug. And then on the opposite side, you'll put the clip in just in case. If it we inchesre by some miracle able to unthread itself, it wouldn't be able to pull back out.

Then you have your lock core and key here. You'll unlock that, pop it on, lock it in place, pull the key out, and now you have a locked hitch that no one can get into and steal your bike rack or whatever you have in place. So it's a very nice simple design, very easy to use, easy to unlock and lock whenever you need to get into it. Simply insert the key and it comes right off. And once again, if you're removing this, you take the wrench, loosen the threaded hitch bolt here in the back and take it off, and then it would slide right out.

Now you will need to use a standard hitch pin and clip here. It's a five-eighth inch hole. And again, if you're using this for those accessories, you already have that hitch pin and clip. Again, this is just including the extra one needed to go through that two and a half inch hitch that's on your vehicle. Well folks, that's gonna wrap up our quick look together at the Yakima hitch receiver.

Reduce your sleeve from two and a half inch to two inch. I'm Steve with etrailer. Thanks for watching and have fun on the trails.

I called to insure I could use the sleeve "without" extending the sleeve. When the sleeve is inserted all the way in, the holes do not line up.I paid a premium for the screw bolt and the steel construction. It seems the inner dimension is slightly to large for the 2 inch receiver. The bolt will only work when extended. I needed the sleeve, so I can't return it. I was able to use a wood wedge to minimize the movement

Disregard the other negative comment. I don’t think the poor fella understood how this was engineered.
Great quality product very self-explanatory. Reduced my 2 1/2 inch receiver to 2 inch for Mountain bike rack.

Works perfectly reducing my 2 1/2 inch receiver to 2 inches. The included bolt threads through the back hole and snugs the reducer tight up against the hitch receiver so there is no looseness or rattle. My bike rack then slides in perfectly to the reducer. Adds a few inches away from the tailgate on my truck keeping my bike from contacting the tailgate. I have a Thule Epos 2 bike rack mounted on this.

  • How to Use a Yakima Vertical Bike Rack w/a 2-1/2" Hitch Receiver
Hey Don. The Yakima HangTight Vertical Bike Rack item # Y59GR uses a 5/8" diameter threaded bolt to attach to a 2" hitch. This bike rack has threads in the shank so you can't use a standard hitch pin. To mount the HangTight Vertical Bike Rack item # Y59GR in a 2-1/2" receiver you have to use the Yakima Hitch Receiver Reducer Sleeve item # Y74MX. This sleeve is designed specifically for Yakima bike racks and is approved for the Vertical ones as well. It includes a longer threaded hitch...
