Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. Let's take a real quick look at this REDARC Alpha 50 amp in-vehicle BCDC battery charger with solar control. Now this is going to work with your 12-volt or 24-volt vehicle systems with standard or smart alternators. And this Alpha series is REDARC slimmest battery charger yet. So this is really gonna be a great option to consider if you do overlanding or boondocking.
And this is going to be compatible with AGM, gel, calcium, standard lead acid, heated lithium, and standard lithium batteries. And this does feature smart charging to help keep your batteries charged up and ready to go. And this is going to handle multiple 50 amp power sources. It's gonna prioritize solar to charge your secondary battery while topping off your standard with the excess energy. And it's also gonna be gentle on your alternator, even those smart ones.
And if for some reason your battery dies, you're just gonna open up the app, I'm gonna talk about in the next minute or so, press a button, and then give it about 15 minutes, and you'll have enough charge to safely start your vehicle and get back on the road. So this will monitor the temperature of your auxiliary battery. It's gonna adjust its charging rate to protect against overheating. The fins are going to help disperse heat that it generates while it's working hard for you. Now I mentioned the app.
And on your screen, I'm gonna pop up a photo here of what that app looks like. This is a picture of the app on my phone actually. And so you're gonna be able to connect this charger to the RedVision app via Bluetooth, and that's gonna help you monitor charging, customize settings, like input limits. It's gonna update automatically through your cell service or Wi-Fi. And so that's a...
And then that app is gonna be free on your, the App Store of your smartphone. And this is gonna be a pretty simple installation. You're not gonna have to worry about tricky installs or anything like that. This does use straightforward screw connections. And it's user friendly. It's got a push-button interface. So this is gonna be very simple to install and simple to get set up. Now be sure to check out the accessories that we recommend section of this product page for vehicle-specific mounting bracket options that we recommend on that page for this battery charger and the wiring that you're gonna need for installation as well. And that's gonna depend on where you intend to mount this charger in your vehicle. We do have a cross engine bay wiring kit, we have middle wiring kit, and then rear-install wiring kits all available here at etrailer.com. So again, make sure to check out the accessories. The accessories we recommend section on this product page. Taking another closeup here, let me grab my ruler, give you some measurements here. So the overall, what I'm calling height, is about 1 3/4 inches tall. The overall length, we are sitting right at about 6 1/2 inches. And then the overall width, if you wanna call it that, about 5 3/4 inches wide. It includes everything that you see here on my table. You will also get instructions, as you can see here. But I think that's gonna wrap up our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me.
Installing this Redarc bcdc charger ended up being a lot easier than we expected and has been a game changer for our boondocking game since we actually arrive at camp all charged up now! The instructions were simple to follow, and it was even smaller than we thought it would be, so we were able to find a spot for it in our system easily. I also really like that it has the jump-start feature! We haven't had to use it yet, but it adds peace of mind knowing that we have it if we need it. You can check out the video of us installing it on our youtube channel, Wild RV Life!
I really like the Redarc BCDC Alpha50. It’s slimmer than older BCDC models and the cooling fins are a great touch since this lives in the hot engine bay, keeps everything running efficiently. Redarc also did a nice job offering multiple mounting options and wiring kits, so you’re not left piecing together random parts. The color-coded wiring and app integration through RedVision are super helpful, and being able to recover your start battery from the auxiliary after 15 minutes is a real lifesaver if you’re out camping.
What I don’t love is the installation complexity. Space in modern vans and trucks is tight, and you’ll probably need to trim panels or come up with creative mounting solutions. The kit doesn’t include everything (like mounting screws for fuse holders), so you’ll want some extra electrical supplies handy. It also takes planning if you’re integrating it with other systems like RedVision or a second battery, definitely not a drop-in install. If you’re patient and comfortable tinkering, it’s a great product. If not, I’d recommend professional installation.
