Hi, everybody, Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a brief look at this CURT custom fit, front-mounted, two-inch trailer hitch receiver. Now, this has been designed to fit your 2005 to 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee. And on custom fit parts such as this trailer hitch receiver, I do recommend taking advantage of our vehicle fit guide here at etrailer.com. Simply input the year, make, and model of your vehicle and our fit guide will confirm if this will work for you or if we have something comparable that will work for you. This two-inch, front-mounted hitch receiver is going to give you an attachment point for your hitch-mounted accessories, such as a winch, a spare tire carrier, a cargo carrier, a bike rack, and a whole lot more.
With this hitch, for instance, you won't have to worry about blindly backing your trailer in. You can just hook it up to this front-mounted hitch and drive it forward. Now, this does have a line pull of 9,000 pounds and a vertical load of 300 pounds and a gross trailer weight of 3,000 pounds. This hitch does feature a sturdy (metal clanging) square tube design, and it features a gloss black powder coat finish over steel. So that's gonna help resist rust and corrosion.
Now, this is going to be a bolt-on installation. No drilling is going to be required. But I just wanted to make you aware of the fact that the access holes may need to be enlarged by drilling, filing, or using a rotary tool. It's just gonna depend on your particular year of vehicle. And also, you will have to probably trim the front air dam or fascia.
That may be required for installation. And then, models with factory tow hooks may require the front grill and the bumper to be temporarily removed, and then the tow hooks permanently removed, and no access hole enlargement will be needed in that case. So all that to say I wanted to make you aware of that in regards to the installation. The instructions will guide you through that process. And as you can see, this does include a hardware kit as well to get this mounted into place.
Now, of course, the pin hole diameter is 5/8 of an inch. And you will receive lifetime technical support from us here at etrailer.com with the purchase of this front-mounted trailer hitch receiver. Well, I think that's gonna wrap up our quick look today. I do hope that our brief time together was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
I wanted a front mounted hitch receiver for my 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee to allow me to mount a surf rod and cooler carrier. The Jeep is already low hung in the front so I was concerned about the hitch receiver causing me to loose some clearance if it hung too low beneath the air dam. The installation instructions, reviews and pictures I found didn't seem to assure me either way. In my case the receiver ended up only about 3/8" below the air dam which I had cut an opening in as directed in the instructions. This was satisfactory for my needs.
The instructions were mostly clear and easy to follow but I found that additional trimming of the air dam was required due to interference with the front legs of the hitch receiver. The area trimmed is not visible but this added a couple of hours to the installation while I checked and re-checked to be certain trimming was required. I found a "copping saw" useful to trim the air dam.
One nit regarding the instructions is that there were "Options" mentioned like "enlarging" the pre-existing holes" and using alternate "fish wire" techniques, but there was no explanation of why you might choose to use the options.
The manufacture has some useful videos on their web site but the "technical support phone number" listed on the instructions (800-798-0813) did not work for me but failed in various ways and resulted in various error messages/results.
The hitch receiver seems well made and very sturdy and arrived in just a couple of days.
Originally I was hoping to find a receiver that mounted so as to be in the opening above the air dam giving it more height and not affecting ground clearance. That was not available but this works almost as well and I have an adapter that will permit additional height for the mounting of the surf rod and cooler carrier. This receiver will also provide a "recovery point of attachment" for my Jeep.
Had to drill out the rear mounting hole s.
Receiver was bent and dirty.
Products work as expected! Even not having my Jeep front hitch in stock etrailer made sure that I received it directly from the manufacturer within 3 days!
Good service and appreciated that they stick to their shipment promise and make even difficult things happen!

So simple of an installation, everything was as it should be. It helps if you have the right tools for the job too!
fast shipping
Would prefer it to not be soooo close to the ground, scrapes on rocks when not on pavement, will probably take it off soon.
Curt Front Hitch arrived promptly. By next day we installed. I have 2 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was an easy install on basic Laredo. Would have been more involved on Rocky Mountain model. Instructions were very useful. Neighbor recommended use of grinder on plastic body cover. Body is more stable/secure than before install.
Looks great easy to install somewhat 4 hours job Very happy
The order was delivered and the process was great throughout the whole order.

Hey Dave. It looks like if you don't have tow hooks you will need to enlarge the 2 rear holes on the frame. However, the instructions do suggest that you could enlarge the rear holes regardless based off preference.
