Video Transcript for A Closer Look at the Extang CargoCleats Truck Bed Tie-Down Anchors

Today we're taking a look at the Extang cargo cleats truck bed tie down anchors. These nautical stye tie down anchors, clamp to your truck bed side rails and provide tie down points in your truck bed. They will work easily with rope, bungees, hooks or ratchet straps. Overall, they're a really nice design. You have multiple ways to connect whatever type of strapping that you want to use to tie down your gear. This will also work with any Tonneau cover. Without rails that attach to the inside of the truck bed rails.

We're looking at a glass filled polymer construction. It's very strong and durable. We do have a protective padding. So I'm going to loosen this up, it does come with the tools here. So it just comes with all the hardware you need for your installation.

But it also comes with this Allen wrench, so that way you can have the proper size for the bolts that the unit comes with.So basically, I'll show you an image here in a moment. You undo these bolts and that's going to allow this clamp to spread apart. And what that does is that's going to attach to the truck bed side rail. And once you have it in place, you just tighten the bolts back nice and tight to get it nice and secure. But on any point where this clamp makes contact with your truck bed, there's a nice, thick, rubber pad.

So the protective padding on all the contact points, prevents any type of damage to your trucks pain. It's also easily adjustable. So you can mount this anywhere along your truck bed rails. It's a simple, no drill clamp on installation. It includes the corrosion resistant zinc plated bolts. And the product's made in the USA.

I'm going to show you a picture real quick. These are the instructions that it comes with. This is the image I want to show you, so the portion right there that's dark, that's the actual clamp. And then this indicates your truck bed side rail. So you can see how the clamp goes around the down point of your truck bed side rail on the inside of your truck bed. And you have a clamp portion on the back, clamp portion on the front, tighten the bolts, and it just squeezes it all together. And again, we have the protective pads on all the contact areas, so it does not damage the finishing on our truck. Now when it comes to the weight capacity, we're looking at 500 pounds, two tie down anchors are included. And they are covered with a nice limited lifetime warranty.I just want to give you the measurement right here. This is how long each of the actual cleats are. So measuring edge to edge, we have a measurement of about six and three eighth inches to six and half inches long. So, plenty of area there to wrap some rope around or to get your tie off strap where it needs to be to secure your load. That's going to do it for today's look at the Extang cargo cleats truck bed tie down anchors.

by:

I really like these because they are quick to add/remove and have good holding power. They don't leave any marks in the paint.

by:

this is a great product. It is very versatile and can be used on my truck and trailer. wish I had found them sooner. I will be ordering more

by:

Excellent product especially for new mid-sized pickups without stake pockets, like the Ford Ranger.

by:

I haven't installed them yet but they were what I was looking for and at an affordable price. My outlets are currently on my light fixtures. The new fixtures don't have outlets. So this outlets are the solution.

by:

Would not fit my 2021 Nissan Frontier… had to modify it…still moves a little. I should have returned them. Contacted customer service but they basically said too bad… just make sure it will fit your vehicle properly…

by:

Excellent except for retro modifications needed for working around the lift rod on lift tonneau cover forward. Simple and quickly installs on the back area of the box. Highly recommend this product for multiple applications.

by:

i love these cleats. i worked with boats for a while and i bought these to make it easier on me to tie things in, but it also provided another point to attach a bungee or ratchet strap for bog loads. i would highly recommend. also easy to install

by:

It works! I personally wouldn't test the recommended limits, but for light duty tie downs (100lbs or less) more than meets the needs for a RAM truck bed.

by:

The anchors fit on my RAM 1500 truck with no problem or interference with my bed liner. The clamp on design holds tightly and they appear to be well made. I expect that they are stronger than the flimsy plastic bed rail they are attached to.

by:

The best tie down ever! I bought my first set 11 years ago. Extremely durable, very easy to install and do not get on the way of bed covers. I have used mine thousands of times to safely transport all kinds of building materials. I had to buy this set because I forgot to remove my old set when I traded my p/u truck three weeks ago. The Extang tie down will be the last tie down you will eve buy. BTW, they make a great gift! The best truck accessory I have ever purchased in the last forty years!

by:

Thanks for fast delivery. Installed very easily. Color matches my black truck. I needed a tie point in front because I have a tool box mounted behind the cab that blocks the factory anchor in front of bed. These can be moved anyplace along the bed. Would recommend.

by:

First off found etrailer very helpful on information on Extang CargoCleats from Victoria B and my order went very well from Katie M. Bought four for my 2012 Chevy Silverado and they fit great. I pulled on them a few good times and they did not move
These Cleats will be just great . Had all four on within 5mins. and you can move them backwards and forwards to different positions and then tighten back up on truck bed. Note: On my truck bed I do not have a spayed liner on it or do I have a top rail on the bed so not sure how they will fit if either of these are on your bed. I know etrailer will be more than glad to find out that answer for you though. Just ask them.

by:

I have a 1984 Truck and the rails on the truck bed prevent me from properly installing the Tie Down Anchors. I did manage them to fasten at an odd angle and used them for a brief period. They are still on the truck and I can use them for some purposes. They are strong and would work well when fastened as intended.

by:

I would definitely buy these again if you can confirm that they will in fact fit your truck without any modification. However, I have a 2009 Ford F250 and the sides of the bed rail on the inside are a bit tall for these cleats. I had to do some minor filing on the bottom of my bedrail of about 1/8 of an inch in a couple of small spots so the bolts with these cleats could pass underneath the bed rail and fasten as designed. Hence, I can't adjust the cleats to different locations on the bedrail. Once installed, they seem very sturdy. Despite the fact that I had to make some modification in my truck, I decided to keep the cleats.

by:

The Extang Cargocleats is more then I expected. They are light weight, durable and worth the money. etrailer shopping experience was great and shipping was fast. I placed my order on May 1st and received it by May 10th of 2018. I would like to also mention that they are well made. I bought some tie downs previously that were completely junk. But these are not junk, they are well made and worth every penny.

by:

Did not fit like they said on my 2011 F 150. Backer plate too thick. Had to make my own. If they fit on your vehicle they will work good, therefore 3 stars

They keep surprising me on how strong they are. I like them

by:

I have found this product very useful and use it on a regular basis. Though it can be removed at any time, I keep it installed for repeated use. I've tied down multiple items using bungee cords and tie down straps. I originally purchased 2 of these cargo cleats because my 2021 Toyota Tundra Pickup did not come with tie downs. Using these cleats, I do not feel that I am missing anything. I have a sprayed in bedliner and these cleats were still easy to install. When I trade in this pickup for another, I'm keeping these cleats. If they will fit your truck bed, I recommend them.

by:

It took me a while before I tried the stairs on our truck with camper. We have Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD and the combination camper, and truck seemed too close a fit and did not suit us. I know there is a hitch extension, but we often tow a three horse trailer and it was too much of a complication to buy more stuff. The same was true for tie-down cleats, as our caamper fits intothe bed too close to keep the cleat permanently installed. etrailer was great for responsiveness on purchase, and if etrailer had been a local store, I would have taken it all back for refund. Instead I have the stuff stored.

by:

Everything is fine. Quick shipment.

by:

Waste of money

by:

The CargoCleats will help solve a problem I have. I am 5'7'' tall and can barely reach the tie down loops in the bed of the truck (GMC Canyon). These will make it much easier to secure loads. They went on without a hitch. They are a quality product that are very reasonable in price. Very good value for the money. I did have to remove the 2 strips of rubber to get the correct fit because my truck has a plastic truck bed liner on the top of the bed walls which were making it impossible to get the cleats installed. Once the rubber strips were removed from the cleats, they went on in just a couple of minutes and fit perfectly. I am extremely pleased with them. I can highly recommend these cleats to anyone looking for another anchor point in the bed of a truck.

The cleats are working great. I use them very often and they meet my needs perfectly. I sure am glad I found them. I check your site frequently to see if there is anything else I need. You have a lot of excellent equipment and I know I will be using more in the future. Keep up the good work. It has been a pleasure working with your company.

by:

Parts are of good quality but would not work on my truck. The bottom lip below the screw holes that fits into the slot contacts before the pad above the screw holes does, and this creates an angle. Once you tighten the screws, the plate with the tapped holes flexes a little more at the top than the bottom, pulling it away from the mating surface and causing the cleat to slip off of the bed. These may work with some applications such as the truck with a bolt-in bed liner as seen on the "how to" video, but I would say their application is definitely not universal.

by:

Ordered these for my new to me truck because I haul a lot of things and needed a way to strap things down. Not having the traditional cut outs I found these and ordered 4 of them. I love them. They have earned their stars and stripes very well. Holding bungee cords mainly and staying steadfast in their attachment to the truck bed side walls. I have had to adjust them and tighten them down only once. Love these and highly recommend if you need a way to hold ropes or bungee cords across the top of your truck bed!

I have had to retighten and readjust them. Other than that they work wonderfully. My truck had no way to set ratchet straps or bungee cords across the top of the bed and these solved that problem and I haul so much and use them regularly.

by:

Fast shipping. Item arrived and worked as expected

by:

Haven't had the need to use them yet, but they fit well on my truck bed and look like they will serve well as a top-rail level tie down point. Can't give them 5 stars until I actually use them under load.
