Why Would Trailer Lug Nuts be Difficult to Remove

Question:

Dual axle max bore is 12:09 inch. But the lugs seemed to be welded on I had to used a extended bar to break them loose and the turned a few times Eady but then I struggled the rest of the way having to wedge lots of things between the tire and ground to fight to get the lugs off. I tried one on a different tire and same thing. I think the are the wrong size. How do I find the right size? Thank you

Was it possible that someone used loc tite on the lug nuts and that's why they were so tight? Was there a red residue on them? The lugs will either 1/2 inch like the part # CE11051, 9/16 inch like part # STN569, or 5/8 inch like # 6-109.
