Video Transcript for Redline Tires and Wheels 6-109 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the 5/8" by 18 90-Degree Cone Steel Acorn Trailer Wheel Lug Nut. This lug nut is designed to fit 5/8" diameter wheel studs. It uses right hand normal thread, and it's 18 threads per inch. This is made of a heat treated steel, which is very sturdy and durable. Now, this lug nut is a 90-degree cone, and it's designed to fit 90-degree cone of the lug hole on your wheel. Now, this design lug nut, the 5/8" by 18 90-degree cone is mainly use in a lot of your large truck applications like inaudible dually wheels.

The reason they're 90-degree cone, it's confuse in their different than your standard lug nuts that are 60-degree taper lug nuts. Here's an example of a 60-degree taper. Basically when you measure the taper on a lug nut, you're measuring both tapers as they meet. This would be 60 degrees, this one is called the 90 degree cone which gets a little confusing because when you think of 90-degrees, you're thinking of a right angel. That's actually what this is, because this taper right here is a 45, and this one on this side is a 45.

When they go together, they make a 90 degree cone. Basically when you're measuring the taper on a lug nut, it's from taper to taper, not from the taper to the center line of the lug nut itself. Now, this head size on this or outer diameter is 1 1/16" or 27 millimeters. Just to show you, we happened to have here a 27 millimeter deep well socket, and as you can see it fits perfectly on to the head of the nut. This is for quantity of one lug nut, and just to give you the length from the top to the bottom of this lug nut is going to be right at 11/16". That should do it for the review of the 5/8" by 18 90-Degree Cone Steel Acorn Trailer Wheel Lug Nut..

  • What is the Correct Lug Nut to Use with a Wheel Retaining Ring on Dual Wheel Axles
  • As long as your dual wheel has a flat surface where the Flange Wheel Nut # 95188 would rest against, like what the Dexstar Dual Wheel # AM20790 has, then you would use this flange wheel nut in the place of a nut with a 90 degree cone. Attached is a review video of the flange wheel nut for you to check out. In the video we pull a wheel out to demonstrate the flat surface area the nut would install on. If you are using a wheel retaining ring, like the part # 33-52-1, then you would still...

  • Disc Brake Availability for 10,000 lb Dexter Torsion Axles
  • The Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R1058D13 looks like it is exactly what you are needing. It is compatible with 10,000 lbs Dexter torsion axles, 17-1/2 inch wheels, and a hydraulic system. It does require a psi rating of 1,500 so as long as your EOH actuator can give that much output this is a viable option. To finish confirming that this kit will work great for your application you will just need to make sure that you have a 7 bolt brake mounting flange location and that your current...

  • Does Tab of Wheel Retaining Ring Item # 33-52-1 Face Inward or Outward on Wheel
  • The tab of the Wheel Retaining Ring # 33-52-1 faces out so that the taper of the ring matches the lug nuts like the part # 6-109. If you check out the review video I attached for this product you'll see how the lugs mate to the plate. It's purpose is for having something to grab onto like with pliars for removal or placement.

  • What Size Lug Nuts Are on a 2019 Continental Cargo Trailer
  • I would love to help but unfortunately the manufacturer does not provide us with this information. However, I do have a way for you to determine this on your own. What you will need to do is take a digital caliper like part # PTW80157 and then measure the diameter of your lug studs. You can then use one of the following based off of the diameter. The thread pitch will all be fairly standard. 7/16" Diameter - part # CE11050 1/2" Diameter - part # CE11051 9/16" Diameter - part # 6-53 5/8"...

  • Threads Per Inch of Lug Nut 6-109
  • Trailer Wheel Lug Nut - 5/8" # 6-109 is 18 threads per inch. It has a 1-1/16" outer diameter, is 90 degree coned and fits 5/8" wheel bolts. TPI is used for standard measurements while pitch is for metric, which is why there isn't a pitch, just a TPI.

  • When is Wheel Retainer Ring Needed for Dexter Hubs and Wheels
  • The wheel retainer ring that is included in certain hub assemblies like the Dexter # 8-430-5UC3 that you referenced will be installed on dual wheels when tapered coned lug nuts like # 6-109 are used instead of flange wheel nuts. It essentially allows you to use a lower torque spec for the nuts which would be required when using coned nuts.
