Jeff: Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this tailor-made 20" long steel gas strut for boat hatches. Now, this gas strut is designed to replace a worn out or damaged strut on your boat's hatch lid or compartment door. It'll basically extend to ease the lifting of your hatch lid, and it will compress to gently close your hatch without slamming. It is a heat-treated steel construction, makes it very durable.

Has a corrosion resistant coating on it that won't rust even in saltwater areas. And it is a ball and socket installation. Basically, it attaches to the ball studs on the inside of your boat's hatch. The connection type is a 10 millimeter ball socket. Basically, it easily installs in minutes.

There's no special tools required.Just want to zoom in and show you the ball socket we're talking about. There's the socket that'll go on to the 10 millimeter ball. And basically to install this, all you have to do is remove your old strut, and then on this one, you'll see the C clip that goes around here. You just put a small screwdriver underneath there, pry up that C clip. You don't have to pull it off, you just pry up enough to relieve the pressure on the socket in there, and then just insert the socket onto the ball stud, push it down and then push the C clip down to lock the struck to the ball.

Very simple do, and you do the same on the other end also. Now, when installing this, you do want the inner rod portion right here facing down, and it is recommended to replace these gas shocks in pairs. I do want to give you the length. The length is measured from the center of this ball socket to the center of the one at the other end. So there's your 20" measurement. The compression force on this shock is 50 pounds and it is for a quantity of one strut. But that should do it for the review on the tailor-made 20 inch long steel gas strut for boat hatchets..
