Features to know about

Built for a Clean Look: Fixed-Arm Design with Hidden Reinforcements

This setup keeps things simple and tidy up front. The Blue Ox Base Plate Kit bolts right to the chassis with reinforcements tucked behind the structure, leaving only the attachment tabs visible when you’re not towing. There’s no bulky crossbar or extra hardware showing—just a clean, low-profile finish that blends in naturally with the bumper line.

Confidence on the Road: Durable Steel Construction That Distributes Towing Force

You want your flat-towing gear to hold steady mile after mile, and this base plate is built for it. The sturdy steel construction spreads towing forces evenly through the frame to help prevent stress on the suspension. It’s powder coated to resist rust and corrosion, so it stays solid and dependable through long hauls and rough weather.

Straightforward Setup: Bolt-On Install, No Welding Required

Getting it mounted is a clear-cut process that doesn’t call for welding or special tools. The kit bolts directly to the vehicle’s chassis using the included mounting hardware, giving you a secure fit right out of the box. The straightforward design makes it a good project for anyone comfortable turning wrenches over a weekend.

Ready to Connect: Works with Blue Ox, Roadmaster, and Demco Tow Bars

If you already have a favorite tow bar setup, this kit makes it easy to plug in. The sturdy lugs pair directly with Blue Ox tow bars for a solid, reliable connection. It also adapts for use with Roadmaster tow bars when paired with adapter RM-031 or RM-031-5 (sold separately), and with Demco tow bars using adapter DM9523041 (sold separately). With a bracket distance of 24" and bracket height of 14", you can plan your full tow setup around these precise dimensions.

Very simple to install, just need to drill a few holes in the frame. Comes with everything you need except a couple basic washers (mine came with 3 lock washers and 2 standard flats for 4 bolts)…

Would be nice to have the torque specs also in the instructions but the busted bolt is on me!

Perfect fit, well built of high quality materials. In my mind you just can't get much better than Blue Ox. The only issue is that the BX1120 doesn't have removable twist lock tabs. The fixed draw bar mounting tabs are at just the right height and position to play havoc with your shins when the draw bar is not installed. I solved that problem with a shin guard I made of 2 inch schedule 40 PVC. (see photo) Fits perfectly, guards the breakaway switch and lighting connector when not in use, and solves the shin interference problem.

Base plate is well built and fit well. As I would expect from Blue Ox products. My only complaint and the reason for 4 stars would be the horrible instruction. Pictures are absolutely horrible. Not a big deal for the mechanically inclined, but not everyone fits that category.

by:

Outstanding communication. Outstanding customer service. Outstanding towbars and baseplates. Will be back.

by:

Once again just great service from etra iler

by:

Easily installed but proper alignment needs to be maintained before drilling the additional hole required for through bolts.

by:

Not a bad install the nuts on the end of the wires was a little strange and odd to use and bend….. worked out great haven’t towed it yet ….bolted in and ready. There’s not really any place on thes 06 Wrangler to put those safety cables to the frame. Alex T in sales was great.

by:

The kit is well built and comes with all the necessary hardware to install. Installation was a breeze and asthetically blends in well with the front of the truck. Great job on the design and the production!

We really like our blue ox towbar mounts from etrailer. We're excited to be able to flat tow our 2001 F-250 with our ATV in the bed. Real game changer,, Thank You etrailer
A few pictures of how I attach it

4 it's in solid, but the [finish] that was used killed it from being a five.

The installation took about four hours. I had a tight interference fit between the frame rails. I wish I had an 18-24" linear ram, but I didn't. So two hydraulic floor jacks, with 4 - 24" welding clamps, and two 12" C-clamps, a short 2# sledge did the trick. Nothing a little spray paint can't fix. Four bolt holes lined up nicely. Two 1/2" drilled holes from the bottom were easy leverage to set up. Two 1/2" drilled holes inside to outside, were quite the challenge to get behind the drill. All fasteners now torqued to specification with red locktite. Added the 1/2" safety cables, made an adjustment in the lower airdam. And presto, here you have it. Now time to set up diode kit, and brake away switch installation.

Easy to install on our 1999 Toyota Tacoma. With a generous amount of BS and beer it took my Dad and I about an hour and a half. Probably a 30 minute job, if you were serious about it. Works perfect, easy to hook up, tows great!

by:

Bolted right on - no problem. I am appalled at the prices of tow equipment - and this was reasonably low compared to other options.

  • Do Magnetic Tow Lights Require Diodes With Stay-IN-Play Duo on 1999 Toyota Tacoma
Hi Dave; magnetic lights like # PE26UR still require the diodes when installing the Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo # DM86VR. I verified this with Demco.

  • Parts needed to Flat Tow a 2004 Toyota Tacoma Behind an RV and Does Skid Shield Get Removed
Looking at the instructions for the Blue Ox base plates for the 2004 Toyota Tacoma ( # BX3728 for 4-wheel drive models or 2-wheel drive Prerunner models and # BX3744 for 2-wheel drive, non-Prerunner models) the factory skid shield is not removed. I have linked the instructions for you to view. For a compatible tow bar I recommend the Alpha, # BX7380. It is rated for 6,500 pounds and it comes with safety cables. For lighting you could use the Roadmaster # RM-2120 kit, or for a more permanent...

  • Recommended Flat Towing Components For A 1997 Toyota 4Runner
The online owner's manual only lists emergency towing and requires that all four wheels are off the ground. Based on what you've stated about the vehicle it most likely would be able to be flat towed, but you should really double check with a local Toyota dealer to see if there's any other stipulations that could prevent you from towing. Toyota is usually a no-go when it comes to flat towing so it's definitely best to check with Toyota first to avoid any issues. If you can flat tow then...

  • Recommended Equipment for Flat Towing a 1996 Toyota 4Runner 4x4
As long as your 1996 Toyota 4Runner is the 5 speed manual 4 cylinder, then yes, you can flat tow it. You will need to check your owner's manual to make sure that you follow any specific instructions on flat towing as well. For base plates I recommend using the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, part # BX3728. These are my favorite option for base plates because it has a very clean look once it is installed. For a tow bar I recommend going with the Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar, part # BX7380. This bar...

  • Correct Base Plate Kit for Towing a 1995 Toyota Tacoma with a Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar RM-525
The # 1133-1 Roadmaster base plate kit you referenced is a fit for the 4WD models of the 1995 Toyota Tacoma but you would need an adapter to use it with a Roadmaster Falcon 2 5250 tow bar, our part # RM-525. To make things easier, get the Blue Ox base plate kit # BX3728, as this will connect directly to the tow bar without need for an adapter, and it is also a custom-fit for your vehicle. For a simple wiring solution, you could use a magnetic light kit such as part # RM-2120. The Roadmaster...

  • Can Front Mounted Hitch Be Used to Flat Tow 2004 Toyota Tacoma
A front mounted receiver hitch is not designed to be used as an attachment point when the vehicle is being flat towed. To flat tow your 2004 Tacoma, a tow bar base plate must be used. I'd recommend the Blue Ox # BX3728 base plates and the # BX7380 Alpha tow bar, which includes safety cables. For a lighting solution, I'd recommend the # RM-155 bulb and socket taillight wiring kit. The kit provides an extra set of bulbs that install in the rear taillight assemblies. This kit won't require...

Hey Daniel, welcome back! To flat tow your 1996 Toyota Tacoma with a Falcon 2 tow bar item # RM-520, I recommend the Blue Ox item # BX3728 along with the Roadmaster Tow Bar Adapter Brackets for Blue Ox Base Plates item # RM-031. The item # RM-031 adapters will bolt directly to the end of your Falcon 2 item # RM-520.
