Video Transcript for Hands-On with the Hughes Autoformers Ground Neutral Bonded Plug for Generators

What's up everybody. It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna be checking out this Hughes Autoformers generator adapter plug. So what this is gonna do is you're gonna plug this into the floating neutral generator we have here, and we're gonna go to plug in our surge protector. It's gonna detect that it doesn't have a floating neutral anymore. Let check it out.

So what this is gonna do is sometimes when you use one of your smart surge protectors with the lights on there that give you the code. Sometimes you won't allow you to use the power because it says there's an error, which you have a floating neutral or an open ground. It's gonna detect that and think it's not usable power. So what this does is this is gonna plug into the generator here that has the floating neutral and it's gonna create a bond. So then it doesn't have that floating neutral anymore.

Then these codes should say it's all clear and should have power. So let's test it out. We're gonna plug in a surge protector see what codes it's pulling up. You can see right here with the one yellow light means there's an open ground. So it's letting you know, there's an error, thinks there's an error.

We can change that by plugging that adapter in route to unplug the surge protector first. Plug the adapter in. Now replug in the surge protector. And let's see what it says. Looks like we've got two yellow lights.

It's got a good connection, so it's good to go. Overall, I think this adapters is good to have especially if you aren't on soft ground where you can actually ground your generator, these Champions have floated neutral. So you do need to ground them. If you're not on that kind of ground where you can do that, let's say you're tailgating in a parking lot. This will be really good to plug that in, that way at least you have a bonded neutral and you can use your generator. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out, and hope this helps..

Worked as stated and what I needed for the Hughes EPO Power Watchdog to work with a generator.

by:

Just used it last night for the first time. We have a Wen 3500 inverter generator and with the floating neutral ground I was not able to get my Watchdog surge protector to work last week. I plugged the Hughes Autoformers Ground Neutral Bonded Plug into my generator and everything worked perfectly. I ordered it from Etailers on a Monday and had it in my hand by Thursday. Thank you.

It solved my neutral ground issue when using my HOnda generator with my Airstream trailer

It fixed my issue. I have a new home (modular) and the furnace wouldn’t run off generator. With this plugged in I was able to plug my furnace into my portable generator and it worked. Nice to have an emergency backup!

This product saved me! I had just bought an expensive Honda EU3000is generator and I found that it wasn’t working with my high efficiency furnace. Only the fan would come on without the burner. Come to find out the generator has a floating neutral. I plugged this baby into one of the outlets on the generator, ran a chord out of the other to the furnace and what do you know the bonded signal did the trick! Furnace runs like a champ. Very happy!

This product continues to do the trick after a year. Without it my generator would have made a nice addition to the dump since the only reason I got the generator was to power my furnace in the winter. Thanks again for giving my generator a bonded signal!

Product is great, works well. The customer service was outstanding! Through no fault of etrailer, or mine, the post office did not deliver the first package. USPS said it was delivered, but it did not show up. When I emailed to discuss the situation,, Mackenzi responded quickly with procedure. I did have to file a police report since USPS said it was delivered, which is understandable, but a second package was shipped quickly. Again, not their fault, but they responded quickly and professionally, which is what impressed me.

by:

The order was fast.At this moment I have not tried the plug. Next week I will let you know. Thanks

by:

Great product!

My newer furnace has grounding protection, with this in place I can run my heat during a winter power outage without issue using my generator. For those with generators have your furnace wired in a way that you can plug It in by wall outlet. One extension cord and we were set.

  • Watchdog Surge Protector Compatibility With Generator Use
The Hardwired Power Watchdog Surge Protector with Bluetooth and Emergency Shut Down - 50 Amp Item # HU27FR is compatible with generator use. One thing you will have to note is that some generators have a ‘floating neutral’. This might cause the Power Watchdog EPO surge protectors or any other EMS surge protector to give you an ‘open ground’ or ‘open neutral’ error code and prevent power from going into your RV. If this is the case with your generator you can resolve this by plugging the...

  • Can the Power Watchdog Surge Protector with Bluetooth Be Used With a Generator
Yes, the Power Watchdog Surge Protector with Bluetooth, # HU47FR, for 50 amp and the 30 Amp version, # HU97FR can be used with a generator. However, many generators (portable) have a floating ground/neutral. If you do have a floating neutral generator then you will also need the Hughes Autoformers Ground Neutral Bonded Plug for Generators, # HU33FR to bond the neutral and ground thus preventing an open ground or open neutral error fault to occur.

  • Is the Hughes Autoformers Voltage Booster with Surge Protection Compatible with a Generator
No, the Hughes Autoformers Voltage Booster with Surge Protection # HU24FR will not work with your inverter generator. It is designed to be used with a pedestal at an RV park, not a generator. We do not have a voltage booster that will work with a generator. But if you are wanting a surge protector that works with a generator you can use the Power Watchdog Surge Protector # HU27FR. One thing you will want to note is that some generators have a ‘floating neutral’. This could cause the Power...

The AC and DC sides of the Progressive Dynamics 4000 Series Mini RV Converter w/ Charge Wizard and AC/DC Distribution Panel # PD4045KA would be grounded separately. If plugged into shore power you'll have ground at the pedestal. Generators will typically require an earth ground, whether that's a wire ran to a stake in the ground or a grounding plug like # HU33FR. All AC components ran to the power center will ground to bus bar in the power center and out to the shore or generator out. All...

  • How Can I Power My Camper From a Generator With the Hard Wired Watchdog Surge Protector?
As I am not sure of your specific camper there are a couple options to check out. First the Hughes Autoformers Ground Neutral Bonded Plug for Generators # HU33FR is designed to allow you to plug into your generator without causing the Power Watchdog Surge Protector # HU27FR to fault. The plug inserts into an unused outlet on your generator to create a neutral to ground bond. If your generator is an onboard unit that is hardwired to the camper you will want to install the surge protector...

  • Can The Hughes Autoformers Ground Neutral Bonded Plug for Generators Be Used On A Power Pedestal
If the open neutral occurs in the campground pedestal you're only getting one hot line, and there's not a return path for the electricity, so there would be no current flow. If you have an open ground it means that there isn't a ground connected to the receptacle and this could cause damage to your trailer if there's a power surge. The Hughes Autoformers Ground Neutral Bonded Plug for Generators # HU33FR is only designed to plug into a 15A AC socket on a generator with floating neutrals...

Yes, the Portable Power Watchdog Surge Protector with Bluetooth - 30 Amp, # HU97FR can be used with generators however, many generators (portable) have a floating ground/neutral; so you will want to determine this with yours as you may need an added item. If you do have a floating neutral generator then to use this EPO (emergency power off) you will also need the Hughes Autoformers Ground Neutral Bonded Plug for Generators, # HU33FR you will need this item to bond the neutral and ground.

  • Will Hughes Autoformers Voltage Booster and Watch Dog Work on a House with Generator
The Hughes Autoformers Voltage Booster with Surge Protection part # HU24FR and Power Watchdog Surge Protector with Bluetooth and Emergency Shut Down part # HU77FR are designed for trailers but so long as you don't try to pull more than 30 amp through them it would not be an issue to use them on a home with generator. The booster is basically a step up transformer, that will boost voltage 2% all the time, and if/when your voltage is low 113V or lower, it will go to a 10% boost. The watchdog...

  • Surge Protector for Trailer With 15 Amp Service
Since a 15 amp RV surge protector is not available you can use the # HU97FR you were looking at. Typically you want to match the rating on the surge protector with the service on your trailer, but the 30 amp won't have any issues with your 15 amp. This will require an adapter so you can use the # A10-1530ARDVP. The Honda EU2000i is a floating neutral generator. • Troubleshooting An Open Ground Error When Using A Surge Protector With Generators
Your generators have a floating neutral so that's why you're receiving the open ground error. The solution to this is to plug the Hughes Autoformers Ground Neutral Bonded Plug for Generators # HU33FR into an open 15 amp outlet on the generators. You CAN NOT plug this into any outlets in your Lance 650, only on the generators. These plugs will clear your open ground error and allow your surge protector and generators to properly function.
