Question:
My Escape did not have a factory tow package installed. Can I still use this C55255 kit?

I do have some recommendations for you but you cannot use wiring harness # C55255 unless the 2004 Ford Escape has the factory tow package. The issue is either the factory connector this harness plugs into won't be there or, if it is there, it won't be active and additional parts would be needed anyway.
For models without the factory tow package you would use a hardwire harness such as # HM48925 or # 46255. I recommend # 46255 because it is a powered converter which takes the load off of the vehicle wiring adding another level of circuit protection between the trailer and vehicle.
