Replaces the head assembly from your stationary Demco fifth-wheel trailer hitch. A wraparound jaw provides a smooth ride and a locking bar offers added security.

The single-piece, strong wraparound jaw completely surrounds your trailer's king pin for 360 degrees of contact. This wraparound jaw provides a more secure connection than standard 2-piece jaws that close in on the king pin from the sides. The increased jaw-to-king-pin contact on the Recon hitch offers tighter tolerances around the king pin, which minimizes both rattle and chucking, for a smooth, quiet ride.
A 3/4" thick solid steel locking bar spans the area in front of the jaw. This bar provides an added barrier of protection against accidental disconnection so you can have peace of mind that your trailer is secure. The locking bar is attached to the jaw and to the spring-loaded handle. The bar automatically locks when the jaw closes around your king pin.
The double pivoting, cushioned head improves your towing experience dramatically by helping to reduce jarring and unwanted noise. Built-in pins allow the hitch head to pivot back and forth and side to side. And hookup is easy because the hitch head will automatically pivot to the proper angle when it comes into contact with your pin box.
Polyurethane dampeners help to cushion the movement from the pivoting head and to reduce towing noise. These dampeners are built into the head assembly to cushion the head's side-to-side pivoting.

I believe the order was all mixed up. I didn't order a replacement Head DM 6169. I ordered a DM 8550043 which I thought was a complete hitch system. But have been told it was ship in different boxes.

This is the replacement hitch head that was shipped out promptly following the loss of the original during shipment. Quick response in handling the problem was greatly appreciated.
I would've given 5 but I had a order for a used demco recon hitch. Was waiting for order called to find when it was coming. Found out they had been sold earlier. Nobody contacted me about the order cancelation or i still be waiting lol. But still ordered demco recon head got it delivered fast thank u for that.

The Recon is working great for me. Easy to install into the gooseball in the bed of my truck. I've pulled my 16,000 Lbs toy hauler about 2000 miles so far.
The only issue I have is when I pull the handle to uncouple, when I move the truck forward, the hitch mechanism almost always catches and holds the hitch to the pin. I can see the lever move and slightly pop back in as I attempt travel forward and this results in requiring 2 people to get uncoupled since I have to have someone physically pull on the handle lightly in order to get it to release. I've never had this issue with any other 5th wheel hitch. I still give it 5 stars because it does work great for my 2006 F350 application.
It seems like the handle just doesn't quite come out far enough when you disengage it. It's very close but not close enough but if someone pulls on it then it releases with no problem.

Delivered the replacement head fast and on time as promised. I had just purchased a new RV, and needed this part so that I could tow it home from General RV. The Demco fifth wheel head attached to the base of my Recon Hitch, and I towed br
that New Brinkley RV with no problems.

Easy to install worked great would definitely recommend it.
First trip is broken
Used head connects to base just fine. Pulled the blue cushion piece from old head and installed on new. Haven't tried towing yet as weather is not cooperating, but I don't anticipate any problems.
Purchased a scratched gooseneck to 5th wheel adapter to save a bit of money and why not, it's going to get used and scratched anyway. Parts arrived as described with instructions and was an easy install. I've used it just one time so far and pulled my Fifth wheel toy hauler about 60 miles with it. It performed way better than I was expecting. I've attached a few install pics to assist others in deciding if this is the adapter they might want.
Looks like a great hitch, just put tighter and it fits great.

Was very impressed w this hitch until I got home and unhooked and the latch arm popped out a little roll pin and came out so the spring launched the arm out not sure why in process of returning

John, I apologize for any confusion about how part # DM8550043 is shipped. It does indeed come in two boxes, one with the head part # dm6169 and part # dm6180 for the base.
