Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's factory tow package wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in your rear cargo area.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way connector will be stowed in an out-of-the-way location within your cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plug on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Wiring harness worked just like roscoe. The directions provided were right on spot and had the trailer lights for my 2004 Ford Escape XLT working in less than an hour. Plug and play with no searching for wires, just the molded plug socket provided by Ford.

etrailer will always get my business. Happy in SC.

Still working as it should.

Great to find what I need right here!!

From
what I saw online, I was concerned that I was going to have to wire to the lights directly and whatever else to make a hitch connection. It was a relief that the vehicle was already pre-wired to tow. I had to test the wires from the vehicle to make sure, and once I saw this wire with the connection after looking up the specs on this vehicle I knew I would be good to go.

Great!

This review is for the etrailer and the personnel who work there. Troy H. was very personable and helpful. I wish all people were as nice and helpful as him. The people who got my refund due to a price drop that saved me an additional $12.69 over the already low prices accomplished it in1 day. Many thanks to all.

Dont know, I havent used it yet. All I can say is its still on my SUV and in great shape.

Saturn Relay

The product does what it should, and plugs directly into the existing harness. This will only work if your vehicle has the towing package installed. If your vehicle does not have the factory towing package, you will need an additional relay which can cost between $35-$100 depending on where you find it. If you plug this in and only the running lights work (no blinkers, breaks or hazard lights), you will need to buy and install the relay, or purchase a different harness that pulls signal from the brake lamp assemblies.

  • Overall Length of Curt Trailer Wiring Harness for 2001-2004 Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute
The Curt Harness for Your Tribute, part # C55255, is actually considerably longer than that. I had it measured in our warehouse and it's about 37 inches total.

  • Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2004 Ford Escape without Factory Tow Package
I do have some recommendations for you but you cannot use wiring harness # C55255 unless the 2004 Ford Escape has the factory tow package. The issue is either the factory connector this harness plugs into won't be there or, if it is there, it won't be active and additional parts would be needed anyway. For models without the factory tow package you would use a hardwire harness such as # HM48925 or # 46255. I recommend # 46255 because it is a powered converter which takes the load off...

  • Can Trailer Wiring Be Used When Flat Towing a Vehicle
The problem you are having is because the Curt 4-way kit part # C55372 is not for flat towing and is instead for towing a trailer which basically works in the opposite direction as what you are wanting. This kit is designed to control the taillights of a trailer connected to the vehicle whereas tow bar wiring is designed for receiving voltage instead of sending it. We don't have anything custom fit for your vehicle but the diode kits will work well. For lighting you can use the diode...

  • Hitch and Wiring for 2002 Ford Escape V6
Curt's 2-inch Class III hitch # C13506 is confirmed to fit all versions of the 2002 Ford Escape. I verified this with Curt's Fit Guide. If you also need a 4-pole trailer wiring harness you can use part # C55255 if you have the factory tow package or part # C55343 if the Escape does not have the tow package. For a Class III ball mount and 2-inch ball for towing you can use # C45036.

  • Why Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C55255, Is Not Working In A 2002 Ford Escape
On your 2002 Ford Escape you do not need the additional relay. That is only for the 2008 and newer Ford Escape. It sounds like you have the port, but do not have the tow package. Unplug the Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C55255, from your port on the vehicle and with a Circuit Tester Kit # PTW2993 check the vehicles port to see if you are getting current to all the pins in the port. If you have current to all the pins then the Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C55255, would be the problem. If you...

  • Fitment and Compatibility of Wiring Harness on a 2004 Ford Escape XLT
According to my information the wiring harness # 118426 is not a confirmed fit for your 2004 Ford Escape, but I do have a wiring solution for you. If your Escape XLT has the factory tow package then the wiring harness you will need is Curt # C55255. If your XLT does not have the factory tow package then you will need the Hopkins # 46255 wiring harness. I have linked all the products to this page for your convenience.

  • Replacement Wiring Harness for 2002 Ford Escape
If you have the Ford Escape equipped with a tow package you will want the Plug-N-Tow Wiring harness, part # C55255. For the Escape without the tow package, the T-1 Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118343 would be the correct fit. The T-1 Harness would install inline using the existing connections between the factory wiring harness and the taillight assemblies. We have a video of this part being installed on a 2002 Escape that I have linked below.

  • Troubleshooting Wiring Harness for 2002 Mazda Tribute With Tow Package
I would first go to the connector behind the paneling in the cargo area on the driver side, into which you plugged the wiring harness. Then, I would use a circuit tester on the factory connector to determine whether or not you are getting power on each of the four prongs. To do this, have a friend in the front of the vehicle flip the turn signals and press the brake pedal for you while you test each prong for power. If you find that you do not get a power reading on all four prongs,...

  • Replacement 4-Way Trailer Connector for a 2001 Ford Escape with Factory 4-Way
The replacement 4-Way trailer connectors for the 2001 Ford Escape with Factory tow package that we carry have square connectors, # C55255. If you follow your 4-Way wiring forward on the vehicle and it does have a square connector then you can use either of these replacements. If it does not then the only option would be to either splice in a new 4-Way using # 18252 or replace the whole harness using # 118343.

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for 2004 Ford Escape
If your 2004 Ford Escape came with the factory tow package the trailer wiring harness it would need is the part # C55255 which plugs right into a connector at the rear of your vehicle. If instead you do not have the tow package you would need to hardwire the harness in with a universal fit setup like the part # 119250KIT. What's great about this specific kit is that it does not require any hardwiring to install. It uses sensors that attach to the taillight harnesses instead of needing...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch For 2004 Ford Escape
The Class l trailer hitch that is designed to fit your 2004 Escape is part # C11106. This is a Class l and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. There is some drilling required when installing this hitch. You will need to drill into the trunk area at the rear of your Escape to install this hitch. The trailer hitch I recommend for your 2004 Ford Escape is the Draw-Tite Max Frame, part # 75118. This is a Class lll hitch and it has a 2-inch receiver opening. This hitch requires no drilling...

  • My Radio Clock Goes Out when Brakes are Applied
You may have a ground problem. In your situation, you have a ground that is strong enough to provide some lighting functions but not all. This is called a weak ground. When the taillights and brake lights are used at the same time, it creates the maximum amp load of the lights on the trailer. If a ground problem exists, it will show at this point. The places to check grounds are as follows: 1. The connector on the vehicle should have a ground wire secured tightly to a clean surface on the...

  • Installing Curt Wiring Harness on 2003 Ford Escape with Factory Tow Package
If your 2003 Ford Escape is equipped with the factory tow package, the built-in plug that is used to connect the Curt T-Connector Harness # C55255 that you were looking at will be located behind the driver's-side interior trim panel in the rear cargo area. The rear scuff panel will need to be removed to expose the connector. Once this connection is made you will have a fully-functional 4-Way connector to connect with and power a trailer's basic signal lights. I have attached the written...

  • No Brake or Turn Signal Functions on Curt Trailer Wiring Harness for a 2004 Ford Escape XLS
Curt trailer wiring harness # C55255 is designed to fit as long as your 2004 Ford Escape came with the factory tow package. If it did not, even if the connector is present in the vehicle to plug in this harness, it may not be fully functional. To determine if this is the issue you can use a circuit tester such as # PTW2992 to test the 4-Way. If you only have running lights and no brake or turn signal functions, then this is likely the case. You can try checking the vehicle owner's manual...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2003 Ford Escape
I do have a solution for you, however the 90635 trailer hitch you mentioned is a Hidden Hitch product that is no longer in production. For your 2003 Ford Escape, I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 75118. Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch were/are owned by the same parent company, so this hitch is very similar and will install in the same manner on your vehicle. This is a very nice Class III hitch that will provide a 2 inch receiver opening and a towing capacity of 3,500...

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a 2003 Mazda Tribute
We have several trailer wiring options that are confirmed to fit your 2003 Mazda Tribute, but the part # HM48895 that you referenced is not one of them. Instead you would want the part # 118343 if you don't have the tow package and part # C55255 if you do have it.

Installing this particular hitch on your Tribute should not be too difficult if you have average mechanical ability and access to a torque wrench. Since your vehicle has a few years on it, there is a good chance that there is some corrosion and road grime built up in the threads of the weld nut. You will need to spray a lubricant like WD-40 into the weld nuts and...
