Recommended E Track Rails for Adding Extra Tie Downs to a Car Hauler

Updated 04/13/2026 | Published 04/03/2026

Question:

I am interested in adding more anchor points to my Hodges Hauler car hauler. What do you suggest? I have seen two rows per side of the hauler body of e track before, total of four rows. However, it might be welded on. I was wondering about a bolt on solution. Has to be as rust resistant as possible, so I was thinking about the powder coated tracks.

Hey Gary, thanks for the information! The etrailer Horizontal E Track item # e85VR would be a great way to add additional anchor points. You can bolt these tracks directly to your trailer's deck using self-drilling metal screws like item # SL99FR. You can also use the etrailer E-Track Backing Plates w Hardware item # e76YR to secure them.

The etrailer Horizontal E Track item # e85VR are made of steel and powder coated for durability. Each one has a safe working load limit of 2,000 lbs.

How thick is your trailer's deck and what kind of vehicle's do you haul?

Jerred, Thanks for replying. I was asking about my Hodges Hauler, which is a truck that has a custom built bed to carry a car. https://www.hodgescustomhaulers.com The cars I carry can vary from about 3,000 pounds to 6,000 pounds. Some of them can be secured the traditional way of strapping the front end assembly and the rear axle. However, some are probably best secured by fastening down the tires or wheels. I do have a car trailer also, but I think I have enough connection points on it.

@GaryP You're welcome! Yeah, I went to their website when you first sent in your question. Those hauler's are really interesting and nice. The one's with etrac definitely have them welded to the deck.

The E85VR with the Hardware SL99FR have worked well for me & my e track is always in the elements. Its been about a year since I added new track, but only because I re did trailer. The old e track was 6 yrs old and was still very usable
