This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located in your rear cargo area on the driver's side. You will have to remove the floor coverings, storage trays, and some interior paneling to access this harness.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Powered Tail Light Converter

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. This converter is a powered unit that bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness. As a result, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Video Transcript for Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness Installation - 2017 Honda Pilot

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Honda Pilot, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the Hopkins plugin, simple vehicle wiring harness with 4-pole flat trailer connector. Part number HM43134. This is what our wiring looks like when it's installed. This is going to live inside of the vehicle. When you're not using it, you can simply roll it up, and store it right in your compartment with your jack. Reinstall the cover, and it stays protected. When you're ready to use it, simply hang it out.

You want to make you stay over this rubber seal. Stay away from any points of contact. Now this wire is made to run over this seam like this, so it will not be damaged. As you can see, we have plenty of extra wire to hook up to our trailer. This is going to come with an included dust cap.

It's going to help any of our metal connections from corrosion. This is what your wiring is going to look like when you get it. You're going to have your plug that's going to plug directly into your factory wiring on our vehicle. This is going to be your ground wire. Then you'll have your 4-pole flat, that's going to run all your lighting functions for your trailer. What's most important, is this box right here, this is going to be your converter box.

What this is going to do, this will protect your vehicle's factory wiring from any back feed, if your trailer has a wiring issue, and vice versa, it'll protect your trailer wiring from anything that your vehicle send out that may be negative.A couple things you are going to need: a flat head screwdriver, a 10 mm socket, and you're also going to need a 30 amp fuse. Now, your instructions don't mention this, but you are going to need this to get your lights to function on your trailer. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let me show you how to get it installed.First thing we need to do, is we need to remove this panel right here on the back of our floor. Now, your instructions tell you to take a bunch of panels out here, that's not necessary. Take a flat head screwdriver, we're going to pop this panel out first.

And this plug right here, is what we're looking for. Now, it's going to be normally right up inside in, and they may have tape on it. It might be taped to some other wiring up there. If you just reach up in there, you'll be able to feel it.Then you can get it loose, to where it's hanging out like this. Next thing we're going to do, is we're going to remove this panel here. Just going to pull on it. Pull it out. We're going to take the matching end from our plug, or for our plug, and we're going to feed it down and up underneath. Push them together until you hear them click. Next, we need to mount our ground wire. Want to make sure that we're either mounting this to a screw, that's on metal, or to sheet metal with a self tapping screw. So what I did, is I just ran my ground wire up the same way I did my factory wiring. I'm going to take my 10 mm socket, and there's a bolt right here, that would be a good ground. We're going to remove that bolt, put our ground wire on, and then reinstall the bolt. Then we can reinstall our panel. So now we need to secure our converter box. What I've don't to make it all little easier, is I removed the jack. You'll see some existing wiring right here. We're going to take a zip tie, a long zip tie, and we're going to attach it right to it. Now we can reinstall our jack. Next thing we need to do, is go up underneath the hood and insert our fuse.Next, underneath your hood, on your driver's side against the firewall, we're going to find this small panel. We're going to remove it. What you want to do is turn it over, and we're looking for a TRL Main, which is going to be this one right here. Take our 30 amp fuse, insert it in that spot. Then reinstall our cover. Now we'll test out our wiring using part number I26. Left blinker. Right blinker. Running lights. Brake lights. And that'll do it for the look at and installation on the Hopkins plugin, simple vehicle wiring harness with 4-pole flat trailer connector, part number HM43134 on our 2017 Honda Pilot.

I watched the video and had this installed in five minutes. Very easy to install and as always, eTrailer had the right item, quick shipping, and easy to follow installation videos. 529105

2016 Honda Pilot

Harness installed pretty easily, but it does not include a grommet so I had to cut and glue the grommet that comes with the car. Rather than drill a hole in the sheet metal for the ground wire, I just used one of the existing Phillips-head screws in the general area of the white connector ( I checked to see if it was grounded first with a voltmeter touching the 12V accessory socket in the back of the car). The biggest headache occurred when testing the four wires to see if they worked. With the engine running, I got no voltage readout, because you need a 30 amp fuse, which isn't included in the kit, and which is not needed according to the FAQ's on this site. I was only able to get a voltage readout when I put in the fuse. 546475

Very easy install in my Honda Pilot after watching your video! Really strange that they don’t include the 30A fuse that is REQUIRED to have the item work. After a stop at an auto parts store I was good to go. 691118

This kit does not include the necessary fuses to activate the Pilots tow package. Both the Tekonsha # 118760

and Curt # C56291

It was missing the fuse for the car 658606

Hopkins doesnt include the fuse, because in many but not all cases the fuse is already in place in the vehicle.

Super nice product. Easy to install only problem the bolt they said to put ground wire on the eye was to dmall for bolt. I just cut it off and replaced with bigger wire eye let. No worries. Maybe 10 mins to install 501860

Ask the Experts about this Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring

  • Recommended Trailer Wiring Harness for 2017 Honda Pilot
For your 2017 Honda Pilot, I recommend the Tekonsha 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118286 if your trailer has a 7-Way connector. If your Pilot has the factory tow package, then it should already have a 7-Way connector mounted beneath the rear bumper, which this would do a great job of replacing. Otherwise, even if your Pilot does not have the factory tow package, this is still a confirmed fit and will simply plug into the existing ports behind the driver side trim panel. I confirmed this with...

  • Comparing Trailer Wiring Harnesses for 2019 Honda Pilot
The difference between the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness # HM43134 and the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118760 is that the Tekonsha comes with the fuses to activate the tow package in your 2019 Honda Pilot while the Hopkins does not. If you take a look at the accompanying photo of the two parts you can see the included fuses; this is why I recommend going with the Tekonsha # 118760 to add a 4-way to your 2019 Honda Pilot. I have attached a link to the installation...
