When replacing gas shock on your vehicle or RV, you will want to make sure you are buying a replacement with the exact same extended length, compressed length, and pounds of force. This information is usually printed on the shock. Lengths are measured from the center of the ball joint used for mounting. If you are planning on installing gas shocks on something for the first time, identifying the shock you need requires fairly complex initial calculations, so be sure to do your research to avoid purchasing a shock that will not fit your application.

Video Transcript for Review of the Gas Shock-372-4033-30

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com and we're going to be looking at the gas strut. This is to replace a gas strut that's been bent, damaged, or punctured. Something's happened to it on a lid or a door, so it's going to help to hold that up so you can load things in without it coming down and hitting you in the head or hitting you on the hand and also help to lift that door if it's a little bit heavier. This is a 30-pound gas strut so that's the amount of force that it can push up. It cannot be compressed by hand, so whenever you're putting this on there, you will need to have that door open. As far as the length, it is a 18-inch length overall.

That's going to go from one end of the attachment to the other.I'll show you that with my handy dandy tape measure here.Going from about the center of one attachment point to the center of the other, that's where we get our 18 inches from when it's fully extended, and then whenever it's fully compressed, the length is going to be about 11-1/2 inches. Again, the force of this puts out is 30 pounds. It's a black nitride finish, so it should last you a long time. But that's pretty much all there is to it for this guy. As far as getting it installed, we'll just need to take off these clamps at either end.

The packaging comes with some instructions on how to do that. Basically, just use a screwdriver and a screw to pry that little clamp out, put it over the stud, pop that back in there. You should be good to go. As far as other similar gas struts, we do have other configurations, different weight capacities and things like that, and also different lengths. So, if this doesn't quite meet your needs, we do have a lot of options, so check them out.

Thanks for watching.

The product you sent does not comply with the listed specifications; that is, the extended length is 18.5", not 18", and the compressed length is not 11.5"; rather, the length is 12". Bottom line: when installed my door will not close.

I am sorry that this is not working for you. I have gotten in contact with our dimensions team and they have confirmed that the dimensions are supposed to be measuring center on center of the mounting points, the expanded length is 18 inches and the compressed length is 11.5 inches. If you were to measure this not from center to center, the overall length not from center on center was 19 inches and the compressed was 12.5 inches. We are currently working on getting a diagram of the exact measurements on the website for future customer convenience.

by:

They were great to work with.
Thanks
again.

by:

worked for what we needed it for. would have given it 5 except we had to buy adaptors for ends to fit on our four wheeler.

by:

Exactly what I ordered and swift delivery. Doing business with e trailer is and has been a pleasure.

by:

Shocks fit perfectly. Easy to install.

The Stabilus shock holding the 22" door of our bumper pull trailer open was weak. Mild wind would push it shut. This shock fit right onto the existing ball joints. A small blade screwdriver pried the "c" clip back, allowing me to slip the socket over the ball, and the clip snapped into place. Maybe 30 seconds and the shock was installed.

The biggest challenge was determining what force I needed in the replacement. The existing shock had the model information scraped away where it rubbed on the door threshold. No where could I find on the etrailer site what force a small door shock should be. I ended up chatting with an RV service tech I know, who looked it up in his parts catalog. Turns out 10 lb force is standard except for large RV doors. I would suggest etrailer.com add this information on their online catalog. Maybe it's there and I couldn’t' find it? "Gas shock force needed for RV doors."

by:

Thanks for your email. I didn't get a notification that the product was delivered! (USPS failed to do so).
Received package as advertised and in a timely manner. I appreciate your assistance with the order. Because it was delayed I was very impressed with etrailer keeping me informed of status during the waiting period.
Thank you etrailer! I'll be back when need you again.

by:

Honestly, this is a 40lb gas shock. What more can you expect? I'm leaving this review for etrailer. Customer service is top notch, they notified me that this product was on backorder and offered to sub it out for a 20lb shock, but unfortunately for our application, a lighter shock would not work. They also contacted me when the shocks were delivered to make sure everything was good. That kind of customer service is hard to come by in todays world, and I sure am happy I found it here. Thanks!

by:

After installing, the door wouldn’t close due to the end connections being too tall. I ended up swapping the old end connectors, which are just on threaded ends. Now working just fine. Jayco Greyhawk 2020 Class C.

by:

Great service and advise on how to install. So many different ways to measure but Steve explained the correct method and it fit. Nice upgrade so the bed is easier to lift.

by:

The selection process was easy to follow. I needed gas struts with a greater lift capacity for our under bed storage due to the addition of a memory foam mattress. I was able to select a strut pair with the proper length and extension from the website. The struts were received quickly and were exactly what I needed. The bed now raises gently and remains elevated.

by:

Found bent.

by:

Shipping package was way too large for items shipped. One item said read enclosed instructions for installation. There was none.
Hopefully will get some info from etrailer online.

by:

Haven’t put them on yet but the ones I have changed were very easy with a helper to hold the bin door up

by:

The head that attached to the bottom door jamb was way to huge couldn't close the door I was able to switch the one from the old strut the thread size not the same I had to force it on most likely will pull off I ordered the 30 pound for my fifth wheel door if people ask the 20 pound model is the correct size but I chose the 30 pound my mistake

by:

I bought this for my boat's electronics box. It works very well. Hopefully it will hold up in the salt environment.

by:

Perfect fit, works as expected.

by:

Couldn't get the exact part I needed thru Amazon due to us being full timers and moving weekly. This part worked but I had to swap the connection off one end of my old strut onto this one so it would fit under the door.
