Expert Reply:
If your 2004 Ford Escape came with the factory tow package the trailer wiring harness it would need is the part # C55255 which plugs right into a connector at the rear of your vehicle.
If instead you do not have the tow package you would need to hardwire the harness in with a universal fit setup like the part # 119250KIT. What's great about this specific kit is that it does not require any hardwiring to install. It uses sensors that attach to the taillight harnesses instead of needing to splice into them.
